Welcome

Welcome!
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. The following links will help you begin editing on Wikipedia:

Please bear these points in mind while editing Wikipedia:

  • Respect copyrights - do not copy and paste text or images directly from other websites.
  • Maintain a neutral point of view - this is possibly the most important Wikipedia policy.
  • Take particular care while adding biographical material about a living person to any Wikipedia page. Particularly, controversial and negative statements should be referenced to multiple reliable sources.
  • If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
  • Do not add troublesome content to any article, such as: copyrighted text, libel, advertising or promotional messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Deliberately adding such content or otherwise editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism, doing so will result your account or IP being blocked from editing.

The Wikipedia Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Wikipedia. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. By the way, you can sign your name on Talk and discussion pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~ (the software will replace them with your signature and the date). Again, welcome! Thanks! I am constantly learning (partly by participating) and I try to stick with WP intent, purpose, and common sense. Further, I am reading your references. Thanks Again! Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 10:51, 18 March 2010 (UTC) Sometimes, I need to read the WP guidelines over-and-over. Hope you don't mind if I create my own creative punctuation and grammar .!. I try to be more-formal in Articles than in Talk.[reply]

Your signature

Hi- would you mind removing the line break and horizontal rule from your signature? They kind of break page flow. See also, Wikipedia:Signatures#Appearance and color. Thanks! --King Öomie 17:04, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

King Oomie, Thanks for the suggestion, I see your point.
It is not in my signature block—I add the bars after commenting to break the flow,
and I put in line-breaks to prevent line-wrapping when not wanted.
Bottom line: TNKS! I'm taking your suggestion, and will also be reading and learning
since I am on the board of the wiki for http://www.sascommunity.org/wiki/Main_Page
Thanks Again, Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 14:34, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rush

I undid your edit to Rush Limbaugh, while it probably true, without a source it could be seen as negative/derogatory information, thus a violation of BLP. If you can provide a source, then we can definitely use it.---Balloonman NO! I'm Spartacus! 17:05, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[Thanks! With effort, I've found two good references, very insightful and instructive.] Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 23:21, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. As it was written, it could have been perceived as a negative comment, "he was too lazy and didn't want to put forth the effort"... so while I knew it was probably a true statement, we needed a source for it. BLP is one of those touchy subjects around here due to some dubious work in the past.---Balloonman NO! I'm Spartacus! 23:52, 10 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Global warming controversy

Thank you for your contributions to the encyclopedia! In case you are not already aware, an article to which you have recently contributed, Global warming controversy, is on article probation. A detailed description of the terms of article probation may be found at Wikipedia:General sanctions/Climate change probation. Also note that the terms of some article probations extend to related articles and their associated talk pages.

The above is a templated message. Please accept it as a routine friendly notice, not as a claim that there is any problem with your edits. Thank you. - 2/0 (cont.) 14:21, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For those who read this automated note to me who are interested:
There was a sentence: world-consensus is that climate change is a serious problem.
To this I added a note that Germany is now 58% changing their view (with ref.)[1]
"The case for anthropogenic (man-made) global warming (AGW) eroded significantly after the leak of IPCC eMails."
This was immediately removed, "This is just one nation", someone said.
(OK, I'll ref more nations later, and on the proper WP page.)
Or better still, I'll just wait for the obvious to set in.
Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 16:03, 2 April 2010 (UTC) PS: I'll be more careful in reading header notes for guidance.[reply]
God has a sense of humor with freezing, ice-storm winters. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 03:03, 28 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

For those with further interest, you will of course have noticed that those that leaked the first thousands of cover-up eMails, (hacked by Russians to protect their oil price interests) held back 5,000 eMail notes which are now released just before another Global Warming international conference. .!. .!. .!. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 12:00, 4 December 2011 (UTC) . . . But who will notice; who will care ? ? [This last sentence is the SUBJECT-line of the update.][reply]

There has not been 'warming' for 15 years—news today from England. Picture of 'ice fairs' when the Thames River froze over. Here is the link with the picture. It's a great and interesting picture that should be included on the 'Global Warming, controversy' WP page.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2093264/Forget-global-warming--Cycle-25-need-worry-NASA-scientists-right-Thames-freezing-again.html

