Liz Davenport Deletion

Hi Athaenara you took down the page I've been editing for breach of copyright Liz Davenport. I was still editing the page heavily with the help of another admin Grim. I've read the notice and have copyright license to use the information. I'm sorry I'm pretty new to this. What do you suggest I do to get the page onto the site? Should I launch it in a sandbox or is there come other way. Lizdavenport777 (talk) 07:16, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I checked the message again and you said it was advertising and didn't make much sense. I'm keen to rewrite the page and return it.

Should I just make it one parragraph, what do you think?

I've restored this page you just deleted - I was declining the speedy as you deleted it. I think it just needs moving to a proper title (Tarkhan Mughals) and wikification and can't see how it could qualify as a test page. Hope you don't mind. SmartSE (talk) 17:40, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

OK, no problem. My impression was that it had been tagged db-test because it looked like an unwikified partial copy of some other existing article. – Athaenara 17:45, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) As the one who tagged it, that's exactly why I tagged it. I'm still not 100% sure it wasn't copied from somewhere, but it's an interesting subject; definitely needs some work, though. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 19:38, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
<slow response> I thought the same at first too, put it was apparent from a very quick google that it was a noob writing new content. I don't want to (or hopefully need to) lecture but it would be good if you could double check in the future to make sure you're not tagging/deleting hours of a noob's hard work. Thanks SmartSE (talk) 19:40, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way you can undelete this page? "00:00, 28 April 2011 Athaenara (talk | contribs) deleted "Libyan civil war (February 2011)" ‎ (G8: Page dependent on a deleted or nonexistent page)" There seems to be a consensus at Talk:Timeline of the 2011 Libyan civil war to split up the article by month. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 22:44, 21 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

February 2011 in the Libyan Civil War, the page to which it redirected, was deleted by another admin (log) per WP:CSD#G5. I don't get involved in disputes about whether or not such pages should be resurrected, so I recommend Requests for undeletion. – Athaenara 00:57, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Ourinternet page

in re: Ourinternet (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
see also: User talk:Sphilbrick#Ourinternet and User:Bdgls/Ourinternet

Hello,

I'm wondering why my newly created page devoted to Our Internet has been deleted? This page contains the information about a web hosting provider Our Internet and their services. I thought this is good addition to a Web hosting section. At least when I was trying to find a reliable web hosting provider using Wikipedia earlier, there were not too many of them. And all of the pages there contained very similar information.

Thanks,

Bdgls (talk) 15:31, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Restored per your complaint (it's still subject to deletion). – Athaenara 17:29, 22 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I see you deleted Ourinternet as a G11, then restored it. I deleted it as a G11 as well. An IP contacted me, (presumably Bdgls_, asking for it to me restored, citing your decision to restore it. I'm going to give it a second look - I recall it being rather spammy, but maybe salvageable. I'm inclined to userfy, and add some feedback, but I'm informing you in case you would like to weigh in.--SPhilbrickT 12:05, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I userfied and provided some feedback; not asking you to do anything, but as you were involved originally, wanted to keep you informed. --SPhilbrickT 12:57, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I undeleted it because I saw it as an opportunity for the new user Bdgls to see an additional result. As I expected, it was deleted again because it's basic "this is what we have and this is what we do" spam, not an encyclopedia article, and has no independent WP:RS indicating any notability. – Athaenara 17:52, 23 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Biogamer Girl deletion

in re: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/BioGamer Girl

I had earlier declined a G7 on the article, as a few other editors had edited the article - also, the AfD tag on an article explicitly says that the article should not be blanked during the AfD. This is a procedural thing - I would have been surprised if the consensus had changed significantly during the rest of the discussion resulting in a keep!

