This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 2001:999:2:9965:2d96:a3b7:2906:99e0 (talk) at 13:47, 20 July 2016 (→‎GER). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

You seem to have a lot of interest in this article. However, you are failing to follow wikipedia guidelines. For your reference, I include below the history of my attempts to deal with your multiple reverts of my work. No offense, but your last reaction appears rather impulsive to me. I suggest you give them a second thought:

"My reference is a citation from a reliable source. If you feel it "does not achieve the standards of wikipedia" then say how it does not, rather than just making the statement. The same goes for the "be neutral" note in your message. State how I am not being neutral, rather than just making the statement.
First, you claimed you were just "adding a pic and a link", when you were also, and in manner that could be considered surreptious, removing a sourced statement about the number of spectators both locally and via TV that witnessed the event. When I, assuming good faith from you, responded and explained that sourced content had been lost during your edit and reinstated the sourced information you deleted, you then came back a second time and removed my sourced content arguing this time that my "reference tells nothing about spectators and "hundreds of thousands" via tv!!!"'. For a third time I reinstated the source content, this time (as if you could not read the entire source document for yourself) adding not only the exact text in quotation marks, but also providing a full Spanish-to-English translation. You are now coming back for a third time with a new charge: that the information about the number of spectators given in the news source should not be included in the article because it is "speculation". Very clever of you to keep coming back with new fresh arguments every time your ammunition from your previous arguments has become useless.
But not everything is lost for you: If you now feel the information from the news source is speculation, then I suggest you argue your case with the author of that article: taking your case to me is not going to help as I did not write the news article.
In the meantime, as you have failed to make your case, and as the article statement regarding the number of local and via-TV spectators is properly sourced, unbiased, factual, and verifiable, the entry stays as is, unless of course you can come up with a new argument that is both made in good faith and logical.

The lead is used to highlight important facts. Why do you want to remove these facts from the lead? My name is Mercy11 (talk) 12:03, 18 August 2010 (UTC), and I approve this message.[reply]

So we have different opionions about important facts, i think. History facts, infos about the foundation, inaugural edition or may be the growing developent up to the actual edition are good facts for an intro and just after that infos about spectators at the meet or via tv last year. Every meet has spectators. And a lot of meetings are "visited" by thousands of spectators via tv.....Montell 74 (talk) 12:59, 18 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That's precisely my point - any event has a place and time, but only a fact such as the number of spectators can set a little league event from a small town apart from the World Series. Thus why that info must go in the lead. Precisely. My name is Mercy11 (talk) 01:42, 19 August 2010 (UTC), and I approve this message.[reply]

  • This permission does not give you any special status or authority
  • Submission of inappropriate material may lead to its removal
  • You may wish to display the {{Autopatrolled}} top icon and/or the {{User wikipedia/autopatrolled}} userbox on your user page

IP adding incorrect information to multiple runner's articles

Great job on removing vandalism. FYI, since this is continuing- there are now three known instances. Special:Contributions/89.241.137.21, Special:Contributions/89.241.208.38, Special:Contributions/89.241.211.81. Two of them have been blocked temporarily. Cut and paste moves

Hi Montell. You made a cut and paste move at the NACAC Association page last month. In future, please request an admin to make the move instead because the history must be properly recorded. This is really important as the history is needed to give attribution to the people who have written the articles! Thanks. SFB 18:39, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also, regarding the stat vandalism from that random IP user. I advise you to apply for the Rollback privilege. This gives you a click-able "rollback" button in the user's contributions list which will automatically undo all their vandalism. I applied for it a month ago and now it only takes me ten seconds to undo all the vandalism! A good time saver. SFB 21:28, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all this.;-) Montell 74 (talk) 21:36, 11 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your request for rollback

Hi Montell 74. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! FASTILY (TALK) 21:51, 14 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Montel, You know the nature of my work, we have paralleled on many articles. This is one of my new articles, obviously I think is a valid article to show the long history of notable performers in this event. Another editor thinks its junk and has taken to AfD. Please look the article over and drop a comment in the nomination discussion. If you think its junk, maybe I should re-evaluate the article's value. Trackinfo (talk) 08:39, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I know the problem. Now this list is well done, much better then the former simple enumaration. I would like to see the list in the article. But i wanted to create a meet record table there too. In fact, both lists would overload the article. So i'm a little bit torn. So this list just make sense in an own article. Well, i'm not sure about giving an explanatory statement.Montell 74 (talk) 11:43, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The phrase would be merge. That was the original way I had it. Would you please post your analysis into the AfD for the article or all this information could just be deleted with a prejudice to it ever returnig. Trackinfo (talk) 18:09, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

