00:00:10, 30 June 2016 review of submission by Atloius

I am new to Wikipedia editing. Have had trouble uploading a photo to go with the article despite its author having granted unlimited use. I haven't found where to direct the author's message so as to enable me to upload the photo. Grateful for any help.Atloius (talk) 00:00, 30 June 2016 (UTC) Atloius (talk) 00:00, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean by "author"? Who took the photograph? Who owns the intellectual property rights in the photograph, if they are not owned by the photographer, why not? --Orange Mike | Talk 00:25, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Atloius You may find Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission and Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials useful. The first has a section explaining what to do when permission is confirmed. Read it in context, it's important that you ask the right person for the right permission. --Worldbruce (talk) 02:12, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 03:43:48, 30 June 2016 for assistance on AfC submission by Sammus09

Article not accepted due to "references do not adequately show the subject's notability."

Hello - my page has been denied because the "references do not adequately show the subject's notability." I have contacted the award provider and they do not keep an online record of winners as far back as 2011 & 2012. We do however have the physical awards that I'd be happy to submit an image of if that would help verify? Also a contact at the organisation (B&T) would be happy to clarify this in writing. Thanks Sam

Sammus09 (talk) 03:43, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sammus09. Awards are common in the business world. Winning them does not establish that a company is notable. If reliable sources independent of the company and of the awarding entity covered the company in-depth in connection with winning the award, then that coverage would make the company notable (such coverage need not be online). So photographing the awards will not help. In my experience, no matter how coveted a business award may be by the recipient, mentioning it in an encyclopedia article comes across to the wider world as embarrassingly desperate promotionalism. --Worldbruce (talk) 13:58, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

11:18:45, 30 June 2016 review of submission by Houndleywoof

I don't understand why my inline citation is not adequate? Please explainHoundleywoof (talk) 11:18, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Houndleywoof. You seem to be getting the hang of inline citations, they are much improved from when the draft was declined. The page ranges cited are mighty large for the content they support. Is a fair summary of pages 15-182 really only that his name is "Ray Foulk"? Did it really take the author Norman 11 pages to say the equivalent of "Foulk founded the Isle of Wight Festivals of Music in 1968 with his brothers Ronnie and Bill"? Page ranges in citations are normally a page or two. If an author has written 167 pages about Ray Foulk, one would expect a little more substance in the draft article. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:21, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

13:16:40, 30 June 2016 review of submission by Hedybaker

How do you move an article back to draft? Thanks. Hedybaker (talk) 13:16, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Hedybaker: You don't, at least not against consensus. Every time you click "Save page", you irrevocably agree to release what you've written for the Wikipedia community to do with as it see fit. --Worldbruce (talk) 14:10, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

18:46:11, 30 June 2016 review of submission by Panna Pips

Hi! 1/I have problem with the infobox: it does not show what I prepared. What did I do wrong? 2/If I would like to use the logo of the association (in the infobox), can I just use the logo URL nmbr from their website? Tks for yr help in advance! Panna Pips (talk) 18:46, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

This is not related to the infobox, but the use of the first person plural pronoun is non-neutral and tends to indicate article ownership. Robert McClenon (talk) 13:11, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

19:39:27, 30 June 2016 review of submission by Amyadler88

This page Amy Adler was made back in September 2014 and was all approved and now recently it has been edited badly and lots of info removed. I got the following message in my sandbox: Amy Adler "This is a redirect from a page that has been moved (renamed). This page was kept as a redirect to avoid breaking links, both internal and external, that may have been made to the old page name. For more information follow the bold category link."

Then on the actual page I have this message:

"This article is an autobiography or has been extensively edited by the subject or by someone connected to the subject. It may need editing to conform to Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy. There may be relevant discussion on the talk page. (July 2015) (Learn how and when to remove this template message)"

Hours and hours of editing went into this page and has all been removed??? That is so unbelievably frustrating!!! Please advise!!! thanks Amyadler88 (talk) 19:39, 30 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Amyadler88, it's not a draft for a new article so it's not in the purview of this project. The WP:Teahouse is a good place for beginners to get advice. Roger (Dodger67) (talk) 12:07, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The autobiography tag had always been on it. You removed it. I have restored it, because it still is your autobiography. If you disagree with the removal of content, discuss on the talk page; it was probably removed as non-neutral. Robert McClenon (talk) 13:06, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

21:59:15, 30 June 2016 review of submission by EditSC

Can you help me understand the notability concern with this subject? In comparison with published Wikipedia articles about related technologies (e.g., OpenWebGlobe, Marble (software), MapJack, CitySurf Globe, Bing Maps), this article seems to have more sources, including chapters in reputably published books, presentations from top conferences in the field, and news articles from a variety of sources.

