YTB

in re: user Copstead (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)
see also: Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard/Archive 31#YourTravelBiz.com and user Copstead

Hello, I see that you once again deleted all the changes I made for YTB. Please do not delete since this is the correct information about the company.

1) The company is YTB not YourTravelBiz. The offical name of the company is YTB International, Inc.

2) The information that has been added to the page is negative attack information that has been added by YTB's competitors.

How can we display correct information if it is always deleted. Please help me since I want to have the correct information up there.

Thank you,

Brent Copstead —Preceding unsigned comment added by Copstead (talkcontribs) 00:18, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I posted {{Uw-coi}} information on your talk page regarding the conflict of interest guidelines.
Did you read any of the linked explanatory pages? — Athaenara 00:24, 4 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Warning

Hello Copstead. I see that you have resumed editing YourTravelBiz.com and related articles without joining in any discussions. It is likely that you will be indefinitely blocked from editing Wikipedia if you are unwilling to engage. You have not replied to the complaint at WP:COIN. EdJohnston (talk) 15:23, 4 April 2009 (UTC)

Yes, I read all of the information. I am just trying to put correct information regarding YTB. The information that is located on yourtravelbiz page is created by people who want to attack YTB, and competitors. I just don't understand why you don't want correct information up there? Can you please explain? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Copstead (talkcontribs) 21:52, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What has happened to my categories and edit history?

in re: {{db-f8}}, images uploaded by Pdfpdf, moved to commons and tagged {{NowCommons}} by GerardusS

It seems that somebody has uploaded a lot of my pictures to commons, and you have deleted the originals.
Because you have deleted the originals, the edit history has gone, so I can't find out what happened.
Further, I can't find out what was on the original pages.
But the most annoying thing is that ALL the categories have been removed, so I no longer can find my pictures!! And if/when I do, I'm going to have to manually add all the categories back in.
This sucks.
Who decides that a picture should be moved/copied to commons?
Why can it be moved without me being notified?
How can it be "F8" without me being informed and given the opportunity to say "hangon"?
Why is the category information destroyed?
And none of it is your fault - you just happen to be the only person who has left any traceable evidence! You have to laugh, don't you. I'm looking forward to you waving your magic wand and solving all these issues. (I mean, all admins have magic wands, don't they?) Failing that, I'm looking forward to your reply. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:21, 5 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is why I format deletion summaries as I do: I don't want the original page creators to be left with no clue about what happened to their work and why. GFDL (that "irrevocably agree to release" stuff) applies here, but notification (and a magic wand ;-) would be cool. As far as I can see, the categories are visible in the upload summaries on the commons pages.
(Special:DeletedContributions/Pdfpdf is an additional record of upload summaries and other edits.)
I don't have answers to all of your questions, but Template talk:Db-meta and the administrators' noticeboard might be good places to raise the issues of procedure and consideration for uploaders who are not expecting deletion and are blindsided by the event. — Athaenara 01:40, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! All sorts of interesting & useful stuff!! (BTW: Clicking on Special:DeletedContributions/Pdfpdf results in "The action you have requested is limited to Administrators." for mere mortals like me.) Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 14:46, 6 April 2009 (UTC) (Gee, that's really bad news about the magic wand ... )[reply]
galleries
I think it's a good idea for uploaders to put an image {{gallery}} on their user page or a subpage (e.g. User:Pdfpdf/Gallery in this case). What do you think? — Athaenara 00:21, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As I did just that in December last year, I guess I must think it's a good idea! (User:Pdfpdf/Galleries)
(I also guess that it would be a good idea if I kept it up to date ... )
One thought: Stuff that is only licensed to appear on one specific page (e.g. images of album covers) could not also appear in the gallery.
Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:36, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
On the other hand, we have "special" commands like this one.
However, galleries do have the advantage that you can annotate the gallery entries. It looks like there are pros and cons all over the place, and that's just from two of the possiblilities. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 13:52, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of JUMP - The IAESTE Training and Motivation Seminar

What do I have to change on the text in order to keep the page? All the infos written on it was from me. People in IAESTE often ask me what is JUMP? So why not having a info page about JUMP? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aekeller (talkcontribs) 19:54, 10 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest says

Don't create new articles
Don't create any new articles (or recreate any deleted articles) on any subject related to your conflict of interest. Similarly, don't create articles that discuss a company or group you are affiliated with. If no article exists and you believe one should, you can make a request for someone else to post one at Wikipedia:Requested articles. You may make a draft in your userspace (e.g. a page like User:yourname/yourcompany to mention in your request.