World Records in athletics

The modifications I made are minor corrections that match this which was just published in the last 2 days. Trackinfo (talk) 18:19, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Also regarding the latest addition to Decathlon, I see two National records listed as Walnut, California. WP:OR in recent years the decathlon associated with the Mt. SAC Relays actually takes place at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California rather than at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. The difference is something like 14 KM. I cannot state that this is in error, particularly in regard to C.K. Yang in 1963. I've seen pictures of him competing at the Walnut track, so I can't offer contradictory evidence. 1987 might be after the time they made the switch. I'll see if I can find any documentation to prove it. Trackinfo (talk) 18:36, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the date at Prefontaine, you are correct, now that I remember the race was June 3rd. I doesn't surprise me that IAAF got it wrong in a publication. The actual record time (en route) is still in question. I went with what IAAF published, which I assume is what will be submitted. I guess, since this is still a pending mark, we will have to wait to see what is ratified. Speaking of which, both of Seko's marks are still the official record until that happens. We are getting a bit premature in declaring a record before it is officially ratified. The 61030 document had to have been released in the last two days because it includes the results of the recent IAAF administrative elections. I take that as it being updated, but perhaps only that one section. You and I know the difficulties IAAF has in keeping all their information straight. Trackinfo (talk) 19:36, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Pending??? It's no pending mark! It's officially ratified as IAAF posted on NEWS site!Montell 74 (talk) 19:48, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Montell. In the case where old competition websites have expired (like here) you can search out an archived version of that website via Archive.org's "Wayback machine". Official websites can be very very useful for historical study. The problem is that it becomes very difficult to locate the old addresses because nobody links to them when they have been removed.

The archive machine can be immensely useful in other cases too. For example this website has all the information about the old International Cross Country Championships, should we decide to create results pages for those competitions (not readily available data!). It is a tool well worth remembering for the future. SFB 21:46, 15 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Popov's 1958 marathon time

I am really puzzled by what happened at Marathon world record progression. I removed a note (diff) and you seemed to revert me (diff) with a comment suggesting it was a simple "undo" (Undid revision 452672700 by Thincat (talk)) but in fact your edit corrected the extended time. Your edit was better than mine. But what actually happened? Seeing what I took to be a reversion I studied the matter further and found the corrected time to edit it in. However my second edit (as it turns out identical to yours) seems not to have been recorded. Weird. Did you in fact correct the time in making your undo? Thincat (talk) 11:01, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I edited the new fact manually. Sorry for the "Undo" but this was the easier way for me, just to put in the correct time.Montell 74 (talk) 12:51, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That explains it. And my edit, being a "no change" on yours, would have been ditched. I came across Popov because he was the first man to run faster than the current women's record. Remembering 1958 (and I do!), it was only after that that women could compete in the Olympics at 400 metres and above, except, curiously in 1928[1]. I expect the officials worried the women might get out of breath, poor dears. Thincat (talk) 13:12, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

List of world records in masters athletics

The official list of world records is maintained at http://www.world-masters-athletics.org/records/ thus those are the official distances. Those records are maintained by Sandy Pashkin, who also maintains the American records. She approves legitimate records with military precision, meaning if every i is not dotted or every t is not crossed, she will ignore a superior performance. She does this by the hundreds, thus the permanently pending records and multiple other sites that document the failures. You probably picked up information from masterstrack.com, from one of the foremost masters track journalists, Ken Stone. I know him personally. Lots of volunteers feed him information, most of it highly researched and credible, but in this case apparently not 100% credible. There are lots of people watching over each other's shoulders, Martin Gasselsberger, Weia Reinbound, Jeff Davison, Jeff Brower, Eugene Anton and myself. We're trying to get this stuff right by the various lists that are compiled. Wikipedia is an excellent final public destination for those efforts, so I feel this list is far more accurate than the official site.

