The preceding and following sentences now also go together more smoothly in topic, both being related to whale biology rather than music theory. undo Tags: Mobile edit Mobile web edit
  • curprev 07:3607:36, 10 October 2023Eliahavah talk contribs 17,567 bytes +16 →‎Characteristics: For whatever reason, whoever created the audio file in this article did not raise the pitch by an integer number of octaves – IE a factor of 2, 4, 8, or 16; but instead by a factor of 10. Therefore the note has been changed from G#: in conventional A440 tuning, log(520/440)/log(2)+4 ≈ 5–9/12, or C_5. Added parenthetical note name to the caption, to clarify to the reader that the note has been changed from the whale's true singing note, to a different note. undo Tags: Mobile edit Mobile web edit

In the conventional A440 tuning system, log(52/440)/log(2)+4 ≈ 1–1/12, meaning one half-step below A_1, meaning G#_1. This is 11 half-steps above the lowest key on a piano keyboard, A_0; or 4 half-steps above the lowest string on a double bass, E_1. undo Tags: Mobile edit Mobile web edit
