Onward is an upcoming 2020 American 3D computer-animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. It is directed by Dan Scanlon and produced by Kori Rae. The voice cast stars Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer.[1]

Synopsis

Set in a suburban fantasy world without humans and populated with elves, trolls, and sprites, where unicorns are as common as rodents, two teenage elf brothers embark on a quest to discover if there is still magic out in the world in order to spend a day with their deceased father who died when they were too young to remember him.[1]

Production

In July 2017, the untitled "suburban fantasy world" film was announced at the D23 Expo, with Dan Scanlon set to direct and Kori Rae producing.[3] The film is based on the death of Scanlon's father, who died when he and his brother were 1 and 3 years old respectively, and the relationship between Dan and his brother. Scanlon decided to write the story when he heard an audio clip of them as teenagers.[4] On December 12, 2018, the title was revealed to be Onward, together with its cast comprising of Chris Pratt, Tom Holland, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Octavia Spencer.[5] C. S. Anderson was announced to have co-written the screenplay with Scanlon.[6]

Release

Onward is scheduled to be released on March 6, 2020 by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.[2]
