Enable gadget

Hi Kaldari, would you be so kind to enable a gadget here? See this topic. Thank you, Multichill (talk) 11:34, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ryan, did you have time to have a look at this? Multichill (talk) 20:04, 20 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry it took me so long to get around to this. See Wikipedia:Gadget/proposals#Direct imagelinks to Commons. Kaldari (talk) 18:46, 21 October 2012 (UTC
Ryan, please, no talk page hopping, I'm running low on bunnies.
Thanks for placing that there, it never ceases to amaze me how bureaucratic this Wikipedia is ;-) Multichill (talk) 20:22, 21 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Open for quite some time, only a few positive responses. Could you enable the gadget? Multichill (talk) 11:54, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Why I'm Not An Administrator

Thank you for your recent question on my UserTalk page. The only reason I am not currently a Wikipedia administrator is because nobody else has nominated or approved me for administratorship, but I am still willing to accept such an opportunity. --TommyBoy (talk) 08:11, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Takes Naga

Hello. Bikol Wikipedia is planning to hold Wikipedia Takes Naga this coming November 24, 2012. We will be using this http://toolserver.org/~contests/startahunt.php Thanks. --Filipinayzd (talk) 09:16, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Would you mind looking at something?

Hi Ryan, would you mind looking at Talk:Derek McCulloch? Several editors are reporting that it's taking a long time to save edits, and to load the page after saving -- 40 seconds plus (for me). It's becoming a bit of a nuisance because a few of us are trying to discuss a contentious edit. Can you see anything on the page that might be causing it? Thanks very much. SlimVirgin (talk) 23:33, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for figuring it out. It was driving us all slightly crazy. :) SlimVirgin (talk) 00:04, 31 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2012 October newsletter

The 2012 WikiCup has come to a close; congratulations to Wales Cwmhiraeth (submissions), our 2012 champion! Cwmhiraeth joins our exclusive club of previous winners: Dreamafter (2007), jj137 (2008), Durova (2009), Sturmvogel 66 (2010) and Hurricanehink (2011). Our final standings were as follows:

  2. Canada Sasata (submissions)
  3. Conradh na Gaeilge Grapple X (submissions)
  4. Scotland Casliber (submissions)
  5. New York City Muboshgu (submissions)
  6. Wisconsin Miyagawa (submissions)
  7. Minnesota Ruby2010 (submissions)
  8. Michigan Dana Boomer (submissions)

Prizes for first, second, third and fourth will be awarded, as will prizes for all those who reached the final eight. Every participant who scored in the competition will receive a ribbon of participation. In addition to the prizes based on placement, the following special prizes will be awarded based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, the prize is awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round.

Awards will be handed out in the coming days; please bear with us! This year's competition also saw fantastic contributions in all rounds, from newer Wikipedians contributing their first good or featured articles, right up to highly experienced Wikipedians chasing high scores and contributing to topics outside of their usual comfort zones. It would be impossible to name all of the participants who have achieved things to be proud of, but well done to all of you, and thanks! Wikipedia has certainly benefited from the work of this year's WikiCup participants.

Next year's WikiCup will begin in January. Currently, discussions and polls are open, and all contributions are welcome. You can also sign up for next year's competition. There will be no further newsletters this year, although brief notes may be sent out in December to remind everyone about the upcoming competition. It's been a pleasure to work with you all, and we hope to see you all in January! J Milburn (talkemail) and The ed17 (talkemail) 00:30, 1 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Administrator Nomination

Thank you for nominating me for administrator. What if anything do I need to do in order to formally accept it? --TommyBoy (talk) 09:41, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just write a brief acceptance statement below my nomination and answer the questions at Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship/TommyBoy. Once that is done, let me know and I'll post it for comments. Kaldari (talk) 09:43, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Done. --TommyBoy (talk) 12:48, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your additional advice regarding my administrator nomination. Per your suggestion, I have updated the e-mail setting on my User Account. Incidentally enough, I had a previous discussion with another user regarding user e-mail back in May, 2011, but was unable to update my settings at the time. With regard to your other suggestion regarding I plan to do if granted administratorship, do you think I should amend my previous answer? --TommyBoy (talk) 20:51, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
If you feel like there are other ways you could use the admin tools, yes. If not, your existing answer is fine. I only mention it since Risker is of the opinion that the main reason there are so few admin promotions these days is because we don't really need more admins for vandal fighting, but that's just one opinion :) Kaldari (talk) 21:10, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Per your suggestion, I have amended my answer on what I plan to do if granted administratorship. --TommyBoy (talk) 23:01, 11 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