Regards, -- PhantomSteve.alt/talk\[alternative account of Phantomsteve] 05:31, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Amandadyar and XXmAsTeRsHaKe were the two authors of the "substantial content" per the WP:CSD#G7 criterion, and both of them explicitly requested deletion by adding the {{db-g7}} tag to the page. The purpose of AfD is not to flog or slow-roast coi spas for a week for having tried to use Wikipedia to promote their product. Their tagging, after some discussion, indicated to me that they both understood our policies and guidelines sufficiently well for their requests to be accepted in good faith.
Compare to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ozone layer formation, where the author nominated the article for AfD but other editors suggested that some of the content should be merged into another article. Summary deletion per db-g7 short-circuited a potentially productive discussion and the utility of the page name as a redirect. – Athaenara 16:56, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, I had just noticed that the requests had occurred during the AfD - personally, I ignore these unless they are for copyvios or attack pages, but this is a fair application of IAR, thanks for your explanation -- PhantomSteve.alt/talk\[alternative account of Phantomsteve] 17:48, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome. – Athaenara 17:50, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vicci Laine

in re: Vicci Laine (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

I noticed that you deleted the page for Vicci Laine. I was a contributor to this page and would like to know what the reasons were and ask that it be reinstated. She is a great influence on the GLBT community and has worked very hard for that community.

Thank you for your time and consideration

That article was tagged for {{proposed deletion}} 16:24, 12 May 2011 (UTC) by Harley Hudson (talk · contribs), whose concern was: There do not appear to be any independent reliable sources indicating that this person is notable per relevant guidelines. Per the proposed deletion process, seven days passed during which time the WP:RS and WP:N issues could have been addressed but were not, so it was deleted a week later. You are free to post on Requests for undeletion if you wish. – Athaenara 21:22, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is this MapR advertising?

in re: MapR (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
see also: User:Markkitenga/MapR (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)

I see a lot of sites like this - they seem to be a subtle form of advertising. What is your opinion? --Greenmaven (talk) 10:50, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It certainly does seem to be intended to promote the company. Pages like this are usually created by spas (as in this case) with no other interest in Wikipedia, which suggests a coi. I posted a {{uw-coi}} on User talk:Markkitenga and added a few tags to the article. It could be tagged {{db-g11}} for deletion as spam or nominated for AFD. – Athaenara 21:22, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bruce Berman (Brody Berman Associates)

Hi Athaenara, You have recently delete the Bruce Berman article. I have a basic understanding of the reasons, but I was wondering if you can give me some advice on how to re-create the article prevent it from being labeled as "unambiguous advertising." Bruce Berman has written many books and contributed greatly to the press and I would really like to see his actions recognized. Thank you for your time! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bbaassistant (talkcontribs) 17:37, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I'm from kickboxing and martial arts project, none of our members were notified of this deletion. I'm assuming you are Admin, whats the procedure to get this article back because it was well within the scope of our project and I strongly believe it was sourced. Thank you.Marty Rockatansky (talk) 03:19, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It had no cited sources (merely four external links which would never be considered independent WP:RS: www.wfca.info, www.fightclub.lv, www.wfca-germany.de, www.wfca-czech.cz) and had been tagged for lack of notability and needing references since January 2011. You are free to post on Requests for undeletion in spite of that if you are so inclined. – Athaenara 06:30, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Vanguard Cleaning Systems

in re: Vanguard Cleaning Systems (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Hello, Athaenara. You deleted a page that was created in 2009 and I'd like to rewrite/repost a more objective version. The page was entitled Vanguard Cleaning Systems. Can you help? Heistenmark (talk) 04:26, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's highly unlikely that you, a VP of the company (or any of your employees), would approach the subject with neutral objectivity per the Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) guideline. As I've spent thousands of hours cleaning up after spammers, I have precisely zero interest in assisting efforts to promote anything on Wikipedia (see the Wikipedia:Spam guideline). I posted a {{uw-coi}} on your talk page to cast a little light on your position here. – Athaenara 07:20, 29 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, Emjay, if you wouldn't mind. I don't think that an article about an artist who was nominated for a couple of Juno Awards is an uncontroversial deletion. Thanks. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 02:57, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I support the WP:PROD concerns, so I won't be undeleting them myself. Requests for undeletion is the place to go for that. – Athaenara 07:12, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted files available on Commons

in re:

Hi my watchlist shows you have deleted Falls sketches 12, 14, 15, 16 as they are available on Commons - but I don't understand whats going on.

