Dear Ipigott, I continue working on a series of articles about influential women. However, my recent article about the notable emotional intelligence coach, Svetlana Whitener, has been moved to draft space. Could you kindly review it and consider recommending its move to the main space? This article is not an orphan; Svetlana was referred on the European Mentoring and Coaching Council page. Thank you for your time and consideration. Jacob0790 (talk) 04:34, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

:Jacob0790: I've looked carefully at the article. For a living person, the sources are not strong as they nearly all seem to be related to her involvement with Forbes (which is not considered reliable). The award for her company CTI seems useful but it dates back to 2010 and only appears without comment in a list. Perhaps you can find supporting coverage in the press. Overall you really need to find reliable independent sources in accordance with the advice in the WiR primer. The article also comes over as promotional. Let me know if you are able to improve on sourcing and I'll take another look. On the other hand, I really enjoyed reading your recent Joy (dog) which I've promoted to B class. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:22, 26 March 2024 (UTC)

::@Ipigott, thank you for your time and detailed review. Unfortunately, when someone writes an article about a living person, it's obvious it's because this individual has made notable contributions in a certain field. It's very challenging to describe these accomplishments without them being flagged as promotional. I will continue looking for the reliable sources. Thanks. Finally, a woman who works in category I know something about - I spent many days, years, fishing with grandpa (in freshwater ponds), I eat fish, but I'm no expert on their science. LOL If you have the time or inclination, could you give her a copyedit? SusunW (talk) 19:51, 27 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: I know absolutely nothing about fishing and have never been tempted to stand still for hours on end hoping to catch something. Very little to do on this one. I noticed you capitalized Deputy Director General but not director. I am not sure whether there is any guidance on this but I would not usually capitalize such titles unless they were used to designate an individual, e.g. Director General John Smith. On checking, e.g. Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Biography#Titles_of_people, I see this is also recommended for Wikipedia.--Ipigott (talk) 07:48, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The point of fishing with grandpa is that it was always productive (i.e. pond hopping) and he told stories. I could listen to him for hours. He had this keyring that was a big as his fist (the size of a grapefruit, really huge) that opened every farm field gate in the county. He literally stocked every single pond for miles around in exchange for a key. We always came home with a huge haul because if they weren't biting, we'd just hop to another pond. I was very fortunate, he lived until I was 46, so I got to hear tons of stories and he was a fabulous story teller. Thanks for your help. I appreciate you very much. SusunW (talk) 14:30, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
My grandpa used to tell stories for hours on end too but they were sadly often about his experiences in Flanders in the First World War where he lost a lung from mustard gas and was sent back home. He had an amazing memory for literature and could remember all the details of Dickens' novels, often quoting large chunks verbatim. I remember reading The Pickwick Papers when I was ten or eleven, just to be able to follow what he was talking about. Your fishing experiences seem to have been far more rewarding and you were lucky your grandpa lived so long. Thanks for introducing me to the interesting concept of "pond hopping".--Ipigott (talk) 15:03, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from PrimalBeingToken (13:04, 4 March 2024)