I want to add a comment to my own TALK page here about AGW/manmadeClimateChange/Global Warming, since scientist wanting to prove ice was/is melting in Antarctica went on a ship only to get stuck in the ice. Of 41 media reports, only one reported they were Global Warming scientists, and the other 40 reported they were tourists (reports Glenn Beck). My point is this: It has been 15 years since Earth has been cooling, not warming; and I want to see promises of 1 degree warming in 100 years and the water rising here in California, so I can sit on the beach and sun myself sipping lemonade. Rush Limbaugh said it was ironic that the scientists had a ChiCom ice-breaker ship sail to the rescue only to be also frozen and stuck in the ice. The best rescuers in the world, the U.S. Military had to rescue them. He says that Liberals in media must be perplexed: do they support Obama in supporting Communism or do they continue to hate our Military. P.S. I hope I am able to talk to myself here without being reverted .!. -- Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 02:09, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Headline: THE REAL TEMPERATURE RECORD

Very interesting! Here is the start: JOHN HINDERAKER, "As we have written a number of times, one of the basic problems in assessing the credibility of the catastrophic anthropogenic global warming theory is that it has been difficult, if not impossible, to obtain raw temperature data for scientific analysis. Hi Charles. A request for your input

Your recent edit corrected my false notion that the Salt Lake Tribune was owned by the Mormon church. There is another Mormon-related matter that I really think your expertise could help and that is that the MOS page about how to term the LDS on Wikipedia. The most pertinent section is here. The issue is to what degree the terms "Mormon church" and "LDS church" relate specifically to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in specific, and to what kind of sourcing should be used to document this. Thanks, if you find time and the interest to look into the matter and offer your opinion or commentary.--Hodgson-Burnett's Secret Garden (talk) 22:47, 23 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Garden, Sorry for the delay in answering; I was in an edit-war a year ago and lost, hence diminished-dedication. Let me give your question some reflection. I have my own opinions, inspiration from my wife, and I have links to LDS public relations at the highest levels if I choose to ask. I realize that backup links are very important. This I understand. Thanks for asking; I hope I do not disappoint you. Will try my best. Sincerely, CES

This is a test to see if things point properly

Broadcast stations in North America generally use call letters in the international series. There are some common conventions followed in each country. In the United States, the first letter generally is K for stations west of the Mississippi River and W for those east of the Mississippi; all new call signs have been 4-character since 1922, though there are historical 3-character calls still in use, such as WOR New York City, WBZ Boston, WRC Washington DC, WSB Atlanta, WSM Nashville, WMC Memphis, WGN Chicago, KLZ Denver, KSL Salt Lake City, KEX Portland, OR, KFI Los Angeles and KGU Hawaii.[2]

There are 29 jargon-terms that should be archived for "History preservation".

New Archive page should be Jargon_of_the_Rush_Limbaugh_Show_Archive

Every four years all terms should be purged and reevaluated for Archive, retention, or deletion. The time to do this is at each presidential election. I.e., start the jargon-term voting in November of leap years, finalize the next Jan. It can be noted that jargon terms and phrases are created nearly every week and we need not wait to add and delete as deemed appropriate; but archiving en masse should happen as just described.

Your comments and discussion  :: ______________________________________

New words and jargon phrases coined by Rush Limbaugh or callers to his radio show

Rush coins a new jargon-word once a week, at least. And he coins new jargon-phrases even more often. The question becomes, "Is it amusing, hilarious, witty and/or wise?" Also, "Is it note-worthy?" And, "Does it have a secondary source? Did someone else say he said it?" . . . Further, "Will it continue as important 'jargon' on the Rush Limbaugh Radio Show (and/or be picked up by Drive-by Media and/or other conservative talk-shows)?"

Each new jargon-term or jargon-phase cannot go into the Article, or it would grow too fast and too big. Wisdom and common-sense needs to be applied.

With these concepts in mind, I am starting this section in my personal WP page for terms (jargon words/phrases) to consider for inclusion in the Article. Feel free to visit here and comment, add, question and discuss. [I realize this list could go into "Talk" for 'Jargon_of_The_Rush_Limbaugh_Show', but this way is less formal and less distracting to major editors.]

