ABS-CBN TV Plus (formerly SKY TV+ or simply TV+), stylized as ABS-CBN TVplus, is the official digital television service of ABS-CBN Corporation which launched on February 11, 2015. It consists of a television tuner that uses the Japanese ISDB-T standard to detect digital terrestrial (free TV) signals.

==Histori == ABS-CBN Corporation initially applied for a license from the National Telecommunications Commission in 1998 to operate a digital terrestrial television service in the country back in 2007.[1] ABS-CBN planned to utilize multiplex to offer ABS-CBN, ABS-CBN Sports+Action and 5 additional specialty TV channels. The conglomerate is expecting to spend around 1 billion pesos annually for the next 5 years for their DTT transition.[2] ABS-CBN utilized UHF channel 51 Manila (695.143 MHz), later UHF Channel 43(647.143 MHz), for test broadcasts in the DVB-T format. ABS-CBN was expected to begin digital test broadcasts in January 2009.[1][3]

On June 2010, the NTC announced that it would formally adopt the Japanese standard ISDB-T for digital broadcasting and issued a circular for commanding the entire country's television networks to switch-off their analog services on 31 December 2015 at 11:59 p.m. Philippine Standard Time (UTC+8).[4] But due to a delay by the release of the implementing rules and regulations for digital television broadcast, the target date was moved to 2020.[5]

On April 2011, the conglomerate announced further details about its DTT plans, which offered ABS-CBN and Studio 23 (currently ABS-CBN Sports+Action).Five new channels will be exclusively available to its digital users which will be offered once the digital broadcast starts. The specialty TV channel line-up includes one news channel, two youth-oriented channels, educational channel, and movie channel. The conglomerate is planning to utilize the 1seg (one segment) broadcast standard for handheld devices.[6][7][8][9]

The digital television service, known as TV+, was previewed on ABS-CBN's morning show Umagang Kay Ganda on March 22, 2012 where they offered free samples to their studio audience.[10] Since then, until it's official launch, TV+ was distributed as a prize for the quiz segment Failon Ngayon sa DZMM and the Ang Mahiwagang Blackbox (The Magical Blackbox).

With the National Telecommunications Commission issuing the implementing rules and regulations towards the shift to digital television on December 18, 2014.[11] ABS-CBN Corporation officially launches ABS-CBN TV Plus on February 11, 2015 by a ceremonial switch-on at the ABS-CBN Broadcasting Center.[12][13]

On July 2015, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) signed a memorandum of agreement with TV Plus for the inclusion of the Emergency Warning Broadcast system (EWBS), guiding preparations for safety from disasters (such as flash floods and earthquakes), this was in coincidence with the Metro Manila Shake Drill happened on the 30th of July.

In addition, free-to-air channels from competing networks can be carried by TV Plus, as long as it is broadcast via digital signal.[14]

However, since it is the network's set-top box product, channels operated by ABS-CBN are encrypted first on the channel list, followed by digital channels ordered by its physical digital channel (e.g. In portions of Metro Manila, ABS-CBN and its digital channels are located on channels 1 to 6 [excluding 1-seg channels], while GMA and GMA News TV [both competing channels] are listed as channels 7 and 8, respectively [even though GMA's physical channel is 27, whereas ABS-CBN's physical channel is 43]). This, however, does not apply when doing manual scan on non-ABS-CBN channels.
