Rupali Ganguly (born 5 April 1977) is an Indian actress primarily known for her work in television and theatre. She played Dr. Simran Chopra in the STAR Plus serial Sanjivani and later, played Monisha Sarabhai in Sarabhai VS Sarabhai. She was a contestant in the reality show, Bigg Boss, in 2006.[1][2] She is currently playing the titular lead role in the television series Anupamaa on Star Plus.
Early life
Rupali Ganguly was born on 5 April 1977 in Calcutta, (present-day Kolkata), West Bengal into a Bengali Hindu family. Her father Anil Ganguly was a director and screenwriter and her brother Vijay Ganguly is an actor-producer.[3] She studied Hotel management and theatre, before being chosen for the lead role in a television show, Sukanya.[4]
Personal life
Ganguly married Ashwin K Verma on 6 February 2013.[5] They have a son, Rudransh.[6]
Career
Her first acting assignment, at the age of 7, was the film Saaheb (1985), followed by a part in her father's film, Balidan. She made her television debut in Sukanya in 2000, and has also appeared in Sanjivani and Bhabhi.
In 2003, she was selected for a part in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, in which she played Monisha. In Ekta Kapoor's Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, she played the character Gayatri.[7] In 2006, she participated in the reality show, Bigg Boss, in its first season.[8][9] In 2008, she participated in the reality show, Zara Nachke Dikha, along with Karishma Tanna, Jennifer Winget & Mouni Roy.[10]
In 2009, she participated in Colors TV's stunt/dare reality game show, Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 2 (2009).[11] She also gave voice over in an animation film, Dashavatar (2008)[12]
In 2000, she established an advertising agency in Mumbai.[3] She has been a regular anchor of Bioscope, a film-based TV show telecast on the national channel of Doordarshan.