"I know these Liberals better than they know themselves."
"I love to tweak Liberals in Drive-by Media."
"Ascendancy of Conservatism!"
"Talent on loan from God-d; you, also, have talent on loan."
"Brevity is the soul of wit."
With ad-breaks coming, both Rush and callers need to be succinct—it is wittier.
"Saying more in five seconds than {other talking-heads} say in a year."
There are many, many primary sources, over the 20 years.

The purpose in showing these example google-searches is to show how the terms have spread to other sources, originating from the jargon of the show. Most terms are coined by Rush Limbaugh, but some originate from callers or other broadcast media. It also shows the importance of these terms in understanding current politics and how Wikipedia can be used.

And here is one of my all-time favorites (finding a great, great secondary source) ::

"Four corners of deceit" (In 240,000 hits, Jargon_of_The_Rush_Limbaugh_Show is #18.)

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?pageId=117323

Ellis Washington in WorldNetDaily confirms and uses the Rush Limbaugh term for his article.

Keep in mind that Rush Limbaugh started this term and now a quarter of a million sources refer to those exact words. Further, realize that most of them are not worthy to be an acceptable secondary WP source.

Additional Aspects on Jargon-Article

Weekend Writing—developing. Feel free to comment now/here, or later.
First, let me say I am grateful for what I have learned from senior editors, Will Beback in particular.

Summary of Pros & Cons:

  • Cons:
    • 1) Not important.
    • 2) Not enough sourcing.
    • 3) Bad example to others.
    • 4) Could be reduced/merged.

  • Pros:
    • 1) Important to a group of us/readers/WP.
    • 2) Progress in sourcing continues.
    • 3) Good example of balancing good information.
    • 4) There is enough to keep separate; more to add.

Additional Considerations not yet discussed.

    • 1) Jargon article is more important to WP than Rush_Limbaugh page.
    • 2) Those not interested in developing Jargon-page could go elsewhere.
    • 3) Attract or repel new (Conservative) readers and potential editors?
    • 4) Why take diction from Minority and ignore attracting Majority?
    • 5) Example of what Rush said about Tiger Woods not endorsing Obama.
    • 6) Example of what Jimmy D. Wales really means about secondary sources.
    • 7) Is Rush’s jargon better jargon only if others copy him?
    • 8) What is the ideal criteria-set for inclusion? (Like a WillBeBack Q, FYI.)
    • 9) Whom do we serve? (WP, editors, readers.) How do we best serve?
    • 10) What is a good entry? “I know it when I see it and study it.”
    • 11) This is specific to one show and not radio/media in general.
    • 12) When a term spreads, that is an added bonus, not a requirement.

Comparison of size/balance

  • Pages in Rush_Limbaugh [ 18 ] // The Show [ 11 ] // Jargon [ 20 ]
  • Ref. . . in Rush Limbaugh [ 146 ] // The Show [ 24 ] // Jargon [ 188 ].

Spanx Article

You might want to see my feedback on the Spanx article on WP, I found an article about the founder of the company. Not trying to stir up any pot but wonder if any information from a talk show would fit in about SPANX in general. JasonHockeyGuy (talk) 05:36, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'll take a look and then I'll search RushLimbaugh.com to see. "Now, the Blakely story is a great story. I think it is. Very American. She invents a product. People wanted to buy it. There were no government handouts or no slush funds. There were no subsidies. Hillary actually could learn a lot from Sara Blakely." Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 14:28, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mitt Romney

There is currently a straw poll taking place here. Your input would be appreciated. — GabeMc (talk) 06:12, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

McGabe, Thanks for the invitation to vote on the haircutting incident. I vote 'OK' if the word 'crying' is taken out. Just delete one word which implies the blond hippie from California was a sniveling baby. His family says the account is not accurate. Thanks for asking, Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 12:31, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your input, I have now removed the word "crying" from the proposed text for the reasons you stated. — GabeMc (talk) 22:12, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wow! Thank You (from many). I was not totally expecting that, but appreciate it beyond belief. Thanks Again, Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 00:34, 4 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

JMP COI

Hi Charles. I have a financial COI with SAS Institute in that I'm working with them to improve articles they have a connection with following COI best practices. My approach to COI is that I offer contributed content, request factual corrections or discuss controversial issues in the same manner public relations professional do with news media, while respecting Wikipedia's autonomy by not directly editing articles I have a COI with as a rule of thumb.