I don't understand the Commons section - I don't know how I get there when I stumble in nor how to get out. So my level of expertise in this regard is extremely infintesimal not to say, miniscule.

Magog the Ogre has done a similar process to a number of other files I've uploaded. But as there are more files from similar sources which I would like to upload in the future and Magog sounds a bit of an ... ogre, and you sound nice, I'm appealing to you - can you help? :) --Rskp (talk) 07:13, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:Moving files to the Commons explains some of it, but like many such pages it's not the friendliest or clearest of documents.
For these particular files, there's a detail which makes them very easy to reach: if you click on one of them as linked above, you'll find that the [edit] function for the 'Original upload log' section goes to the Commons file, and from there you can click on the history, edit the file, whatever.
My very best advice on this is to upload your images to Commons directly, thereby bypassing the whole evaluation and transfer and deletion thing entirely. I don't know how much I can help with other questions you may have, as I've only ever uploaded one image (File:LombergA1024.jpg), and that was to Commons in January 2008. – Athaenara 07:33, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks - I'll keep an eye out for the commons option and next time I see it I'll take it. :)--Rskp (talk) 04:39, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am concerned at the contributions of this person - rapid changes to many articles --Greenmaven (talk) 10:23, 30 June 2011 (UTC) I have checked a few - maybe my concern is unjustified --Greenmaven (talk) 10:29, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bvrino seems to add {{France topics}} to appropriate pages. – Athaenara 01:53, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of World Rally Radio for deletion
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article World Rally Radio is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/World Rally Radio until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article.

Australian football category talk deletions

in re: category talk pages in 06:10, 01 July 2011 (UTC) update of Database reports/Orphaned talk pages

You might want to check your deletions of the Category Talks for the Australia football ones. I think Unreal7 did a lot of moves of the Category talks before the Categories got moved. For example, Category talk:Football (soccer) in Australia articles by quality was moved to Category talk:Association football in Australia articles by quality. However, Category:Football (soccer) in Australia articles by quality is still there.

Unless I'm totally confused. There does seem to be some mass renaming going on, but I think a few of the moves were done early. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:23, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I decided not to risk becoming confused myself and (citing your message here!) restored every category talk page which I'd deleted. – Athaenara 07:44, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'm all confused. I'll look things over and see what should be deleted and what should be moved back. Working on it... -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:55, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I had to turn away from it after reversing my nine because, having tended to approximately 150 orphans in the previous hour and a half, I didn't want to go shopping for beensy little wheelchairs for my eyes. – Athaenara 08:02, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I think I've got it all worked out. These categories were never renamed, so I moved back to where they belong:
These were properly moved when the category got renamed:
I know what you mean about having to step away. My eyes are all messed up right now, so I'm going to step away, too. However, because I'm nuts and probably a little OCD, I finished off the orphan report so everything is clear now. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:22, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Athaenara! I was actually trying to chop the promotional material out of the article, but looks like I was unsuccessful. I've saved the version that was still as User:Shirt58/Fatima College of Camiguin - hope that's OK with you. I'll have a fiddle around with it to see what I can do. --Shirt58 (talk) 09:12, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hottest 100 Australian Albums Of All Time

in re: Hottest 100 Australian Albums Of All Time (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) (AfD)
see also: User:Tyler j1992/Sandbox and ANI discussion

This article was only half completed, and was tagged for AfD. The author, Tyler j1992, asked me what to do. I suggested that he develop it his own user space and in the mean time, to avoid deletion by AfD and so avoid WP:CSD#G4 when it was finished, to tag it for {{db-author}}. Well, the user did just that. The AfD was closed, and the user started work in his user space. To my horror, another user Ck786 has just created the same half-empty article (with two columns swapped), under a slightly modified title.