I can only recommend the Conflict of interest/Noticeboard. — Athaenara 07:29, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input. Did I right at Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard#JUMP - The IAESTE Motivation and Training Seminar? None is answering me? Can you tell me what to change in order to get it right? I found the article Central European Convention. CEC and JUMP are pretty similar, so I wan't to have the same kind of information about both events related to IAESTE. So, how can I start it not to run into a COI? It is a fact that I have most of infos about JUMP, however it can be verified by thousands of people in IAESTE. Aekeller (talk) 11:21, 14 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Getting licked over at Stick Candy

in re: Talk:Stick candy#Please use "Discussion"; see also User talk:Athaenara/Archive 3#re:Stick Candy

Hi Ath. In the context of a possible RfA nom, it's come to my attention that I haven't always behaved in a way that's appropriate. Ironically, my heart was in the right place and frequently I was trying to stick up for an editor having a tough time, but I failed to take into account the effect my aggresive tone and manner had on the other editor involved. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to you for being brusque. You were clearly acting in good faith and there was no need to make my points in such an abrasive manner. I'll make sure to do better next time. I want Wikipedia to be fun and I feel awful that I treated you so shabbily. Sorry about that. ChildofMidnight (talk) 20:24, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ClearBooks

see also: deletion logs for Clear Books, ClearBooks, user page

Please can you explain why all the accounting wiki pages listed here Comparison of accounting software are permitted, but ClearBooks got deleted? I have used references. I have used a similar format to the accounting software listed in Comparison of accounting software. ClearBooks is a web based accounting software product. These types of online apps are a new growing market that are not represented on wikipedia. These are the fast growth companies that will be competing with the incumbent likes of Sage, QuickBooks and other desktop software packages. For those reasons I believe a) ClearBooks merits its own page on wikipedia b) Once listed it should be represented in the Comparison of accounting software TimFouracre (talk) 08:03, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Did you read any of the linked explanatory pages? — Athaenara 23:00, 15 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. References and impartial and that's what I attempted. I first tried creating Clear Books a while back and got feedback from the person that deleted that that I should try again with references in the future. I did this but put it on ClearBooks as that is the correct name.
My talk page that got deleted was me writing the article first on a test page.
Look at this for example ALERE Accounting which only has external links to itself and very little content. How is that permitted, but the article I wrote deleted?
It's just a bit annoying that the article is deleted with no record, and my time has been wasted. In your view what needs to be done to the original article to make it satisfactory?
Thanks

in re: this edit

Hi there. I noticed you tagged this article by using {{subst:db-g11}}. Please remember that db-tags usually should not be substituted, unlike prod-tags. Regards SoWhy 12:40, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If template substitution is inadvisable for a template there is normally a caution against it, but in this case it is mentioned neither on the template page (current version) nor on Template talk:Db-meta (current version). Should it be specified there? — Athaenara 23:22, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tenaya Capital page deletion

in re: deleted article

Dear Athaenara,

The Tenaya Capital wiki page was put up for speedy deletion yesterday. I made edits to the page deleting non-neutral adjectives (such as "leading venture capital firm") from the site as well as minimizing links to the Tenaya Capital website, except where appropriate (such as linking to a list of portfolio companies). People curious about the group have been searching Wikipedia for a Tenaya Capital entry. Please consider putting the article back up or giving me feedback on how to improve its format. I appreciate your help!

Cheers, R Champ08

Hi Athaenara,
I apologize again for the confusion Monday regarding the Onyx Pharmaceuticals company page. I have posted an updated draft of the article on my talk page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User talk:EGagnon7224. I expanded on the notability of the company and added additional 3rd party references.

As noted Monday, Onyx Pharmaceuticals is a publicly traded company on NASDAQ (ONXX) with an approved targeted therapy for liver cancer and advanced kidney cancer.

Please review for consideration on Wikipedia and advise on any additional steps necessary for posting this page.

Thanks,

E-Slate article

in re: deleted article

Why are you deleting E-Slate article for copyright infringement? I'm one of the E-Slate authors (George Birbilis - http://www.zoomicon.com) and I can't site our text from http://e-slate.cti.gr because some other guys at Edumedia wiki copied the text to their wiki first? (not that I mind them having copied our text there). E-Slate is free educational software used in Greek schools (and in other places in the worlds). Parts of it are opensource (e.g. E-Slate Logo)

Note that E-Slate is historical software (not being actively developed [mostly maintained] since its team has split or left [see www.talent.gr startup] many years ago) and I was at E-Slate team from 1997 to 2001 so I have lots of years detachment from it. The text does need some editing to also add shortcomings of the platform, but is pretty much accurate to what E-Slate offers in the educational and academic spaces. Saying original text can't be reused on Wikipedia even if its authors say it can, just because some others copied it somewhere else first sounds strange to me —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tziortzioti (talkcontribs) 15:11, 2 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why would I advertise free software that is already established in educational space since before 2000?
Not being part of the software team anymore (the project isn't actively updated, just maintained now), I don't feel I have conflict of interest —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tziortzioti (talkcontribs) 07:56, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't responded on your aledged copyright infringement claim (on which you based the deletion of the article)! Who says text on E-Slate site can't be used (authored by the E-Slate team which I was a part of) just cause someone copied it verbatim at the EduMediaWiki? This is absurd! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tziortzioti (talkcontribs) 08:00, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