This topic is also referenced on a number of other published Wikipedia pages (Virtual globe, OpenLayers, List of WebGL frameworks, Bhuvan, YoubeQ, GPlates, Analytical Graphics, List of geographic information systems software), some of which are about applications that use Cesium as their core technology. I plan to add incoming links from these articles to the Cesium article once it's accepted.

I'm not sure what steps to take next in improving the article. Thanks in advance for your help!

06:32:44, 1 July 2016 review of submission by Abinvjoy

I submitted my first article on 17th February 2016. The submission got declined and I resubmitted again. The reason for decline was showing like this, the content of this submission includes material that does not meet Wikipedia's minimum standard for inline citations. Please cite your sources using footnotes. After fixing the problems, I submitted it again on 10th June. But still the article is waiting for review. How to get it reviewed.

Abinvjoy (talk) 06:32, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have tone issues with the draft. It praises the subject rather than being neutral. Robert McClenon (talk) 13:01, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

10:00:58, 1 July 2016 review of submission by 109.79.34.222

Why was this draft rejected for lacking inline citations? For example, it is clear that the sentence: "All participants in the symbiosis are bionts and the resulting assemblage is a holobiont" is referenced to the book "Symbiosis in Cell Evolution" by Margulis, because the sentence is followed by "(Margulis 1993)", and the book is listed in a bibliography. 109.79.34.222 (talk) 10:00, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

No idea. I've passed the review so it's now at Holobiont - it was queued for passing but there was an existing redirect that needed to be cleared first. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 12:07, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

23:38:41, 1 July 2016 review of submission by The Donaldist

I was notified that an article I had submitted for creation was created, but it is unclear in the message what article they are referring too; additionally, the two articles I have submitted are still categorized as drafts. Could I have some sort of clarification? The Donaldist (talk) 23:38, 1 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome The Donaldist, to Wikipedia, the encyclopedia anyone can edit. A novice editor, perhaps thinking they were being helpful, left that misleading message on your talk page. They are not qualified to review or accept drafts. Draft:Lesbian Request Denied remains in the pool of submissions awaiting a qualified reviewer. Worldbruce (talk) 03:07, 2 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There seems to be confusion about the references provided as they clearly demonstrate notability. Burgunder has received extensive media recognition in both national and international publications on his accomplishments. Many of the media outlets are independent of the subject, too. Such publications include Running USA, Colorado Runner, ESPN, Pittsburgh City Paper, Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Naples Daily News, Associated Press, Competitor Magazine, CBS The Early Show, 71.211.184.218 (talk) 18:53, 30 June 2016 (UTC)and several of others. All of these publications have highlighted Burgunder's accomplishments.

As for notability in terms of athletics, Burgunder was selected to represent the only US men's team to compete in the Greatest Race on Earth and this was covered by the Associated Press. Burgunder is also a multiple record holder in terms of XTERRA trail running, which is the largest organized trail running circuit in the world. Also, Burgunder has garnered several of other impressive accomplishments that make his background unique and notable.

Lastly, Burgunder has received national recognition as a sports business person as he was named one of the rising stars in sports business by the Sports Networker, which is recognized as a national authority for the sports business industry.

Therefore, Burgunder is notable and is worthy of being published on Wikipedia.