Can you look at Triple J Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time, 2011, please? It's not worthy or an article because half of the list is half empty. If there's nothing we can do, then can we re-open the AfD; it only had four days to run. I feel terrible, and this sets a very bad example for Tyler j1992: play by the rules, and get beaten to the draw. Fly by Night (talk) 06:54, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I should single-handedly tackle something like this (highway robbery and deception?) so please post it on WP:ANI where lots of admins will see it, OK? – Athaenara 07:03, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure that an AN/I is the place for this. If I mention it, they'll just say that no-one owns articles and it doesn't matter who creates them, as long as they get created. My experience of AN/I is that quite a lot of the admins don't actually want to deal with anything. It's usually: "What do you want us to do?" or "You're in the wrong place." It usually has to be very serious before it's even read. Besides that, I opened an AN/I yesterday. If I go back again today then I'll look like a moaning old git. What about re-opening the AfD? Fly by Night (talk) 07:13, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see you acting like a moaning old git or being credibly accused of it. My view is that the issue needs more admins assessing it. – Athaenara 07:22, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've done as you suggested. Fly by Night (talk) 07:47, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

World Series Boxing Deletion

Dear Athaenara,

I am currently working for the organization World Series Boxing who's page you proposed for deletion. We had our webmaster update the page with content off our website. May I ask the reason for the proposed deletion so that we don't repeat this mistake. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rishi2hotty (talkcontribs) 15:41, 5 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't propose it for deletion. Jakejr (talk · contribs) tagged it for {{proposed deletion}} at 14:34, 21 June 2011 (UTC) with the edit summary 'lacks both notability and reliable sources' and the concern 'article lacks supported claims of notability.' Dear Athaenara,

I saw that you deleted an article which I proposed for speedy deletion. User: Mark Marxer page deletion

Hello,

I was not able to post a response to the debate regarding the deletion of my page prior to you deleting it. The page was not a fake article, as "frankie" claimed, I requested the username be renamed as I simply didn't understand why "user" was included in the username.

Furthermore, in response to the argument: "WP:FAKEARTICLE. The subject doesn't appear to be notable. I love the sentence "A native of the U.S. state of California (he grew up in Eugene Oregon),..." ~~ Hi878 (Come shout at me!) 20:23, 2 July 2011 (UTC" This was simply a typo that has been fixed.

This page was simply an autobiographical piece and if you could give me any helpful suggestions as to how I can re-post without conflict I would appreciate it. Thank you! Mark Marxer 17:59, 6 July 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Markmarxer (talkcontribs)

I don't know whether you've read WP:NOTRESUME or what part of the Wikipedia:Spam guideline you don't understand. I didn't delete it as a fake userpage, I deleted it per WP:CSD#G11 as spam. The lack of a phone number or a website link hardly made it any less unambiguous promotion. You are what is known in Wikipedia parlance as a coi spa: a single-purpose accound with a conflict of interest. You may get some good advice on the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest/Noticeboard, and you may appeal to Wikipedia:Deletion review. – Athaenara 22:34, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Images with multiple versions

Regarding File:Hbpl.jpg, did you notice that I declined deletion before because it doesn't fit F8, because it has older versions that are not on commons? Magog the Ogre (talk) 04:06, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As the older versions were replaced by the sole author/uploader here who uploaded the final version to Commons, it seemed appropriate to let the local file go. – Athaenara 04:14, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if I could be so presumptuous, I might say that I think that is a bad idea. First, it's actually against CSD policy, for the very good reason that we lose a perfectly good file version. This can be remedied via a split, or FFD. Secondly, I did decline the speedy deletion, and I prefer to think it's best if admins honor each other's adminly decisions, though I suppose it's not strictly necessary as I didn't perform any admin actions.

On a similar note, I hope to soon be putting up content on the toolserver which allows for old versions to easily be transferred to commons over the same file name; this wouldn't have been a good case though because it should have been two different files. Regardless, if you see any files with more than one version in the history that should be transferred according to F8, feel free to just leave it up for a few days, as I've privately been using the tool on my machine for many months now. In fact, the three earlier versions were quite inferior to the final version. All four were by the same user. In cases like this where the other versions really are not usable, I prefer to honor the clear intention of the uploader. – Athaenara 01:00, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No, I deleted it as spam per WP:CSD#G11. You need to read the {{uw-coi}} on your talk page. – Athaenara 07:24, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