Hi, I'm new to Wikipedia and would like to create a new article. I've seen the suggestions that I should make smaller edits first, but for various reasons I would like to go straight to creating a new one. I am a volunteer at the Portuguese nonprofit organisation Batoto Yetu, which has a Portuguese Wikipedia article. I would like my first artcle to be an English version of that. How would I go about this process? I've done some prior reading before creating my account, then the website assigned me a mentor so I figured you could give me some useful pointers. --PrimalBeingToken (talk) 13:04, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 • Hi there, PrimalBeingToken, and welcome to Wikipedia. In my message on your talk page, you'll find links to guidance on how to edit on the English Wikipedia. I note your interest in translating Batoto Yetu into English but I must first warn you that it is considerably more difficult to create articles in English than in Portuguese. Furthermore, it is not recommended that people closely associated with an organization should create an article about it. Nevertheless, if you really want to go ahead, it is important for your article to be based on reliable secondary sources, i.e. sources not related to the organization itself. Unfortunately, the Portuguese article is completely unsourced and a translation would not be accepted on the English wiki. As new articles should based on at least three secondary sources, you may be able to put something together on the basis of sources such as "The African roots of fado and “Preta Fernanda”: the stories of Africa in Lisbon discovered by Batoto Yetu", Highlighting African communities in Lisbon and "Lisbon (finally) inaugurated street signs that tell its African history". In any case, I suggest you start with a fairly short well-sourced article, presenting the essentials. Once it has been found acceptable, it can always be expanded. You'll find more guidance at Help:Your first article. If you decide to proceed along these lines, please let me know when you think you have created an acceptable first draft and I'll provide feedback. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 14:04, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again Ipigott, I hope you are well. I have drafted a page on Norma Gregory. I wonder if you might take a look at it? I have tried to find better categories this time. No hurry from my side. I know you are always much in demand! Balance person (talk) 15:57, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Original Barnstar
Hello, Ipigott! Your name has delighted my notifications countless times with new page reviews and article assessments, and browsing your userpage leaves me in awe of such a talented contributor. Here's a barnstar to say thank you for all your much-appreciated work! IgnatiusofLondon (talk) 15:52, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
 • Thank you very much, IgnatiusofLondon. You have really been doing a wonderful job yourself with all those interesting articles in connection with Rimini. I've just upgraded three more of them to B class. Once or twice a week, I take a look at new articles under WikiProject Italy. So I'll no doubt be coming across more of your creations in the coming weeks and months. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 17:56, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Slow going, but I think I finally scraped together enough sources to write the article. If you have the time and inclination, it could use a copyedit. I appreciate you. SusunW (talk) 19:21, 6 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: I'm no expert on tropical diseases but you seem to have done a pretty good job on this one. Always a pleasure to look through your articles although in this case there was not much to do. Looking forward to the next one.--Ipigott (talk) 12:02, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It is getting harder to find people in the chain that meet GNG source requirements for sure. When I started on her, the only 2 things I could find were the AFWST report and the list of members of the academy of science. Days of searching her name finally changed the algorithms enough that I could scrape together sufficient material for an article. That marriage record, which confirmed her maiden name in the Cambridge records, was totally a lucky find. I genuinely appreciate your help. Next one is an Indian woman who has lived almost all of her life in Africa. SusunW (talk) 14:00, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I finished the next one. Deepa Pullanikkatil, if you want to give it a once over. No worries if you are too busy. SusunW (talk) 16:43, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
SusunW: Been though it pretty quickly. Not many changes.--Ipigott (talk) 17:07, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks you @Ipigott for your kind words! In my view, there are many more women's articles. Who had done a lot of good work for the society and the country. I will also make article on all of them under Wikiproject Women in Red. Youknowwhoistheman (talk) 12:32, 7 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Newpagesfeed

Hello @Ipigott, hope you are fine.

I am a little confused about my contributions to Wikipedia. I contribute mostly to NewPagesFeed. Now, whatever article comes in Newpagesfeed, I try to improve that article. But many times those articles are created by sockpuppets, so when Checkuser investigates, they also doubt on me. What should be the solution for this? Is there any problem for me with this? And I think most of the people contribute from Newpagesfeed only. Thanks Youknowwhoistheman (talk) 16:21, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Youknowwhoistheman: I'm happy to see you have been trying to improve some of the articles you find in New Pages Feed. I'm surprised to see you have unintentionally been editing some created by socks. Unless you have received any warnings, I don't think you should worry too much about this. In future you should perhaps concentrate on improving articles created by well established editors. Let me know if you face any specific problems in this connection.--Ipigott (talk) 16:42, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you @Ipigott, in future I only concentrate on improving articles created by well-established editors. once again thank you for your time. Youknowwhoistheman (talk) 19:20, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Mariamne (Q10326261) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Fram (talk) 13:26, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This should be deleted. The article is at Mariamne (1st century).--Ipigott (talk) 13:30, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alison Heydari

Hello again! I have attempted a short page on Alison Heydari If you had time, could you say if you think it is enough to qualify? Thank you if you can. It is very short but she is pretty unusual. Balance person (talk) 18:11, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Balance person: You've done a pretty good job on this and moved it successfully to article space. I changed her various job titles to lower case as upper case is only used in conjunction with a person's name, e.g. Director General Joan Doe. See MOS:PEOPLETITLES. It's good to see you have also made progress with categories. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 09:37, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the lower case tip. I will note that for the future. Balance person (talk) 21:59, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Query re process