I would like some help with clarifying what is missing from this article to make it suitable for publishing. Originally I was advised the in text referencing did not meet wikipedia standards and to use footnotes. As requested I have used footnotes following wikipedia guidelines, I have also changed the headings and format of the article to make in line with wikipedia guidelines. Was it just a formatting issue, or do I need to broaden the range and type of references used in my article? Thanks, Brendan

I have tone issues with the draft. It seems to be written in order to praise him rather than to describe him neutrally and let the readers decide to praise him. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:38, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You haven't yet submitted the draft for review. Do you have a specific question? I think that it needs more in-line references. Also, put his dates of birth and death in the lede sentence. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:41, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

08:05:20, 4 July 2016 review of draft by Blwhite

I'm writing a new page for an old card game. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Huckleybuck I'm having trouble with the links showing up properly. For example:

1994 saw the creation of the Huckley Buck Association.

It should be

1994 saw the creation of the International Huckley Buck Association.

The links seem to work properly, just don't display correctly. Also see the Auction Pitch link.

I'm open to any other advice toward making this article acceptable.

MOTIVATION I am in no way associated with the Association. I play Huckleybuck, and pass it on to others. I've been frustrated that I couldn't find the rules to the game anywhere until a few months ago. Then this week, I was teaching some new player and couldn't find the rules again. Seems to me that it should be listed on your page for

  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_trick-taking_games

That is my end goal. In fact, the players who taught me to play said, "You'll never find the rules for this game on the internet" because they didn't know that the international association or the rules page existed. Blwhite (talk) 08:05, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The first paragraph of the draft contains external links. They are not permitted. Improve the formatting. Some of the paragraphs begin with a space, which puts them in boxes. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:44, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have been editing and re-submitting my article "David Iornem". When I dream of horses advised me to change the tone of the article I did. Please I need help as I have submitted the article as a draft. Kind regards, Isaac. — Preceding unsigned comment added by IsaacAdom (talkcontribs) 11:43, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Want to delete an image that I uploaded with Upload Wizard. Eventually I used a different image, so the original is now an orphan image. I'd like to delete it. How do I do that?

Thanks.

Hi SurveyorMJF. I believe you could use speedy deletion criterion G7. Give it a try. --Worldbruce (talk) 23:24, 4 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello team - I am trying to edit/delete this page created on my behalf that is already slotted for Speedy Deletion - however I am unable to make any edits.

Sorry to bother you. I am trying to have a 'Speedy deletion" page created on my behalf deleted (that you initiated for Speedy Deletion). The page is under my name - to assist you, here is a link to the page itself: http://speedydeletion.wikia.com/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/LesliAnna_Thompson

I have attempted to delete/edit the page but am having no luck at all. Can you please process my request? Your assistance is appreciated. 204.101.117.205 (talk) 16:40, 5 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I wanted to know if I changed Gavin Becker Singer and Songwriter to Gavin Becker singer, songwriter and actor would my submission be accepted since he has had many articles mention him as an actor? His page was rejected because not enough has been published about him in the press and he hasn't won a major award. Gavin Becker has had more articles written about him if you combine his acting and singing career. I very much appreciate your help.

11:26:03, 6 July 2016 review of submission by Ruhjillah

I have recently had the page for 'Gerry Raffles', rejected for not citing enough independent sources. I would like to know whether the problem with the evidence I cited was that it is a collection of unpublished papers or that I, as a new editor, just didn't cite them properly. I am trying to cite a collection of papers held by the British Library as a source. The person who rejected my contribution stated that was because these were a memoir - which they are not. The archive collection held by the British Library may be named after Gerry Raffles partner, Joan Littlewood, but holds many of his own papers including his own passports, birth certificates, diaries and correspondence etc. and all the things mentioned can be verified by visiting the reading room. I may be misunderstanding the ability of Wikipedia to rely on archival sources but they are open records with the ability to be verified. The fact there are not more published sources is simply because the archive has only been released this year. Thank you for your help! Ruhjillah (talk) 11:26, 6 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Archive collection can be used but in this case they are WP:PRIMARY sources so they do nothing to prove the WP:NOTABILITY of the subject. You need WP:SECONDARY sources written and published by WP:INDEPENDENT commentators such as mainstream news media, magazine articles or books. Wikipedia cares very little for what subjects or their frieds, associates, family, employees, employers, agents or any other connected persons, have to say about the subject. In short WP:NOTABILITY exists only if people with no direct interest in the subject have taken note of the subject to the extent that they are motivated to write about it/him/her.
