Rollback (add request)

I've been doing anti-vandalism for a while now, and I'm sure that I made 50 reverts, at the very least, using Twinkle. I'd like to have rollback rights so that I can use more efficient tools such as Huggle and Igloo. I read a lot about rollback, when to use it, when not to use it, its technical description, etc. and tested it on other wikis. —Waterfox (talk) 19:59, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
 Done - good use of tools using Twinkle. —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 20:05, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Reason for requesting rollback...I am an editor for WWE articles, and they have been constantly vandalized by random IP's. Being a Reviewer helps helps a lot with fighting vandalism, but being a Reviewer can only revert so much. The Rollback tool would make the job a lot easier. --Nascar king 05:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Your recent uses of undo are questionable and your talk page is littered with warnings about adding incorrect uncited content. Pedro :  Chat  08:02, 9 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Last time I applied, HJ Mitchell said I needed more experience. Now I have. And frankly, I'm tired of having other users beat me to Lupin's anti-vandal tool all the time. So I want to try out my hand at Huggle. Thanks. TEK (talke-mail) 23:49, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've been using rollback using twinkle, but I cannot use any other tools. I think this access to user right will help me in constructive edits and to fight against vandals instantly Ranjithsutari (talk) 17:05, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment I don't see many vandalism reverts since your last application, I only see about 2. However, I'm not a Sysop so I can't make a final decision. Frozen4322 : Chat 17:11, 15 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Reply I don't think this number of vandal issue will be same in future. --Ranjithsutari (talk) 14:59, 16 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Question: would this revert be an appropriate use of rollback? Why/why not? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:08, 21 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Reply: I support my revert, as it removed Lyrics and Translation. I think this lyrics is good enough, but there are many more amusing song-lyrics whose articles do not contain lyrics section(except few notable stanza). Providing an external link might be enough. However, on the other side, This section can be included, if one can show the notability of this lyrics/stanza 'OR' This section should be written rather like an essay than like a "Poetry".--Ranjithsutari (talk) 16:29, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was not questioning the revert, but I do question whether it was appropriate to undo it without leaving an edit summary as the edit was made in good faith. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 16:44, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I was using Lupin's Recent IP Changes tool, There isn't any option for providing edit summary. I agree with my mistake that I should have leave a message at user's talk page, for which I would be glad to do now.--Ranjithsutari (talk) 16:56, 22 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You shouldn't blame the tools as the responsibility for the edit is yours. If there is no option to provide an edit summary then either (a) you aren't using the tool properly or (b) the tool should not be used in this case. It is not necessary to leave a message on the user's talk page, but a decent explanatory edit summary is required. I'm sorry but I don't feel comfortable about giving you an extra tool at the moment because you seem to be struggling with the ones you already have. Would you mind carrying on as before, becoming more familiar with the tools you are using and providing appropriate edit summaries? I would be happy to consider a request in a couple of weeks. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:12, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
My intention is not to blame the tools, always I take full responsibility for my edits. Before using any tool, I prefer to know about its functions. Automatically there was a small edit summary, for which the editor had no complains. I did not expected it to be decent, but assumed as satisfactory. I don't mind to continue without rollback, Moreover it is my last request for rollback. Thank you for the feedback,--Ranjithsutari (talk) 15:39, 23 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have some experience with Twinkle, but I would like to be able to use the one-click rollback because I have a fairly slow internet connection and the Undo button process can take a while on my connection, and Twinkle runs VERY, VERYslowly on my computer. Thank you. Access Denied(t|c|g|d|s) 03:26, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Sorry, but you don;t have sufficient experience in my opinion. Keep up the reverting and warning and try again in a few weeks. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:48, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
User seems to have nearly 500 edits spread over 6 weeks. Is there any reason why you would not trust this user with this trivial tool? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:03, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have recently returned to Wikipedia, and I think that reverting vandalism would be easier with rollback. I'm happy to do some more vandalism reverting without rollback if you think that it is more appropriate to do that first. Thanks. DarthVader (talk) 11:37, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not done It's good to have you back and I love your username, but you only have around 20 edits since "unretiring" (if that's even a word!) If you use undo or Twinkle to make a few good reverts, warn the vandals and report them if need be, I'll happily reconsider. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 13:19, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: this user has made over 3000 edits and left in good standing. How do you justify refusing this trivial ability? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:11, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have 608 edits, never done anything bad. Have undone a few vandalisms, would hopefully be even more active with more POWER. Cheers.  ⊂Mr.choppers⊃  (talk) 03:01, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Not done Your edits all appear very good, but you don;t seem to have any real need for rollback at the minute since you only have a few vandalism reversions. You might like to try Twinkle if you need a faster method than the undo button and if you find you do have a need for it in the future, then by all means request it again. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 11:30, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Perhaps this decision could be reconsidered. This editor has been here since 2008 - I'm sure he can recognise vandalism by now! — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:36, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've been active on Wikipedia for some time with somewhere around 250 edits as of this posting. I also regularly help out by patrolling both new pages and recent changes. I've already been using Twinkle and would prefer a faster version of one of the features this tool offers. I can only create alternate accounts for legitimate reasons like avoiding my main account being compromised on public computer, for privacy, to prevent impersonation, to "restart" with a new account if I was in good standing at the time, or for a bot; not in edit wars, to create an illusion of support, ect. and I should disclose any and all alt accounts to the community, if possible.