TommyBoy at RFA

Care to mention some of the other usernames appearing in the queries that produced TommyBoy's name? More RFA nominations would be greatly appreciated :-) Nyttend (talk) 22:39, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I didn't save the list, but should be fairly easy to regenerate. Let's see how this one goes first :) Kaldari (talk) 22:53, 12 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have unblocked this editor, in part because you have expressed a willingness to help by mentoring them. I've told them they need to come here for instructions, and that before they do anything that might be questionable (like add external links), they should ask you or myself first. Thanks for your willingness here, and hopefully we can move forward with this editor, in a productive way. Dennis Brown - © Join WER 18:39, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kaldari, Thanks for believing in me and giving the opportunity to redeem myself. At this point, I think I’ll just spend a couple of days going over Wiki rule and stay away from editing (with the exception of you talk page). I’m probably to traumatized to read a page for fear of doing something wrong. Dennis recommended a few pages and I’ll start with those. Thanks again. I know promises are pretty common in cyberspace—but I won’t let you down. Carlang (talk) 21:35, 15 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • I will try to talk page stalk a bit as well, and offer tips when I think they will help. Don't be intimidated, my interest is in genuinely trying to help you pointed in the right direction so you don't have to feel concerned anymore. I prefer being the good guy, and I just use the tools when I am forced to. I'm not quick on the trigger, friend. Stuff happens, the key is taking good advice and moving in the right direction. Editing can be a lot of fun, I've done it for years here. I often start editing, and end up following links to different stuff, wandering all around, find myself fixing spelling or minor things, and half the day has gone by without working on what I started out to work on, yet I got some stuff done that helped. Old military aircraft is one of those weaknesses that can get me reading for hours. Editing is supposed to be fun, otherwise I would have a different hobby. Hi Kaldari,
I was considering making an edit of Wedding Band page. Its a new TV show that aired last week and the page is currently underdeveloped (compared to something else like the Awake (TV show) page. What would you advise?
I was going to use the Awake page and other Tv pages as a guide on construct and tone. Is this a good approach? Or would you recommend that I try working on something else?
One last thing, would working on a page involving the city you're resident in be against the COI? For instance, if I lived in New York, would it be wrong for me to work on the New York page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Carlang (talkcontribs) 06:24, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Working on Wedding Band sounds like a good idea. For style advice, take a look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Television and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Writing about fiction. Regarding New York, it would only be a conflict of interest if you are promoting something you are personally associated with, such as a company or organization. I'd also recommend not adding any external links until you've read through Wikipedia:External links, as this is frequently looked upon as spamming unless the guidelines are carefully followed. Latency in Arabic Wikipedia

Hello Kaldari. The COINS metadata has been removed from Template:Citation/core as you advised, but nonetheless pages such as the Yemen article are still uneditable. Note that most of these pages can be edited if user isn't logged in. --Zack (talk) 12:58, 17 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thing you can take a look at something

Hi Kaldari. Do you think you can provide some third opinion about this: Talk:Kendra_Scott#Removal_of_lawsuit_-_please_share_your_opinions.. I'd appreciate it. Thank you! (And congrats on 43k edits!) SarahStierch (talk) 18:31, 18 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you would like my opinion on this one :) Kaldari (talk) 06:41, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You!

Thank you again for nominating me for administrator. I have received confirmation that my nomination was approved. --TommyBoy (talk) 01:16, 19 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Thoma (scholar), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Habiba (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Reftoobar

Hi, Kaldari. The history of the MediaWiki:RefToolbar.js lists you as an active contributer. Do you still maintain interest in that project? There are a few minor issues that could use attention. I have have some simple ideas for improvement. I have listed them on the code's talk page if you are interested to read them. I have more that I have not written about too.
