Santos produced this film. She won "Best Actress" in Tanglaw and Pasado Awards in an Indie Film. It also became the official entry of the Philippines for the Best Foreign Language Film category to the 2009 Academy Awards .[93] Though she is signed under ABS-CBN , the promotions for Ploning were done through GMA Network and GMA Films .[94] The movie was also shown in Palm Springs International Film Festival and 10th Newport Beach Film Festival in Palm Springs and Newport in California respectively.[95] [96] It was also shown in 6th Paris Cinema International Film Festival ,[97] Hong Kong Asian Independent Film Festival, 39th International Film Festival of India and Asian Festival of First Films in Singapore.[98] It also garnered a total of 23 awards from all over the world.[99]