Feel free to create a list of non-standard events, though I fear this particular page is far too long to fit it on this page. Its already a slow page to load. And I didn't cover the myriad of racewalk records that should also be part of this. Instead, I suggest a separate article for that, as I intend to do for racewalk when I have the time to start something that big. Thanks for watching and all the detailed work you do with records. SFB, Pietaster, you and I seem to be the major people trying to keep out the vandals who regularly try to deface T&F information. Trackinfo (talk) 08:15, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Masters multi-event scoring is done with a conversion table. First row the actual mark is recorded, then it goes through an age-graded conversion which would normally show on a second row. That converted mark is the one that goes through the multi-event table for a score which shows on a third row. At M35, the age grading factor is small, but for an older person the conversion is much larger. So in a more extreme example, an M90 might run a 20 second 100m. That would be a zero on the normal table. But for that age, its equivalent to a 11.47 worth 759 on the decathlon table. An excel calculator is available at www.stefanwaltermann.com/Database/Model2010multiagegradescore.xls
The way I created the multi-event scores (which you might consider using for the Open records layouts) was to create a specific template per record. It forces the layout necessary for proper display of multi-events. So if you edit the template Template:Kip Janvrin M35 Record or other similar templates (the names are) embedded in the results, you can edit in the information. For brevity I left out the converted marks, obviously it takes some explanation--what they mean. Also, of note, after age 50 various hurdle heights and spacings change and implement weights change. To confuse historical results, those changes have changed, so what someone threw or jumped in the 1980's or even 90's is not what is officially done in that same age group now. Most are easier now, lighter weights, lower hurdles, closer together. That has resulted in many superior, old records being invalidated--or left permanently pending as I have posted them. Requesting advice regarding abuser/vandal using multiple ip addresses

Heya, nice to talk to you! Instead of completely spamming the WP:AIV page, may I ask some advice on how best to deal with a person who's been using 10 (and counting) different ip addresses to spam a biography, its talk page and subsequently my personal pages since 2010? The biography in question is Dave Colclough in case you want to have a look, and semi-protection of the page doesn't work because the guy just resumes spamming angry nonsense once it expires. All the best, JaeDyWolf ~ Baka-San (talk) 18:13, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I can't give better advice than to warn the user and leave a message at the WP:AIV page every time!. Maybe some accounts will be blocked for month and years. Try! I put Dave Colclough to my watchlist! Thanks for asking.Montell 74 (talk) 18:52, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kenya Records

If you are going to add large sections for short course records on List of Kenyan records in swimming, then you may wish to update the introduction to reflect that the Kenya federation tracks them. If you do this, then you should also include a reference that shows that the Kenya federation actually tracks short course records. Also, the "World Championships" are long course; not short course (that relay time is from the "Short Course Worlds"). - Hooperswim (talk) 21:21, 26 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Hooperswim. Thank you for writing. You know that information of records in some nations like Kenya just come from the federation website. And it depends on the actuality of it. For example the long course records you added are from Nov 2010 (!!). What about 2011 and 2012? Do you really know that KSF didn't ratify records in this time? Are you sure that the record list from Nov 2010 is up-to-date?
Of course KSF recognises short course distances. They send a Kenyan team to the short course world championships to take part for the first time at the relay!
Also i don't agree with your term. Official name is FINA World Swimming Championships (25 m). Have a look at Fina website ([2]). So Kenya did the record at FINA World Championships (25m). Your feedback is welcome. Montell 74 (talk) 08:40, 27 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Greetings, Montell. I posted the 2010 records, because that was the source I had for them, and it is a place to start (and then there's also no original research on it). There probably are updates since 2010; alas, that is the source I could find. The file was called Kenyan Records, and listed quite a few different types of records, but there were no short course records. A source for any short course records is still missing; as is the explanation at the top that KSF tracks/recognizes short-course records. Please find it and document it. - Hooperswim (talk) 20:47, 8 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FYI: Achieng Ajulu-Bushell started swimming for Great Britain in 2010; so she most likely did not set a short-course Kenya Record (if they even exist) at any meet in 2010. Find the source that the short-course records exist. - Hooperswim (talk) 20:05, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Croatian Swimming Federation

Well, is the primary website wrong? :-) Croatian word savez could be translated both as "association" and "federation", depending on the context. It is not uncommon for organizations in Croatia not to have an officially fixed English name, and I've seen cases where usage flip-flops between two different translations. And there is no complete consistency overall: if you take a look at Category:Sports governing bodies in Croatia, you'll notice that it's always "Federation", except for tennis, but the Croatian name is again Hrvatski teniski savez. Anyway: in this case I'd go with the primary source. GregorB (talk) 12:39, 17 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Timed Finals vs. Time Trials (in Swimming)

Montell, greetings. Just as an FYI, there is a difference between a Timed Final event and a Time Trial in Swimming. A you seem to be confusing the two, an explanation is:

  • a Timed Final: is an event that's in a meet, where each swimmers on swims the event once. In things like the Short Course European Championships, the 1500 free is such an event, where each swimmer only swims the event once (rather than the prelims/finals format of all the other events).
  • a Time Trial: is not an event in a meet, itself. It is done purely for a swimmer, or swimmers, to obtain a time. They are not medal events, and they are generally not held at major meets. I am not aware of them ever happening at the World Championships, Short Course Worlds, European Championships, nor Short Course Europeans.