Dear Ipigott, A query! Right from when I started drafting new pages, I have checked them with you to make sure they are good enough and you have kindly moved them to main space for me and done wiki data and all sorts to complete the process. I understand from hanging around the Tea Room that another way is to submit an article for consideration but it seems, as there are few admin checkers, that that process can take months to complete. You and another very experienced editor have encouraged me to move drafts to mainspace myself when I figure they are good enough. SO my query is this... if I do this, who checks to make sure the page is up to scratch? Are there new page patrolling admin editors? Do I have to contact them? Is it safer for biographies of marginalised people to be shepherded through by someone such as yourself who belongs to WiR or WiGreen or...? Are there any help pages on this? I am so happy discussing my draft pages with you but I know you are really busy so wonder if I can/should be more independent. Balance person (talk) 16:32, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Balance person: I check new pages almost every day, especially those in connection with women. As there are many other new page reviewers, your articles are unlikely to go unnoticed. See Wikipedia:New pages patrol. If somehow your new page is missed or you need further assistance, you can always let me know.--Ipigott (talk) 06:38, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! That is great, thanks. I always wondered how it all happened. So I will try to move Alison Heydari and hope that you spot her! Balance person (talk) 08:59, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yay! It worked. Thank you! Balance person (talk) 09:19, 13 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Table

Hey @Ipigott, Hope you are doing well!

How to update a table? in Wikipedia?

Actually I want to update Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediapersons article, but I am facing problem in making the table, recently 2 women journalists have won this award. Thanks you. Youknowwhoistheman (talk) 12:42, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Youknowwhoistheman: I suggest you just look carefully at how the table has been set up in edit mode and then try to add the two new prizewinners. If you really can't manage it yourself, please let me know.--Ipigott (talk) 14:10, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay Thanks @Ipigott, I'll try. Youknowwhoistheman (talk) 14:15, 14 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @Ipigott, kindly update this article Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Women Mediapersons. Youknowwhoistheman (talk) 14:23, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page watcher) The answer to "How to update a table" is "Take a deep breath, look at the code for the existing lines of the table, and add similar new lines. Use Page Preview. If it's gone horribly wrong, try something slightly different. If no success at all, use Cancel." Have you had a go?
But I see that here the person who added the last year, 2022, didn't format it quite right either! I'll have a go at adding 2024 - have you got a source anywhere for 2023, which is missing? PamD 19:08, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
OK, that was a nice little rabbit hole to fall into: the answer to the missing 2023 award turns out to be that they've changed their system, so the 2022 award was made in 2023, but in 2024 they made the 2024 award - reported so in several sources! I've added a note to clarify.
Updating the table perfectly took several steps, as this was a year of two recipients, only one of whom had a credit for the "Associated Media House" column, but by taking it a step at a time, and copying the format of existing examples, I got there. (I don't do a lot with tables but enjoy the challenge of getting them right.) PamD 19:36, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I now notice it's a "Featured list", so it's disappointing that no-one had noticed the careless update for 2022. The list would also probably be better if individual recipients appeared on their own lines (with the date spanning the two or more lines), so that the list could be sorted on the surnames of all recipients, not just the first-named for each year. But I don't feel interested enough in it to put in the work to make that change. PamD 19:40, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for all your efforts, PamD. I'm afraid I simply did not have the patience to look into it.--Ipigott (talk) 15:23, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ian, thought it important to mark your creation of Elisabeth Söderberg... your 24th article in our year long Women in Education editathon. It also has to be noted that someone I know has run 300 editathons... amazing. This ethereal barnstar comes with a thick layer of virtual silver plating and thoughtful polishing. Thank you, Roger. It was something of a challenge to find 24 Scandinavians who were not only notable in education but also had images available either already on Commons or suitable for uploading. I see you designed the medal yourself - quite a craftsman! And don't forget to award yourself the bronze when you reach 24.--Ipigott (talk) 09:43, 15 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Arte about Swedish artist Peter Klingberg Geschwind

