The 1999 Italian local elections were held on 13 June and 27 June.[1]
In Sicily the elections were also held on November 28 (first round) and December 12 (second round).
In Trentino-Alto Adige the elections were held on May 16 (first round) and May 30 (second round).
The elections were won by the new centre-left coalition between the Democrats of the Left, led by Massimo D'Alema and the Italian People's Party (allied in The Olive Tree coalition).
However the election saw the return on the scene of the former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and of his centre-right coalition.