I write this explanation today, due to your recent change to the Ukrainian Records listing the male 1500s as being swum in Time Trials. Meet results from both those meets show that the swims happened in an actual meet, and even that the times warranted medals at at least one of those meets (Worlds for the LCM mark, SC Euros for the SCM mark). Those swims were not in a Time Trial. The men's long-course 100 breaststroke has been left marked as a "tt", as references indicate that the time in question was done in a time trial of a meet (Borysik swam slower in the event at the meet). Please utilize the event coding accordingly. Thanks. Hooperswim (talk) 17:29, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How concerned should I be that you do know this difference? Hooperswim (talk) 17:43, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Hooperswim. I see, it's good to learn from each other. I did'nt know this difference you explained. Maybe it should be also explained here in wikipedia. I thought: If winning an event depends just on the time, not on the place in the race then it's a time trial. Thanks.Montell 74 (talk) 20:51, 3 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm going to go further than just sending a backatcha. I am constantly going through the nit-picky details of wikipedia postings of athletic records. Without fail, Montell74 has already been on the page, fixed the page and will be watching to correct any edits I make. This is the kind of cooperation that makes wikipedia great. I don't know who he is, but he shares the same passion for correctness that I do--a passion thousands, perhaps millions of other fanatics might share. But they are only the readers, the beneficiaries of the information posted here. Editing takes work, those readers don't appreciate. We don't always agree, but out of the edit note discussions, I think everyone wins. Of course, there are several of us who have to watch these highly visible articles, because they seem to attract the loonies of the world. Several times a day, someone thinks they can insert their name into a claim for a prestigious world record. Who is there correcting and protecting the truth? Most of the time, it is Montell 74. His diligence is certainly respected by me and I would say vicariously by the people who care about the information posted and about wikipedia's reputation for accuracy in general. 15K record

On the Ecuadorian records in athletics the 15K record by Rolando Vera is listed as 28:08, the same as the 10K record and also duplicated as from a race in San Diego. Obviously more than 13 minutes under the world record, that is wrong. I don't know what is right or where to get it. The Ecuadorian NGB site is down. The NOC athletics site comes up--I have written to them in Spanish with no response. I can't find anything in google to source a proper mark. Israeli records in athletics

Comments

Hi Montell. Thanks for your helpful edits. In your last edits you deleted a ref, which we should have per wp:v. Was wondering what you had in mind. Also, you indicated that another record -- which is an Israeli record in athletics, so it comes under this title, should be in masters. Are you contemplating creating a master's section? Because it is a national record in athletics in Israel (supported with an RS, per wp:v), it should be reflected rather than deleted.--Epeefleche (talk) 00:03, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I've reflected that it is Masters.--Epeefleche (talk) 02:49, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but there are nearlly 10 masters records per discipline. This belongs to a new article or section. What is the all-over-national record in the 100-miles walk?? Montell 74 (talk) 20:35, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, but feel free to move it to a new section, if you wish to create one. This article is -- and has always been -- about national records in athletics. This is a national record in athletics. It is sourced to an RS. WP rules don't permit you to delete RS-supported text, along with the refs, as you have. If you want to create a new section (or article), I've no issue. But you are violating RS rules and edit-warring by deleting RS-supported text, just because you feel it belongs in a different section or article ... which you fail to then create. You're comment "this belongs to a masters records list", if agreed with, is reason for you to move it -- but not to delete it, as you have done repeatedly without good reason. I'll give you a chance to move it, if that is what you would prefer, or restore it. When restoring it, please restore the RS ref you deleted, which is here.--Epeefleche (talk) 21:07, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for comment, but first this is not a national record. It's a masters national best. Times over uncommon distances called bests, not records. Second: I can't find a note about the 100-mile-walk "record", (recognized by Israeli Athletic Federation) in your "references". Third, if you want to edit, it's your part to create a new section. This is a list about overall israeli records for men and women. If you want to add juniors, masters, youth please do it in a new section. Maybe have a look at Saint Lucian records in athletics. An Example for Masters table you find here List of world records in masters athletics. Montell 74 (talk) 21:30, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I think you're wrong -- one can move material based on your views, but not delete it. But I thought it would take less time to try to help you. The chart appears malformed, though, though it is now input. If you can fix it, that would be great.--Epeefleche (talk) 22:15, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks. BTW -- I also just wrote Israeli Athletic Association. Feel free to edit it, as you feel appropriate.--Epeefleche (talk) 23:20, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Combined Events Records

