Antaeus, your edit needed factual corrections as you made POV interpretations on what Martinez says in his website. That is not permitted as it is your POV and not the source's. --Zappaz 28 June 2005 14:21 (UTC)
- Zappaz, I support your version of attribution..--AI 2 July 2005 19:40 (UTC)
- Antaeus, in your original contribution you left only the comment "NPOV." IMHO, you are advocating anti-cult POV. See Wikipedia:Guidelines for controversial articles and Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a soapbox--AI 2 July 2005 19:54 (UTC)
Antaeus did not attributing in his original contribution. His reverts are censoring Zappaz' attribution of source which is contrary to Wikipedia official policy: Wikipedia:Neutral point of view#The vital component: good research--AI 2 July 2005 19:57 (UTC)
Alleanza cattolica
This is definitely not just an allegation by a critic, the sources are Introvigne and the Alleanza Cattolica.
Introvigne has written the statement in his in his 1993 book "La questione della nuova religiosità":
- "Così militanti di Alleanza Cattolica, con altri, hanno fondato e tuttora animano il CESNUR, il Centro Studi sulle Nuove Religioni [2], ormai riconosciuto come uno dei maggiori centri di studio scientifico, a livello internazionale, sui problemi delle nuove religiosità. " ("So, militants of the Alleanza Cattolica together with others have founded and are still inspiring CESNUR the Center of Studies about New Religions, which is now known as one of the major scientific study centers, on international level, on problems of new religiosity.")
Also in an interview with the Swiss radio published later in the Corriere de la Sera, Introvigne admits that he is member of the Alleanza Cattolica and the Alleanza Cattolica journal Cristianità has dozens of his articles on its site (site search gives 133 hits).
Moreover, the Alleanza Cattolica, on its site, mentions its leading members [1] (retrieved 17 August 2005) :
- "Leading members: Giovanni Cantoni, founder and national regent; Mauro Ronco, Marco Invernizzi, Paride Casini, Leonardo Gallotta, Marco Tangheroni, Attilio Tamburrini, Giovanni Formicola, Alfredo Mantovano, Elia Sgromo, Benito Macchiarola, regional regents; Massimo Introvigne, Giulio Soldani, Ermanno Pavesi, Ferdinando Leotta, Fr. Pietro Cantoni, consultors of the National Chapter."
Cristianità: May/June 2005 (BTW there are fourteen more hits for Massimo Introvigne in the issue): Roma, 14 febbraio 2005. (... journalist Bibi David has interviewed the doctor Massimo Introvigne of Alleanza Cattolica and director of CESNUR...)
In view of the above, I think we can treat Introvignes membership in the Alleanza Cattolica as a fact. --Irmgard 20:49, 17 August 2005 (UTC)
Source for Introvignes fortune is the Italian newspaper Espresso which has it from fiscoggi.it and it's not a "one of its kind" info: The Corriere della Sera (one of the top Italian newspapers) wrote that he is among the top ten taxpayers in the city of the Agnelli Clan - (Agnelli, a Torinese, is among the 10 richest people of Italy). No use giving the exact references in the article, that's all Italian. --Irmgard 11:29, 19 August 2005 (UTC)
Pontifical University of the Holy Cross
Source for Opus Dei affiliation is homepage of the institute. Distinction is important as the name gives the idea that it is part of the Vatican, which it is not. --Irmgard 11:35, 30 September 2005 (UTC)
- I have not been able to find any source (apart from Wikipedia itself and websites quoting it) saying that Massimo Introvigne is on the faculty of the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross. What I have found is that he gave a lecture there in the mid 1990s (source: Romana), and he will be giving another in March 2006 (source: the institute's homepage), but both of those lectures, over ten years apart, are as guest speakers in conferences organised by the university, of which there seem to be quite a few. This isn't 'joining the faculty': there are many such guest speakers, including the then Cardinal Ratzinger. Furthermore, I can't find him on the faculty listings on the homepage. Finally, I asked someone working there about this, and he dismissed it as inaccurate. Can anyone help? Asoane 12:50, 24 February 2006 (UTC)
- Deleted unverifiable infos. --Raistlin (talk) 22:25, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
No source