I wanted to introduce myself, because I saw that you were the primary contributor to the JMP (statistical software) page. I'm working on some improvements like a version history, images, etc. for the JMP and John Sall pages and was wondering if you were interested in collaborating later on when I have drafts to share.

There's no obligation, but I try to seek out topic experts where I can, who are best equipped to evaluate neutrality at-a-glance due to their intimate familiarity with the topic. I also posted some suggested improvements on the SAS Institute Talk page that were previously reviewed by AlphaQuadrant, but he recently went on a Wiki-break just a few weeks or so before we were ready for a merge request. User:King4057 (EthicalWiki) 11:14, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I want to participate. Others on the sasCommunity.org Advisory Board include Don Henderson and [9] Howard Scheier who has worked on the SAS page in WP. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 14:28, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think you are too conservative; thanks for the links on COI — You are able to edit if you want to; just don't create new articles or be out of order — Reading the last paragraph in TALK of your second WP internal link shows I am correct (I believe), imho,Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 14:32, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You are correct. I avoid direct edits voluntarily as a conservative approach. Adding this image to the article would be considered a "non-controversial edit" and is universally allowed. On the other hand, even taking out the BI section in the draft SAS Institute page because I plan to implement market share numbers on the SAS (software) page would be open to critical interpretation. So I like to avoid ethical ambiguity or the possible appearance of impropriety by operating primarily through community collaboration. On that note, no editor is obligated to collaborate with me or edit on my behalf, so I merely ask humbly if editors are interested in working together out of their natural interest in the subject and in contributing to Wikipedia. User:King4057 (EthicalWiki) 21:26, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know their usernames on Wikipedia? We could always use more eyes and there are at least 5 or 6 SAS/JMP related articles, so I might wear you out if it's only us two. User:King4057 (EthicalWiki) 21:37, 26 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Could you send KirkLafler@cs.com an invitation? He has his own Wikipedia page and has presented about 700 SAS papers, plus workshops and training sessions. He and I co-author a lot and I mentioned your draft page project to him. We are both very pleased with the update directions and I noted it is a major project, like creating an eBook. TNKS, Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 21:46, 26 July 2012 (UTC) Cf: Kirk_paul_lafler — PS: We have high interest in 'social/business media' and have current presentations on these subjects. (ALso, I know others to contact.)[reply]
Ok, I pinged him. I'm also close to done with a draft John Sall article. I'm hoping to get an image and we're still stamping out a couple tweaks, but I would welcome your feedback and/or edits. I would ask not moving it into article-space yet, so I can keep editing it in the draft space, but I should be wrapped up on it soon. User:King4057 (EthicalWiki) 00:10, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Request for your participation

As a frequent editor of U.S. election-related articles, your participation in this discussion would be helpful and appreciated.--JayJasper (talk) 05:19, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the invite, Jay. I always respect your insights and WP editing. I'll have some time this evening, watching London 2012. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 14:16, 29 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

