The Atlanta Lesbian Feminist Alliance (ALFA) was founded in 1972 by a group of feminist radical lesbians and disbanded in 1994. ALFA is one of the oldest lesbian feminist organizations in the United States. It was established as an alternative to the Atlanta’s Women’s Liberation Center and the Gay Liberation movement as some felt that neither had adequately addressed issues of concern to lesbians specifically. ALFA self-produced monthly newsletter, the Atalanta. The organization also built and maintained the Southern Feminist Library and Archives (SFLA), which included archival records of ALFA and other southern feminist groups plus feminist, lesbian and activist periodicals. They also had a circulating library of feminist, gay and lesbian books. The material is now held at the David M. Rubenstein Rare Books & Manuscript Library as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture.
