Untitled

Do we have any architects here to expand this article to include the Soc-Realist architecture? [[User:Halibutt|Halibutt]] 10:25, Sep 15, 2004 (UTC)

GDR

Someone added this:

It is also often overlooked that the GDR had its own movement of Socialist Realism, separate from that of the USSR. It was pivotal in the rise and fall of the GDR.

Without explanations it is meaningless and useless. Mikkalai 00:55, 28 Nov 2004 (UTC)

People's Republic of China

A recent edit just added the line

However The People's Republic of China still produce idealised poster propoganda, for example to promote their recent manned space launch successes.

which I like. Is there any chance we could get an illustration of one of these posters? I guess it could be included under 'fair-use'. -- Solipsist 14:36, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I deleted the last external link to some russian site because the site tried to install a trojan (virus) and crashed firefox repeatable.

Potential bibliography

OK for general information, but would avoid, since writing a tertiary source from a tertiary source is not recommended Aolivex (talk) 16:58, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Exceedingly short; was there a catalogue that accompanied this exhibition that could provide more details? Aolivex (talk) 16:58, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Weak source - could you find a similar source that is more scholarly? (Who is the author of this text?) Aolivex (talk) 16:58, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No mentions of architecture

I noticed that this article almost completely skips over the architecture, even though architecture is definitely a significant element (and the most noticeable one for people living in post-soviet countries). For example the Polish article has mostly pictures of buildings, and there's even a separate article for socialist realist architecture in Poland on the Polish version of wiki. Unless the Polish article talks about something different (but then they should not be linked), I think more mentions of architecture should be included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.66.143.225 (talk) 00:40, 29 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Yugoslavia

Yes there was Tito-Stalin split but still there are quite of few monuments, etc in social realist style. Not an expert but pretty sure even after split they were still influenced by social realism.Sourcerery (talk) 13:22, 28 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gender

I propose adding a “Gender” section to the Socialist Realism page. It would both be feasible and significant; there is an abundance of literature and discussion on the topic, and the portrayal of women in Socialist Realism was relatively unique compared to other forms of art. Further, due to the overtly political nature of Socialist Realism, the way gender roles were depicted in government commissioned works during different time periods reflected the attitude Socialist countries as a whole had towards women’s role in society.

I mostly wrote about the depiction of women during the pre-stalin + stalin eras, but i'd really encourage people to add something about LGBT representation - i'm curious if there were any paintings that reflected the period of greater acceptance in the 1920s.