Dear Ian,

Like PrimalBeingToken I'm new too to Wikipedia and would like to create an article about Swedish artist Peter Klingberg Geschwind, who passed away in 2021 and who worked in Stockholm. I have a joint text with all necessary materials and chapters and code for it, but unfortunately my article was deleted. May I please ask you to help with this material? W.editor.a1 (talk) 12:46, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, W.editor.a1, and thanks for getting in touch. I see your page was deleted on the basis of copyright problems. When creating articles on Wikipedia, it is important to rewrite what you find in your own words. On the basis of this obituary, Peter Geschwind certainly deserves an article on the English Wikipedia. I see you drew on this site which also provides useful coverage. And there is also a link from SR. If you would like to create a new draft on the basis of these resources, I would be glad to help you along. Let me know how it goes. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 13:17, 19 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Ian, thank you, I have rewritten the text and would like to try posting it again. Can I ask for advice on what else I need to consider or should I do better in advance? W.editor.a1 (talk) 18:46, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
W.editor.a1: Please provide a link to the text. I can't see anything under your contributions.--Ipigott (talk) 20:43, 20 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Got it, could I please ask you to tell if this link works: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:W.editor.a1/sandbox W.editor.a1 (talk) 12:57, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
W.editor.a1: The link certainly works and much of the biography is quite well presented; but as you've run into copyright violations before, you need to be careful not to raise further problems. According to this analysis, the section on Shows is taken almost without modification from here, which in any case is too closely related to the subject. I suggest you rewrite the section, selecting a few key exhibitions rather than presenting a long list. If you wish, you can include the Peter Geschind source under External links. The other problem is that several paragraphs have no citations. It's important to include at least one reference in each paragraph, preferably at the end of the paragraph. I'm surprised you did not draw ofn this site which looks very reliable and contains many useful details. I suggest you now try to improve your draft along these lines and let me know when you would like me to look at it again.--Ipigott (talk) 16:14, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Geriatricians

assuming no one is in multiple nationalities, which I suspect we have at least one or two who are, there are 66 articles in the geriatricians tree. With that size I think we should eliminated all the categories. I think we should establish a bare minimum size at which we will split by nationality an occupation. Specifically an occupation that is a tertiary sub-cat of scientists. I think we should bite the bullet and place everyone a rung up and group all geriatricians in one category.John Pack Lambert (talk) 03:13, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Johnpacklambert: I am no expert on categories but I see that geriatrics is a rapidly growing profession. In the United States alone, I see from here there are today some 7,300 practicing geriatricians. We can certainly expect articles in these categories to grow over time, especially if we have a drive on improving coverage of medical specialists.--Ipigott (talk) 06:29, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Number 22. The chain is longer than I thought possible. If you have the inclination, it could benefit from a copyedit. Thanks! SusunW (talk) 18:01, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SusunW: Hardly anything to do on this one. I took out "from her" in "Musyimi-Ogana pledged the support of people and resources from her to assist them" but perhaps you meant to say "from her native Kenya".--Ipigott (talk) 12:15, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It was supposed to say from her department. But I am not sure if that is necessary. Thank you so much for your help. I appreciate it very much. SusunW (talk) 14:22, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

2024 United Arab Emirates Women's Quadrangular Series

Hello, you recently classified 2024 United Arab Emirates Women's Quadrangular Series page as a list-class, whereas it is an article about a tournament to be held in April. Can you explain how it got classified as list-class? Thanks in advance. Cric editor (talk) 15:19, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for contacting me on this, Cric editor. It's always useful to receive feedback. As the article is mainly devoted to various listings rather than descriptive text, I thought List would be more appropriate than Stub. If you look through Category:List-Class Women's sport articles you will see that a considerable number of tournaments are also classed as lists. I have nevertheless looked into quite a number of cricket tournament articles and have not found any others classed as List. I have therefore changed the class to Stub and will try to remember to avoid List on other articles about cricket tournaments. If you come across inappropriate classes, you are of course always free to change them yourself. But please let me know if you encounter any other cases where you think I have chosen the wrong class. (While I was looking into this, I also took the opportunity to process several of your other articles awaiting assessment.) Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 15:56, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your reply, it was just first time I encountered such case, so I was curious to know. And also, thanks alot for reviewing my other articles. Cric editor (talk) 16:18, 23 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, what should we do now to get this draft as an accepted article? I also need to link this on The NEXT Museum page. Thank you again for your amazing help on the Electronic Literature Wikipedia project!!! LoveElectronicLiterature (talk) 17:39, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@LoveElectronicLiterature: Now in mainspace but you need to add more citations. Many statements appear to be unsourced. Maybe you can use the sources already mentioned, just making sure that no paragraphs are without a citation. In general, it's a good idea to make sure there's a citation at the end of each paragraph. I'll check it again tomorrow. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 17:58, 24 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Jacob0790 (talk) 04:34, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jacob0790:: I've looked carefully at the article. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 07:22, 26 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ipigott, thank you for your time and detailed review. Unfortunately, when someone writes an article about a living person, it's obvious it's because this individual has made notable contributions in a certain field. It's very challenging to describe these accomplishments without them being flagged as promotional. I will continue looking for the reliable sources. Thanks.