Hi Montell!

Thanks for your recent constructive editing of the List of Central American Games records in athletics with respect to hand timing/electronic timing.

Following question: A new championships record in women's heptathlon by Ana Maria Porras from Costa Rica (4785 pts) is reported here on page 45. The author is Carlos Clemente, NACAC Competition Director (i.e, the record is somehow official). Nevertheless, the 200m result of 25.80s was wind assisted (+2.6 m/s), normally no record in an individual event. But what about combined events? Are there different conditions? CroesJ (talk) 22:39, 20 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CroesJ! Thank you for asking me! Indeed there are different conditions. Records in combined events are recognised up to 4.0 m/s wind gauge. Unfortunately i have no reference yet, but i will search for that. You make a damn good job! Keep on! Thanks!Montell 74 (talk) 07:57, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Montell!
I appreciate your constructive edits to my recent changes of the Pan American Combined Events Cup Records.
Two questions:
1.) Can records be set by guest athletes?
2.) What about your above mentioned augmented 4.0 m/s wind limit for records in combined events as compared to "normal" events?
CroesJ (talk) 19:22, 19 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi CroesJ!

In my opinion 1.) every athlete who participates in this Games, can set a record. 2.) wind assisted marks above 4.0 m/s count for total points of a combined event. A "record" of a single combined event just can be a mark with legal wind assistance of 2.0 m/s.Montell 74 (talk) 11:41, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hammer Throw - Yuriy Sedykh

Hi Montell!

The record from Yuriy Sedykh is counted as Ukrainian record and as Russian record. I guess he was Ukrainian, so Sergey Litvinovs 86.04 should count as Russian record instead. What do you think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.247.119.20 (talk) 21:16, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Yuriy Sedykh was Ukrainian. IAAF counts Litvinovs 86.04 as Russian record. The Problem is, that Russian Athletic Federation, which recognize Russian records, counts Sedykhs mark. See [3] Montell 74 (talk) 22:50, 2 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Run with/against wind

Peruvian record holder in long distance running

Hello. I see that you've re-added the links to Johnny Perez, which I deleted. The reason for deleting was that they lead to page of Sir Douglas Quintet - which has nothing to do with Peruvian Athletics. --Kolkoensis (talk) 18:52, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Which article you're talking about?Montell 74 (talk) 19:09, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The purpose of a navigational template is to link common-themed articles together in an easy to use template. It is NOT for creating lists. If you want to list all the National Members of the International Association of Athletics Federations, you do it in a list article, not in a template. Navigational templates are supposed to functional.

To quote from Wikipedia:Navigation templates:

Navigation templates provide navigation between existing articles
Red links should be avoided unless they are very likely to be developed into articles. Even then, editors are encouraged to write the article first.
Unlinked text should be avoided.
External links should be included in appropriate articles, rather than a navigation template.

I do not believe "overview" is a usable defence, as such a non-specific term could be used for any navigation template to use lots of redlinks, thus rendering impotent the need to specify that navigation template should not have redlinks. A reason needs to be a lot more specific.

Lee Whiteley

Hi Montell, I'm really not sure if you can help me with this or not, but you seem to one of the more clued-up editors on athletics. I have recently started the article for Lee Whiteley who is a British para-sport sprinter. We have him down as holding the World record in the 100m T35. But on reading the IPC results (p.58) program from Lyon, the 100m record is given to Yang Sen of China set at the Beijing Paralympics. It is widely reported that Whiteley set new World Records at the Fazza International, but I now think that this has been retracted. I think Whiteley was classified nationally as a T35, but has since been reclassified as a T38 when he was internationally tested, and therefore his records removed. He is reported as a T38 athlete on his IPC and powerof10 profile at competed as such in Lyon. So I am basically asking if you think we should remove his T35 record, I would appreciate any advice you could give. FruitMonkey (talk) 09:27, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi FruitMonkey. Thanks for asking. I think you can remove Witeleys time because of [8].Montell 74 (talk) 17:08, 16 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

European junior records in athletics

I appreciate you helping to keep the list up to date, but there were some valid changes I made which you then undid.