SAS Institute article proposed edit

User:COIDave has proposed a major rewrite of SAS Institute, proposing the draft at User:Analytics447/DRAFTSASInstitute. You commented positively on this at User talk:Analytics447/DRAFTSASInstitute. However I am not clear if you feel that this draft, as it now stands, is ready to replace the existing article in toto. Your views would be welcome, at my talk page or perhaps better at Talk:SAS Institute#Request edit, or of course, here. Thank you. DES (talk) 05:46, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I'll take a look at the major rewrite (with gratitude). Been busy preparing papers, posters, and a coder's corner 10-minute presentation for annual regional conferences, [10] Western States and [11] Midwest Regional, in particular. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 14:11, 22 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Charles. This is me - you'll have to forgive the username confusion. I made some changes to make my username anonymous (discussed here).
I wanted to let you know we also proposed a revised version on the Talk page of the John Sall article. I noticed you were the primary contributor to that article as well and would love any feedback. COIDave (talk) 16:27, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I'll find some time after I get over to Minnesota MN to teach a JMP class at MWSUG. In regards to my editing SAS/JMP articles in Wikipedia, I am a fan and jump in when I see a void; it is great to see word-smithing of missing information at your professional level—truly a welcome change that will benefit to all WP readers. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 09:40, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome! I always tell people that companies that are "good" are easy to do Wiki-consulting for, because a "neutral" article reflects positively on them. The struggle on Wikipedia is that only a customer or subject-matter expert can easily determine if an article offered by a COI is a reasonably fair portrayal of the subject.
Whenever you do get a chance, the request edit instructions may be useful. I've contributed heavily to the request edit templates and instructions myself. You can add an "A" "G" "P" or "D" (Implemented, approved, partial or declined) to the request edit, as well as make any changes boldly as you see fit. COIDave (talk) 17:34, 12 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Charles. I asked for help in the IRC channel on the SAS and John Sall articles. They suggested if I have waited a reasonable amount of time, I should go ahead and make the edits. I wanted to make sure you felt ok about them first. COIDave (talk) 19:34, 11 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bush

I've removed your commentary on the Gulf War and 9/11 from Talk:George W. Bush as a violation of WP:NOTFORUM. Please confine your comments to article improvement. Acroterion (talk) 16:10, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

[Reply] As Liberals who are Wikipedia editors attack a good USA president, they reveal more about themselves than past-president George W. Bush, a good man. Here is what I wrote that was removed from "Alleged War Crimes, and Crimes Against Humanity" [George W. Bush].

It IS about Saddam Hussein and here is why: He illegally started the first Gulf War and was prevented from taking over Kuwait by USA. Ten years later, Jihadists murdered 3,000 in NYC WTC on 9/11. This was an act of war from radical Jihad, trying to draw their perceived enemy, 'the big satan' into war so they could see the Twelfth Imam come out of the well. It was not their first attack against America, as you must know. Attacked in war on their homeland, America did not enter the war immediately, but sought cooperation of 30 other nations. The will of the American people was to enter this war and was about to, but Democrats wanted another debate and vote so they could jump on board. It was a longer-term strategic decision by intelligence to take down Saddam Hussein who was murdering his citizens and strike at Jihad in their territory rather than wait for them to attack our homeland again. Where is the crime in this? The crime would have been to allow Saddam Hussein to continue his madness. George Bush lead America (after careful prayer and guidance from the Catholic Church, the LDS Church, and others.) Millions of lives were saved, In Iraq, In America, Kuwait, to prevent the expansion of Jihad against non-Sharia nations. The only basis in logic to say that USA (Bush) acted illegally would be to say we should have waited for the United Nations to take action. No, the only war criminals are the Jihadists! Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 16:05, 4 December 2012 (UTC) PS: Review Timeline_of_the_Gulf_War.[reply]

I've found that it's generally more productive to discuss this sort of issue in terms of Wikipedia policy, rather than trying to figure out where other editors are coming from: it avoids a lot of finger-pointing and off-topic diversions. Everybody's entitled to their opinion, but steady reference to WP policy keeps the talkpage from turning into a debating forum and keeps political arguments at bay. Acroterion (talk) 16:42, 4 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

JMP

Hi Charles. I proposed a re-write of the JMP article on the Talk page and wanted to invite you to comment, make sure we haven't removed valuable information you contributed in the original, or make other improvements. My conflict of interest is less relevant here, because our proposed is less promotional than the current, but it may also help to have someone with domain expertise if someone doubts the credibility of niche sources like James Taylor.

Your thoughts are welcome, though if you don't have time, that's ok too! Cheers! CorporateM (Talk) 14:42, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

'C.M.', I'll be pleased to take a look. Dr Sall and I go way back and received my first training in a Los Angeles class taught by Dr Goodnight, John Sall, and Kathy Council in 1982. Great times! I'm mentioned in the first edition of the first JMP manual, and presented the first paper on what I called the SDE, Standard Deviation Ellipse. [12] Also, as it is "The International Year of Statistics", I'm thinking of editing the Wikipedia page on 'Statistics' and relating WP articles.

