Accusation of personal attacks

You accused me of making personal attacks in the article I wrote, Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America. Please be advised that you are mistaken, I'm not sure why. I made no personal attacks. Everything I wrote came from news reports from reputable news sources, such as the ABC TV network and the largest newspaper in Boston. David spector (talk) 00:46, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your "Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America" deletion

Mr. Bearian, he called HIMSELF a financial terrorist. I was quoting him. Read the references. David spector (talk) 01:00, 6 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Mr. Bearian, you apparently only read one of the three references. Jenifer McKim's article in the Boston Globe starts as follows:

Bruce Marks, chief executive of the Jamaica Plain-based Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America and self-proclaimed “bank terrorist’’...

Mr. Bearian, that sounds like a quotation from Mr. Marks to me. That's what "self-proclaimed" means, coming from a reporter.

If you have any remaining doubt, Mr. Marks then says, "Bank terrorism is a nonviolent way we personalize the consequences of CEOs’ actions." (Remember, this is an interview. You don't use quotation marks in an interview article.)

Another quotation directly from Bruce Marks from the same interview:

You have to engage in bank terrorism. It gets their attention.

The ABC Nightline report on TV includes the following:

BRUCE MARKS (NEIGHBORHOOD ASSISTANCE CORPORATION OF AMERICA): We wear nonviolent bank terrorism as a badge of honor.

Mr. Bearian, I am waiting for your apology and restoration of the article and its talk page. And please be more careful in the future. David spector (talk) 00:04, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I can read, but I am not sure that you can. It is clear that "bank terrorism" and "financial terrorism" are not the same thing. Please take your complaint to deletion review. Bearian (talk) 00:10, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was surprised to see this article, not having thought of Fr. Ball since he was actually Canon Ball (yeah, we got a lotta yardage out of that as kids at summer camp).

I was more taken back though, by the characterization of St Peter's as "an urban parish in a downtown neighborhood, that entailed what was called slum work". There are no cites for this, and from my memory, St Peter's neighborhood was never a slum. It was downtown, but not near the slums in Albany. I was not a member of the parish, but of another Episcopal church in town. Since there are no citations for this comment, I will delete it, but will not take offense if you restore it if you have additional knowledge. Riverpa (talk) 16:54, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bitey?

I won't argue too strongly with "per DGG". Those bother me because they are effectively a vote against allowing exclusionist admins, but I cannot deny that I am an exclusionist. "Bitey" I will question. WP:BITE is an essay against being snappy to newcomers. If you can find cases of me being bitey, I'd appreciate having them pointed out. Most newcomers that I interact with seem to come away with a positive opinion of me, and I am frequently dealing with their requests for help. I'm pretty stern with User:Wiki-11233 and User:Petergriffin9901, but since I'm responsible for having gotten their indefinite blocks lifted and mentoring them during a probationary period, I think it's necessary to be firm with them. If you are referring to Meursault2004, I can accept criticism for having been harsh. As I documented in WP:Requests for adminship/Kww 3#Additional statement re Meursault2004, I came to the conclusion that his problematic edits were performed with the full knowledge that his edits were problematic and that the previous editor to perform them was indefinitely blocked as a result. Reasonable people can disagree with my conclusion, but his first edit here was Feb 4, 2004, and has accumulated 2,984 edits. He's a bureaucrat and administrator on other Wikiprojects. This is hardly a newbie, and that factored into my conclusion that his violation was performed knowingly, not innocently.—Kww(talk) 19:08, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • He's not trying to convince you, per se. He's just (as far as I can tell) looking for an example of the behavior you mentioned in your oppose. At the very least, if this RfA fails, it will allow him to gain some specific feedback. Protonk (talk) 21:28, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
FWIW, I have frequently voted for admin candidates whom i though exclusionist, though some of them have since changed their mind slightly on that question. And I'm exclusions myself about many local topics -- and , fort that matter, non-fiction books, and internet memes with BLP problems. For those last, I've often been in the !delete minority. Berian, I realize you understand this--I put it here for anyone dropping by. KWW, I hope that you will understand this too, next time around. DGG ( talk ) 23:43, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category question

Could you weigh in on this? The article was moved from being about the person to being about the murder and case. Intuitively I think the categories should stay for those looking for articles on these subjects but I may be misreading our standards. -- Banjeboi 15:32, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed Deletion of Ashford.com

This entry was vetted yesterday by another Admin the outcome of which was his satisfaction (please see my talk entries). I have re-read the guidelines and reviewed the copy again to ensure it is not promotional and am confused as to why it is still being proposed for deletion? If it is a matter of adding more historical links per Joe Chill [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], and [6]. I am happy to oblige, clearly the company has significance as it has been studied in books of logo design and several other business books. I just need a little more clarity, if you visit the links above you will see there is notability and the content is not written in a promotional manner.