There is no source given that critics regard his reply as useful, therefore I removed the para. --Irmgard 07:34, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
- Introvigne's reply [2] was regarded as useful even by critics, since he went to great length to obtain and post on the Internet crucial and previously unavailable documents of the original U.S. controversy
Vampirism
Why isn't his self-identification as a vampire (for which he has been mocked by many) included? AnonMoos 16:40, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
- Whether vampire, or just vampire buff, we should include some mention, as it has been well-reported. -Will Beback 19:47, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
- He probably doesn't literally think of himself as a vampire, but he seems to take it as seriously as a hard-core Trekkie... AnonMoos 20:30, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
- I know this response is a little belated since I only discovered it today. I am not a member of the vampire community, but I do have friends that are. It is the fascination with vampire that is the point
- He probably doesn't literally think of himself as a vampire, but he seems to take it as seriously as a hard-core Trekkie... AnonMoos 20:30, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
- And what point is that? Why so much ink spilled about his hobby, and a whole section devoted to vague criticism of his views?
- We should have first outlined what his views are, and what reasons he gives for espousing them. Then, to be neutral, we can say why opponents criticize his views, instead of reporting their unsupported accusation of "bias". --Uncle Ed (talk) 20:47, 12 May 2009 (UTC)

Gallagher quote in the lead
I checked the quote in the lead: American scholar Eugene V. Gallagher describes CESNUR as "a research organization focused on new and minority religions." (Eugene V. Gallagher, "'Cult Wars' in the Twentieth and Twenty-first Centuries," in Eugene V. Gallagher, ed., Cult Wars in Historical Perspectives: New And Minority Religions, London and New York: Routledge, 2017, 2.) The full quote is "Massimo Introvigne charts the development of the Center for the Study of New Religions (CESNUR) as a research organization focused on new and minority religions." JimRenge (talk) 00:41, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
- Interesting. The relevant page of the book is readable on Google Books. From context this isn't a quote from Gallagher, it is instead Gallagher explaining how Introvigne himself describes CESNUR. Attributing this to Gallagher is not appropriate in any part of the article, especially not the lead. Pending further discussion, I have removed the line. Grayfell (talk) 05:16, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
Introvigne contributed to the book edited by Gallagher but, as it is clear from the context, the further comments are by Gallagher himself.Aidayoung (talk) 09:19, 30 October 2019 (UTC)
Michael Ashcraft's book
Obviously Ashcraft's book is a relevant source. It has been reviewed inter alia by Carole Cusack from University of Sydney as "highly recommended to all interested in the history of academic study of religion and in new religions in particular. It is warmly commended as an excellent work." See [4]. Ashcraft is a professor at Truman State University, see phttps://www.academia.edu/3614747/CV_for_W._Michael_Ashcraft], and his book is published by Routledge, a specialized publisher. It discusses Introvigne in even more laudatory terms, that I could have included. I limiter myself to quoting a cool assessment. Aidayoung (talk) 05:40, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
- This bland, cherry picked filler doesn't improve the article, and only serves to pad-out an already bloated and obviously promotional article. Citing a positive general review of a source demonstrates a very, very poor understanding of Wikipedia and due weight. With all sources, context matters. Do not ignore context. Grayfell (talk) 05:54, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
I agree, context matter. The context is the only academic book on the history of the study of new religious movements, written by a credentialed academic and published by an academic press. In the book, Ashcraft discusses the role of CESNUR and Introvigne in the history of NRM studies and cult controversies. While Kent should be a RS and Ashcraft dismissed?Aidayoung (talk) 06:07, 6 December 2019 (UTC)