Here is something I wrote this morning for the daily note I send out:

[ED: 2013 is “The International Year of Statistics” (as a science)] … “The growing importance of statistical analysis is set to be a theme of next year, too, with more than 150 professional organizations worldwide, including the American Statistical Association, designating 2013 as the International Year of Statistics.” … http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887324669104578206201895302728.html?mod=WSJ_hp_editorsPicks_3

ED: I’m on the advisory board of sasCommunity.org and edit in Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistics See also SAS.com and JMP.com ,
This includes statistical graphics, predictive models, and reporting stats. Some coin the term ‘Big Data’ and count on statistics to see meaning.

ED: I have a very special interest in ‘statistical graphics’ and ‘ellipses’ ! http://www.google.com/search?q=statistical+graphics&hl=en&tbo=u&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=JZPhUMaBH4nS2QXkmYGIBw&ved=0CFIQsAQ&biw=1130&bih=790

You bet! SAS/JMP told me you were involved in the SAS customer Wiki community and an expert on all things SAS/JMP. I think if I understand things correctly (I could be wrong) they do not participate on that Wiki.
Having a topic-expert involved is a huge asset on Wikipedia. Subject experts know what a fair article looks like, what sources are good for the topic at-hand, and so on. I actually noticed your name listed as an author on one of the conference papers I cited to fill out JMP's version history.
Anyways, a second draft is now posted on the Talk page incorporating the feedback we got and you're welcome to comment and/or boldly merge to article-space if you feel it's an improvement over the current. CorporateM (Talk) 14:21, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'll take a look. My reputation exceeds my expertise, but I'm a fairly good writer, with effort. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 15:33, 16 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

1. Her personal story of taking a child to SLC Children’s Hospital; Eternal families. 2. Comprehend God’s true church and gifts, including door to Eternal Life. 3. The New and Everlasting Covenant of Marriage. 4. Received additional scriptures; Book of Mormon is 2nd witness of Christ. WE have knowledge of Christ/Atonement: do we believe? And have Hope?

Christopher Waddell {[(Sister Stansel’s son-in-law)]}
Sorrow Comes to All—Think of Jesus Christ
1. A young primary boy said, “Sometimes it is hard to just think about Jesus.” 2. Not every approaching storm will change course; find peace anyway. 3. Jesus Christ, “In me ye have peace.” Learn of me, Listen, Walk w/me. 4. Inconsolable mom, pain of young son passing, BIC, understands now w/grateful tears. 5. Go to the House of the Lord, Feel my Spirit, learn peace. 6. Book of Mormon, Tree of Life, mocking from prideful building: some are dissuaded and fall. 7. Others taste the fruit, then continue to partake of the fruit, and ignore the mockers. 8. Stand in holy places, not to be moved. “Keep the Commandments; in this there is peace!” 9. Apply healing power! Beyond believing, ACT!! Hymn: “Rejoice, the Lord is King!”

Todd Christopherson
Fathers—In the Divine Plan
1. There is a book by David Blankenhorn, Fatherless America, talks about problems in the world. 2. Fathers preside with love and support, equal partners with mothers. 3. Families are more than a social construct—they are ordained by a Father in Heaven. 4. With love, Heavenly Father gave us his Son, Jesus Christ. Teach children, reading scriptures. 5. To Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdrey: the cause of your afflictions is not teaching your children. 6. With the family, work, listen, play. As needed, use love in tender corrections. No quarrelling. 7. Bread-winning is a consecrated activity. Some can be the first proper father, for generations. Beyond electronics, interact and find joy in your children walking in righteousness. Think of others.

The Plan of Salvation rolls forth in our time, with TEMPLES
1. Temples have grown from 150 to 154 to next 177, elders were excited, jumping on beds. 2. See yourself in the Temple—a sacred and holy place and time. 3. OT Obadiah and NT 1st Peter talk about “Saviors on Mount Zion”. Ours is a blessed time in history. 4. DC 97:17 talks about “His Glory will rest upon the Temples.” Families organized only in Temples. 5. Consider the facing mirrors in the Temple sealing rooms, reminding of generations. 6. With temple work, never underestimate the assistance you receive in the Temple. 7. The Prophet laid the cornerstone even though the worst tornado in history came to Fiji Islands. 8. Honor the Savior by being seated in the Temple and then you claim the blessings.

