Nomination of Shōnen for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Shōnen is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shōnen until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:17, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have moved Shōjo to Shōjo manga per Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Shōnen. My worry is that the article doesn't go beyond a dictionary definition. Would it be better presented on Wiktionary? - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 15:55, 6 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Need some help

Do you have any advice for Wikipedia:WikiProject Anime and manga/Deletion Archive/2016? I am waiting for Yukimasa Obi to close so it is okay that it says "Invalid time" for now on that one, but it shouldnt say that for the others where the start date is "29 November 2016". - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 18:36, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Knowledgekid87: Not sure what to do. They look like they should be fine, so I don't know. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 19:29, 16 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Marchen listed at Redirects for discussion

An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Marchen. Since you had some involvement with the Marchen redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. Si Trew (talk) 17:05, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Speculative fiction category being removed

Hello Nihonjoe I ask you to explain to User talk:MarnetteD what speculative fiction because he wrongly removes the category of articles. Because his comments "there is no sourced info in the article to support the cat" demonstrate a complete ignorance of the meaning of the term. For example, his inexplicable editions in articles: Fantastic Planet, Despicable Me, The Magic Voyage ets. After all of the content articles is absolutely clear that they are directly related to speculative fiсtion. Please help you, as a power user in "Speculative fiction theme" recovery my version of this pages, if you agree with them. With respect--Yasnodark (talk) 14:36, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Yasnodark: Please don't put your message in the middle of another conversation. New messages go at the bottom of the page. I'll see if there's anything that needs doing regarding your request. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 17:24, 23 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yo Ho Ho

Ivanvector

I believe you "gave" him rights that are included in the administrator bundle.--Bbb23 (talk) 00:32, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's possible. It doesn't really matter, though, as it works the same whether it's explicitly mentioned or bundled. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:34, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Don't you like the elegance of simplicity? Not a big deal but I find it mildly confusing to see the rights rollbacker and administrator together. You didn't even need to "explicitly toggle" extended confirmed user. I don't have it, although something tells me I've edited enough to warrant it. You don't have it either. Anyway, I'll stop being persnickety and leave you alone.--Bbb23 (talk) 01:03, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
WP:CRAT#Promotions and RfX closures states "Do not remove the extended confirmed user permission", so I replaced it. If that's wrong, then we need to verify that, and remove that line from the procedure. As for you finding it "mildly confusing" to see those rights together...I don't really have anything to say about that. Simplicity is great, but worrying about it is rather pointless. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 01:07, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Basically if you remove it, you have to manually re-add it if they stop being admins (because it is autopromoteonce). — xaosflux Talk 01:35, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I took that direction out, since it is now in the revocation directions to re-add it if it was ever there. — xaosflux Talk 01:36, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That works. Thanks! ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 02:31, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sea of Japan/Archive 4

Hi Nihonjoe
I'm not sure what the first part of this edit was supposed to do, (the second part was to move things into the archive) but it has created numerous requests for "the semi-protected article at Sea of Japan/Archive 4 be created" - also listing it at User:AnomieBOT/SPERTable - Shall I simply revert these to the previous format? - Arjayay (talk) 12:48, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, not sure what happened there. I've fixed it so it shouldn't happen again. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 19:44, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rolesville High School

You deleted Rolesville High School as A7 and G11. I have created a new article with the same title, but without any copyvios. Could you please restore any older versions of the article that you deleted if they do not violate A7 and/or G11? The school in in the news over a violent incident that occurred there. Eastmain (talkcontribs) 18:57, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There's not any reason to restore older versions of the page. Also, I don't have time to browse through the diffs to see what is and is not a copyvio. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 21:02, 4 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

can you look over my Sandra Tayler draft?