I have been working to revert vandalism, particularly BLP issues, using Twinkle, and would like to work more efficiently. I would think as an established editor I don't have to justify the need for access to a convenient tool, but my particular need arose today when my bot messed up on this page (bad edit due to a rare & intermittent AWB or API bug) and the undo button went to such a large diff I was powerless to fix the error until a rollbacker did it for me.  Not done. You have little to no recent experience fighting real vandalism here on Wikipedia. If you want the rollback tool, show us that you need it! Go to Special:RecentChanges and make 50 or so vandalism reverts, either with the undo function, or the userscript, Twinkle. One you have done that, come back and request the tool again. -FASTILY (TALK) 18:22, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I've been on Wikipedia for several years and I've edited a lot of vandalism already. In fact I had Rollback privs once before and I'd like it back. It was taken from me during an editing conflict I was involved in back in Nov 2009 because I left what was considered "scathing comments" about a user I was arguing with. I didn't even use the Rollback feature during the incident but an admin saw fit to take it from me as part of a "cool down" process. I never asked for it back until now. Cyberia23 (talk) 18:49, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, I see. In that case, I'll ask for the opinion of the administrator who revoked your rollback privileges (Toddst1). -FASTILY (TALK) 00:46, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it wasn't actually a cool down thing - rather an content dispute/edit war that required another admin to protect the page, and Cyberia was blocked after a discussion on ANI. That being said, I'd support restoring rollback with a strong commitment to avoid edit wars and solve content disputes constructively. Toddst1 (talk) 01:10, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Since the individual the whole incident started over has "retired" from Wikipedia (her account has been deleted per WP:VANISH) and is no longer a participant editor, I consider it all in the past and time to move on. Cyberia23 (talk) 05:14, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but we're talking about the future. Toddst1 (talk) 15:42, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I understand that Todd. And I do avoid content disputes. I think my record clearly shows that. And to explain it all, yet again, that incident was a special case – a situation where the opposing party took things from a simple content dispute to something way more serious, especially when false accusations that I made "death threats" started to appear. Now I'm simply pointing out that the user has finally left Wikipedia, which means hopefully, I'll never have to deal with someone like that again. And that incident, as ugly as it was, I've put behind me, (or at least trying to) but Yes Todd, I've learned from it, if that's what you're looking for me to say. Cyberia23 (talk) 17:56, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Content disputes are inevitable, its how you will handle them is what he's looking for. That user may have left Wikipedia but I assure you there are others like them, and you need to be able to deal with it appropriately. That said, I'm satisfied that you're committed to not edit-war, if Toddst1 is. Jujutacular talk 18:15, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I am not the one who likes reverts articles as much as editing itself. But very once in a while I need to do so while checking my watchlist. There's a few articles that could possibly be never undone without me. For example the articles Archenemy has been watched by just me and and an administrator named User:H3llkn0wz who had rollbacks but unfortunately he's hardly online now. We try to limit it to just sources so it won't violate WP:OR. This was after a AFD of List of fictional archenemies and then we merged a few of the sourced lists down there. And of course I have undone other articles too. I am constantly on my watchlist keeping gaurd of any vandalism on them.Jhenderson777 (talk) 17:36, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I used to do it constantly but not anymore because I don't care about it as much as I did and I am more interested in editing. I still do it if I notice any vandalism. But to tell you the truth I didn't know about Special:RecentChanges, thanks for telling me about it. I have always just watched my watchlist which has a lot of articles on it and I just know I needed it on few occasions. Jhenderson777 (talk) 18:39, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I had it for a long time before I was ever an admin, but when I lost admin status, rollback was removed along with it. In the 2 years since, I've occasionally could have used it.