President Uchtdorf
New Life from Ashes—Refugees
1. Haunting memories, coming from East Germany to West Germany, splitting up to come across. 2. Pictures before and after the bombing/rebuilding of Dresden Germany, for 70 yrs hopeless. 3. The Gospel joyous news is that you can be heir to Eternal Life (and Glory). 4. The Good Shephard sought the one lost sheep; we help; the one sheep can help also. 5. He knows when you are lost and He knows where you are. What matters is that you are His child. 6. Start with Hope, and then Belief will come. “The steps of Faith, we call Obedience.” 7. “There is nothing good, unless you do it.” Obedience gathers Light into our souls. Discover this! 8. Learn of the divine spirit matter that truly makes you. Destiny: turn to God and miracles happen. 9. His Plan is to rebuild us (like Dresden) into something even better.

Holy Ghost: One in Purpose with the Father and the Son
1. The presence, gift of the Holy Ghost is different and above the Spirit of Christ. 2. The Holy Ghost teaches good, helps knowledge and guidance; brings to remembrance, sanctifies. 3. Righteousness allows us to avoid false prophets. Coed to false lover: “When I have same dream.” 4. James 1:5 Joseph Smith asked, after being prompted by the Holy Ghost. 5. This lead to the Book of Mormon, Priesthood and Church restoration, and Gospel restoration.

7. You, also, can follow the pattern to be led by the Holy Ghost; teach your children and others.

Gerrit Gong (Chinese-roots, a great, great talk)
Covenant to remember Him
1. How large is our mission? 3.6billion people, which is half of the world’s population. 2. “We’ll Sing All Hail to Jesus’ Name” Have confidence in His commandments. He remembers and honors those who keep his commandments. He honors the nations that honor Him. 3. Acknowledge His hand in all things. [Remember Isaac Newton praising the Creator.] 4. Remember, knowing that when He forgives us, guilt is swept away. 5. Life is not always as cruel as it might sometimes seem. Now is the time to ask forgiveness. 6. Pray with real intent—study the Book of Mormon. 7. Sabbath/Sacrament. 8. Amulek pray over. 7. Remember Him, as he always remembers us. There were nail prints, for remembrance. “They may forget, but I will not forget.”

Next is the talk/subject after which President Uchtdorf could barely speak: Patrick Kearon
60million Refugees—half are children
1. 1.25million are from the Middle East and Africa; many are well educated. We don’t have to look far. 2. Gov’t, religious, secular agencies (75 orgns in 17 countries) Not talking to policies! 3. “What if their story was my story?” Focus on the people, not the political policies. 4. The Savior, Jesus Christ, and his family were refugees fleeing to Egypt from Bethlehem. 5. Love as He loves; love your neighbor as yourself. 6. Administer to the poor and needy. 7. With resettlement, they need food, clothing, shelter, jobs, and help learning a new language. 8. They fled in terror from Turkey to Greece, and it even hard to imagine, unless seen. 9. Both in and out of the Church, Alma sent no one away. We should emulate. Take a stand against intolerance. [ED: and compare www.MuslimReformMovement.com]

Choir: “Guide Us, O Thou Great Jehovah”

Dallin H. Oaks
Eternal Progress requires Opposition
1. We progress by choosing between alternate choices, good paths and [bad paths.] 2. The Savior’s suffering pays the price; we accept the gift when we repent and live the Gospel. 3. Agency, enticed by good or bad; consider the Garden of Eden and the choices there. 4. Opposition (and Agency) is central to the Plan. 5. 2/3 vs 1/3 who are unembodied spirits. 6. The Evil One actually facilitates the Father’s Plan. 7. Tree of Life is sweet; Tree of Good and Evil was bitter. 8. All are tested w/personal sin. Move on. 8. Hard challenges bring the refining fire. Endure! Be not at ease in Zion. 9. Especially in the Church there need be no ‘loyal opposition’. We have a true prophet. In the context of the Great Plan of Salvation, the gift from Father is the Atonement and Jesus Christ.