The following marks have not been ratified for various reasons: 21.13 Tomas Somers (200m) 7.48 Wilhem Belocian (60H) 2:01.77 Anita Hinriksdottir (800) 13.93m Elena Andreea Panţuroiu (TJ)

See here for the most up-to-date list of ratified records: Men - http://www.european-athletics.org/records/performances//tag=RECORDS.INDOOR.MEN.JUNIOR/records.html Women - http://www.european-athletics.org/records/performances//tag=RECORDS.INDOOR.WOMEN.JUNIOR/records.html

I blame European Athletics for making a real pigs ear of these records, suddenly deciding that all records (even the old ones!) need a drugs test to be ratified.

I added in the 800m times from Wuhn & Wachtel because they are superior to the existing EJR (despite being set on an oversized track). It's good to include them for reference purposes, just like Sibylle Thiele's pentathlon mark. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jkam (talkcontribs) 19:07, 2 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jkam. First thank you for your work! I know the up-to-date list of ratified records - and it's big lack of transparency. (What about Filip Sasínek's 1500m mark...). It would be nice to keep the (better and equal) marks of Somers, Belocian, Hinriksdottir and Panturoiu with explanation why they have not been ratified.Montell 74 (talk) 07:02, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
True, it would be good to keep equal marks like Somers' 21.13, but that would set a precedent for including all marks that are equal or better than the existing ratified EJR (of which there are many). For example, there are several European juniors who have run faster than 21.13 indoors; should we include all of those? I think the simplest thing is to list the "official" ratified record, and then the actual best performance by a European junior. Otherwise we'd end up with a huge long list.Jkam (talk) 09:02, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Liechtensteinian Records in Athletics

Magnus Jákupsson

Hello. I don't know how to add this record, because Magnus Jákupsson swam in the same time as Matthias Gydesen did in 2010, so now they share the same record. Can you help? You can read about it here (in Danish) Best regards and thanks for you great effort! --EileenSanda (talk) 22:24, 24 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I am sorry, I was not clear enough, I thought that you knew, that Magnus Jákupsson changed his swimming-nationality in 2012. He can't set Faroese records any more, only Danish. I am sorry that I didn't mention it here. I have not created a page about him here yet, because I am afraid it will be deleted. Do you think it makes him notable enough for the English Wikipedia that he has sat Danish and Faroese records in swimming? I have written about him on the Faroese and Danish Wikipedia da:Magnus Jákupsson.
Sorry, didn't know about that. Think he is a notable swimmer with own page. Lot of swimmers (from Asia or Africa) have own pages just because they took place at olympic games or world championships. I support your idea.Montell 74 (talk) 14:23, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks, I have created an article about Magnus Jákupsson earlier today, after I wrote to you. I am still working on it. I am sure he is notable, but it is not enough that I think so, but I think that other might think so too, he has not yet competed at the Olympics, perhaps he will qualify later this year. He is the best backstroke male swimmer Denmark has at the moment. He has competed at the European Championships. He was going to try to quilify in March 2015 for the World Championships in Kazan, but he got ill just before the Danish Open where the Danes had a chance to qualify, he was under surgery for appendicitis under the Danish Open and therefor missed the chance to qualify. It was a great loss for the Faroe Islands that he chose to swim for Denmark, but that was his choise, there has not been such a good backstroke swimmer in the Faroe Islands since him, and now he is the best backstroke swimmer in Denmark. da:Sára Ryggshamar Nysted is very good, I would like to create an article about her here, but I guess I have to wait until she has competed at the World Championship or what? She is be far the best Faroese female swimmer all times, but she is only 14, I am guessing she has to compete at the World Championships or the European Championships, she has competed at the Junior World Championship 2015 in Kazan, but that is probably not enough, what do you think? --EileenSanda (talk) 15:16, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I think she's also worth notable. Maybe these articles should not be about results in small competitions. Not all swimming results of Magnus should be listed. He's still a talent, not a famous world record holder.Montell 74 (talk) 22:02, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