Asfhord.com removal

Hi Bearian,

Thanks for the feedback, sorry to negatively affect your formatting. I have added some of the content cited by Joe Chill around accounting abnormalities and ensuing fines. I feel that given a 12 year history and Ashford's overall marketplace news / interactions over that time meet WP:NOTE and WP:NPOV requirements.

Did I forget to thank you? ..

Bearian ,Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed nearly unanimously with 174 in support, 2 in opposition and 1 neutral votes. Special thanks goes to RegentsPark, Samir and John Carter for their kind nomination and support. I am truly honored by the trust and confidence that the community has placed in me. I thank you for your kind inputs and I will be sincerely looking at the reasons that people opposed me so I can improve in those areas ( including my english ;) ). If you ever need anything please feel free to ask me and I would be happy to help you :). Have a great day ! -- Tinu Cherian - 06:02, 28 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recall

Your user page states you are open to recall. What is the procedure you use? Thanks! Hipocrite (talk) 14:49, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The process for recall is described at Wikipedia:Administrators open to recall/Sample process. I am generally ready for a recall, however, due to personal reasons right now (i.e., a fire in my apartment building on October 12, 2009), I am not ready to participate in another RfA. In past practice, recall can only be intiated by the admin. What prompted this inquiry? Do you have a particular concern that I may be able to address? Do you want me to initiate a recall for myself? Bearian (talk) 18:28, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. I probably should develop my own process. Bearian (talk) 18:28, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
See also Wikipedia:Administrators open to recall/Admin criteria and User:Bearian/Standards#WP:RFA standards. Bearian (talk) 18:32, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've did the A admins yesterday, and the B admins today. Just a survey to make sure all the i's are crossed and the t's dotted. I have no concerns (or knowledge, honestly) of you or your admin actions or whatever. Sorry about the fire. Keep rocking! Hipocrite (talk) 18:34, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
How disappointing. I was looking forward to some excitement! :) Sorry to hear about the fire Bearian. I hope all is well. ChildofMidnight (talk) 19:06, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Michele Weiner Davis

Hi I am a new editor at Wikipedia and my first project that I’ve taken on by accident it turned out to be is the contested deletion of the article Biography of Michele Weiner Davis that you had voted on back in September of last month. I had spoken to the editor Karanacs shortly after the article was recently deleted a second time because when I first contested the deletion when I came across her name in red letters in Wikipedia during my first week here as an user, another editor came along and just completed her Bio for me (See Graeme Bartlett (talk) remarks on my user talk page) but the article still failed to meet the standards for inclusion. I asked Karanacs if I could try and attempt to gather the needed references to try and make this right for inclusion and she said I could give it a go. Please take a look at the references I have put together for Michele W.D. to see if the article might be able to meet the inclusion standards now. I have omitted any personal information I have collected thus far until I see if this will be a go or not. Thank You for your time John Francis. Tinkermen (talk) 01:46, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Bearian. I have rewritten Al-Najah Secondary School. Would you revisit Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Al najah secondary school? You're invited!

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, review the recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan, plan for the next stages of projects like Wikipedia at the Library and Wikipedia Loves Landmarks, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, for example particular problems posed by Wikipedia articles about racist and anti-semitic people and movements (see the September meeting's minutes).

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.

You can add or remove your name from the New York City Meetups invite list at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC/Invite list.

To keep up-to-date on local events, you can also join our mailing list.

Rewrite FPAF page?

14:11, 3 November 2009 Bearian (talk | contribs) deleted "Foundation for the Preservation of the American Family (FPAF)" ‎ (A7: No indication that the article may meet guidelines for inclusion: G11: Unambiguousadvertising or promotion)

Hi Bearian, I got the notice for speedy deletion (above), and the page was deleted before I got a chance to explain. Just want to let you know beforehand that I will try to rewrite it with a neutral POV, so I hope you won't put a flag on that page. The purpose of creating the page for the foundation (non-profit) is just providing a general description what we do, and what kind of projects we are currently doing, so that people who (accidentally or intentionally) of trying to find out more about us in wikipedia can get the detailed information. It's not to advertise ourselves.
I'm aware we are lacking on the sources still, so that's why I'm going for the neutral POV. Any advice or suggestion would be greatly appreciated, as at least I am still new to being involved in wikipedia. Thanks! Freehelplist (talk) 07:34, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