Kent Richards
We Need Temples—Power in Ordinances
1. Keys of the Holy Priesthood ordained the power of godliness manifest. Nephi saw our day. 2. Endowed with power of God descending. Feel blessings in our own lives—help ancestors. 3. Your family can schedule priority family time in the temple baptistry. Personal responsibility. 4. Patrons and workers, such steps and courage: as thought the whole world rests upon us. 5. Serving mornings, days, and evenings, there are worldwide 120,000 ordinance workers. 6. In addition to tried and true workers, younger men and women can also benefit in service. 7. These days, before going to the mission home, bless ancestors with research and ordinances. 8. What greater call than the eternal salvation of souls? Communion of angels given to you. 9. Priceless angels arranged in white—you are they. Thank You! They will greet you.

Paul Johnson
Healed and Whole in the Afterlife
1. Someday, realized. On Easter, we focus on the Resurrection. Immortal bodies. 2. With Christ’s resurrection, there is total victory over the grave. Hundreds saw Him. 3. The resurrected Jesus Christ also visited disciples in ancient America. Hundreds saw him. 4. Live for the happy day. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

Jeffrey R. Holland
Conference conclusion ED: President Monson usually concludes, but instead has Elder Holland speak last. He does not disappoint, reminding us to remember inspired messages through coming days.
We want to hold fast—after heavenly moments, we return to the world. We have had ten hours of conference addresses. Moses came down the mountain from speaking with Jehovah to the Israelites and the golden calf, in the very hour. Jesus took Peter, James and John up the Mount of Transfiguration, and later was denied. Christ said to others, “O faithless generation: how long must I suffer you?” We can realize our limitations and buoy up. The great thing about God is we get credit for trying. “Those that seeketh so to do are also blessed.” The Lord blesses those who want to improve. The Savior is there to bless. Do not deny to others, judge righteously. Love God with all your heart, might, mind, and strength. Truth: God loves us with heart, mind, and strength. Christ is the foundation of daily life in the Gospel. With majestic devotion from Heaven, we can avoid obstacles. Why? Because He wants blessing to come to us, bringing improvements. Heaven is cheering you on. From the Old Testament, Joshua: “Sanctify yourselves. Tomorrow, God will do wonders among you.”

We all will die but it is temporary because of Jesus Christ. 4. Jesus owed no debt to Justice and so could pay for our sins. 5. Our burdens are lighter when we truly behold the man. Be His disciple.

Jesus Christ, the son of God, achieved Victory over sin and death: Behold the man.

Gerald Causse
What kind of people are you Mormons?
1. The mayor was wise to accept the building of a new temple after finding out. 2. The name “The Church of Jesus Christ” binds to “of Latter-day Saints”. 3. Are we active in the Gospel, or are we merely ‘busy’ in the Church? 4. The Church is more than buildings throughout the world.

Christ and his example can be in every home.

Quentin L. Cook
Divine Temple Manifestations
1. April 3, 1936, ancient prophets restored keys of temple work and Gathering. 2. The Abrahamic Covenant keys were restored. Sealing power also restored. 3. Three executive councils direct the work throughout the Church. 4. The new Ministering Program will prepare families for the 2nd Coming. 5. Family History has increased recently; none are exempt from responsibility. 6. Continue missionary work; family history and temple work; prepare personally. 7. Observe chastity, respect, and family support. Wickedness isn’t happiness. 8. Contention is not of God. There is but one culture of Jesus Christ’s Gospel.

The core membership of the Church has never been stronger. Be thankful.

President Russell M. Nelson
Closing Remarks
1. The music has been beautiful and uplifting; the messages life-changing. 2. Eight new general authorities have been called, two new Apostles. 3. In the fight for right, let us wield the mighty sword of Truth… 4. Offer your service with gratitude and love. Serve in a holier way. 5. Our message to the world is simple and sincere: We invite all on Earth on both sides of the veil to receive temple blessings in the House of the Lord. We have 159 temples and are adding seven more: Salta, Argentina; Bengaluru, India; Managua, Nicaragua; Cagaya de Oro, Philippines; Layton, Utah; Richmond, VA; and Russia (a "major city" yet to be determined). 6. With the temples around the world, your time in the temple surely will increase. Enjoy your time in the temple and with FamilySearch.org. [Read the Ensign for direct quotes.]

I express my love for each of you, in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
