Xiangtan University (XTU; simplified Chinese: 湘潭大学; traditional Chinese: 湘潭大學; pinyin: Xiāngtán Dàxué) is a university located in Xiangtan, Hunan, China. It was founded in 1958 and is organized into 22 schools and departments.

History

In 1958, under the proposal of Chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China Mao Zedong."I want to run a university in my hometown". Xiangtan University was founded in the Xiangtan County Yangjiaqiao Xiangjiang Coal Mine site.[4] The preparatory committee of Xiangtan University, composed of Wang Sanming, Zhang Shulong and Ma Zhiliang, is responsible for daily work by Ma Shaohu and Liu Rixin.