Hi, I've been working on a page for Sandra Tayler. Right now my draft is in one of my sandboxes. I'm not sure if her page would pass notability criteria. Do you have any suggestions? thanks, Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 21:48, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Rachel Helps (BYU): I did some editing and commented on talk page there. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:43, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your edits, they greatly improved the page. I think it's ready to go live. Normally I just copy and paste into a new page, but I don't want to lose your edits. There's also a lot of old stuff on that sandbox page not related to Sandra Tayler. Can you move the edits since January 5th to a page named Sandra Tayler? Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 21:13, 9 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dokdo / Liancourt Rocks / Takeshima

. . . Well, well, well. I guess that you are thinking about Dokdo as the so called Liancourt Rocks or Takeshima. . . It's Dokdo. Well, if you think I vandalized Wikipedia,. . . Well, as a Japanese, you would. But as a Korean, I just couldn't and didn't pass that article. Nihonjoe, what do you think of us Koreans? . . . 175.196.23.14 (talk) 00:46, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I've been accused of being Japanese, Korean, and many other things. I have a lot of Korean friends, and all of them are great. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:59, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Usernames/ANI

Hey, I had to remove the ANI thread. Could you please report such usernames directly to oversight instead of a noticeboard and if possible find a a checkuser also when you find these names? We apply WP:DENY to these users and the names are oversighted for...the appropriateness shall we say. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 09:52, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@DeltaQuad: There's nothing a CU can do (other than verify the IPs match). It's a software issue, not a CU issue. The blocking actions are not being logged (or if they are, they are not being logged correctly), and they need to be. This is a developer issue. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 17:15, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
They are definitely being logged (I can still retrieve them now), just not in the view of administrators or public users, it's a feature of suppression blocks/global hiding. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 17:40, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@DeltaQuad: The only place I can seem them as logged is on the SUL page. If nothing else, something should appear in a public log, even if it's just a "blocked at account creation" note or something. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 17:58, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I get that you would wish to see something to indicate a block, but there are very real use cases where verifying a username exists in the first place is extremely problematic. I suppose we could unbundle the suppress options in the block interface (it's just a one box oversight all) to be OS only revisions, only username, only edit summaries, or the whole lot including the block entry. I can't speak for global hiding as I'm not a steward and have no idea how that works. -- Amanda (aka DQ) 08:09, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Redirection of speculative fiction novels and series

Hello Nihonjoe I ask you to express opinion about the latest redirections of User:SnowFire. I ask you to assess the expediency I of merging articles by him, including the elimination of articles about award-winning speculative fiction novels, for example The Apocalypse Codex & The Hidden Family.--Yasnodark (talk) 13:36, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Note: I have no idea why Yasnodark asked you rather than me, but if you'd like to chime in, please do so at User talk:Yasnodark, and please read User_talk:BrownHairedGirl#Redirection_of_speculative_fiction_novels_and_series as well. SnowFire (talk) 23:20, 8 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

NSK Ltd. advert tag

Hi, I noticed you added an advert tag to NSK Ltd. page.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=NSK_Ltd.&action=history

I have looked over the text and am not sure why this is flagged as an advert, can you clarify so we can make necessary adjustments.

In the meantimne I will remove the tag until you can specify exactly what you think needs changing

All the best

@Fastassist: As you work for the company, I'm not surprised you can't see it. I've removed everything that was blatant advertising. Please do not remove such tags again until the concerns have been addressed. I've also noted that you work for the company on the talk page of the article. This is required by the Wikimedia Foundation. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 00:15, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request on hold for a very long time

You placed an unblock request on hold at User talk:Sunny paris16 in June 2016‎. I suggest that you go back and decide to accept or decline the request. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 18:07, 19 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm the graphic designer for Action Target and our Wikipedia page is using an old logo. It appears you are the one who designated our logo and unreplaceable. I need to get this updated and am looking for either permission to do so, or the ability to send you the correct file. Jason Jewkes, Graphic Designer jjewkes@actiontarget.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by ActionTarget (talkcontribs) 17:12, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@ActionTarget: I didn't designate the logo as "unreplaceable". I merely uploaded it. Put the new one up on your website (which has a few coding errors, by the way), then point me at the file and I'll update it. Make sure the logo image will look good on a white background. ···日本穣 · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe · Join WP Japan! 21:16, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
