List of missions
Race missions
These missions are the main feature of Running Man, which involves racing to complete a mission first or chasing each other to eliminate the other team in a landmark.
- Bells Hide and Seek (방울 숨바꼭질) [Episodes 7–25,76,84,85,104,115,169,171,172,208,242] - Bells Hide and Seek is a shortened version of the race mission. A "chasing" team wearing bells must catch the "mission" team by taking their name tags from their backs in an allotted time. The "mission" team will need to find hidden items in the landmark and not be caught by the "chasing" team before the allotted time ends.[2] In episode 76, the mission is unknown to the members and the guests act as the Chasing Team. The guests are to recruit two members to become spies (who are to be eliminated as well).[3] The members believe they just need to complete missions (Buying items from certain people and playing Hol-jjac) in time. The members arrive at the final mission venue and must find the four correct computers for hints and to eliminate the Chasing Team. In episode 84 and 85, one team had two more members than the other team and was given a handicap, by having two members tied together in paper handcuffs. This race was divided into two halves (two episodes), with both teams taking turns chasing.[4] One team received "new weapons". In episode 84, self-destruct name tags "Bang!", which eliminates the person who eliminated them. In episode 85, the Chasing Team received special rings, similar to the space controller power from Superpowers Best of the Best Match, which allows them to move members to a designated location after saying a spell together. In episode 104 and 115, the Mission Team and Chasing Team swap roles every fifteen minutes (ten in episode 115) until one team is eliminated.[5]
- Find the Guests (게스트를 찾아라) [Episode 26-28,30-38,43,44,46,57,101] - An upgraded version of Bells Hide and Seek, the "mission" team consists of the guests of that episode, who need to complete a series of missions in the landmark.
- Fan Signing Event (팬 싸인회) [Episode 37,106,165] - Before being allowed to start participating in the race, all the members are scattered in "remote" locations and must give out 30 autographs. They are only able to start finding the guest once all members have given their 30 autographs.[6] This mission was played again in episode 106, allowing members to continue on to the next mission.
Road races and themed races
These missions are variants of the race missions, which involve travelling through a city and between destinations to complete missions. Some episodes would feature special themes that form the race.

After getting a bingo, the final mission venue is revealed and the card is changed to a 4×4 card of numbers 1–16. To win, the team must complete a bingo by taking the number from the corresponding members back, thus eliminating them, and finding the four hidden numbers (13–16). Retributions include: a bunch of women creating a flash mob and chasing that member for one minute; all members paused and moved to a new destination; name tags between two members are switched (therefore if the name tag is removed, the owner of the name tag is eliminated, not the one with the name tag). The winning team chooses five of eight marble boxes, with the other team receiving the remaining three. Teams then travel to the final mission venue in 2012, and using the marbles collected, try to toss more marbles into a circle to win.[56]
- Making Kimchi For The Winter Race (김장 레이스) [Episode 123] - Three teams must obtain ingredients to make the best tasting kimchi. At the first mission venue (a farm), teams spin in elephant trunks then must run over stacks of hay in relay, making sure the hay is intact afterwards, then pull white radish out from the ground. The first placing team receives a food processor and knife set, second receives a vegetable shredder and knives, and third receives just knives. Teams travel to the next mission venue (a salon), one member of each team gets a perm while the other two members must complete a mission in three minutes. The first placing team receives an Internet chance, and second receives a telephone chance for recipes. Teams then travel to the next mission venue (a folk village), there teams must find (and steal) ten model Chinese cabbages (from each other) and place it in their home base. The first placing team receives shelled oysters and crushed garlic, second receives shelled oysters and peeled garlic, and third receives shelled oysters and unpeeled garlic. Teams then finally proceed to make the best kimchi in one hour. The members taste each other's kimchi unknowingly and vote for the best kimchi to win.[57]
- Choice Race (선택 레이스) [Episode 124] - As the second day in Jeonju, members must complete missions to make choices. The first part involves four choices between two Jeonju dishes. Successful completion of each mission will award the member with that dish as well as a stroke in the word "king" (王). The first member to receive all four strokes to form the word "king" and reach the final venue will become the king. There are no teams, members travel to their venue of choice individually. For Round 1: Jeonju Bibimbap vs. Kongnamul gukbap, those who choose bibimbap must jump from a pile of pillows to a pile of blankets without falling over; those who choose gukbap is covered in a blanket and must jump over pillows without the pillows falling over. For Round 2: Jeonju Baekban vs. Jeonju Hanjeongsik, those who choose baekban must eat different side dishes quickly in a designated order; those who choose hanjeongsik will have a choice of different dishes, and must act like they have not eaten a spicy dish if chosen. For Round 3: Maesaengi galbitang vs. Omogaritang, those who choose maesaengi galbitang will have to chop three firewood in succession (one for women); those who choose omogaritang must break through twelve roof tiles (eight for women). For Round 4: Jeonju Kalguksu vs. Patkalguksu, those who choose kalguksu randomly chooses one of ten plants, and must blow it across a line; those who choose patkalguksu randomly chooses one of ten grains or seeds, and must move twenty of them from one plate to another using chopsticks while saying "ssukdaemeori~" in one breath. All members then travel to the final mission venue, with the first arriving member becoming the king, who is invincible (cannot be eliminated). Only the king can eliminate others. However, the king must return to his palace every ten minutes to complete his duties. The other members are regular citizens and must find ballots in the venue, then use them to vote for a new king (a parody of Masquerade and the 2012 presidential election). When a member receives a majority, the race is paused and the king is changed. The last standing member will win.[58]
- Snowball Fight Race (눈싸움 레이스) [Episode 125] - Three teams must perform missions to earn snowballs and win the snowball fight. The first mission involves two members acting as Santa Claus and Rudolph, sliding down a hill on snow tubes then put stockings on Santa and grab the finish flag first to win in tournament style. The winning team for each mission receives four snowballs, and the second placing team receives two snowballs. Teams move to the next mission venue (an indoor pool) and play a game similar to Band Together to Live, where the members must stand on a balance beam in water, then each member must move from one end of the balance beam to the other end with all the members standing on it in one minute. Teams then move to the next mission venue (a restaurant), and choose a number for a seat for 31 Game. Starting from the person in seat one, one of ten dishes is chosen, and that person must eat at least one portion and can have up to five portions of it, then pass it to the next person, and so on and so forth. The person who eats the thirty-first portion is eliminated from the game. The next round begins with the person after the eliminated member, with another dish chosen. For a special round, I Came Alone is played instead. The game ends when one team is eliminated. Teams then proceed to the final mission, Snowball Fight. Each member puts on a Velcro loops jockey vest; the snowballs are made of Velcro hooks. Members who are hit by a snowball (the snowball must stick to the Velcro vest) are eliminated. Snowballs that have been thrown can be used by others. The last standing team will win.[59]
- Star Wars (별들의 전쟁) [Episode 126] - The members and guest must perform missions to earn seven stars to win. The guest, Choi Ji-woo, is designated as a spy and must eliminate all Running Man members. She also has an accomplice within the members (Haha), but must find out who that is during the final mission by earning stars. However, the members know of this and must pretend to not know of her spy mission, and prevent her from earning stars (similar to previous Challenge 1 vs. X missions). Members travel to the first mission venue (a beach), and must go through a set of tires, perform two forward rolls on a balance beam, then pass through a scoop net. The winner of each mission receives a star. Members travel to the next mission venue (Gamcheon Culture Village), and must answer quizzes based on Choi Ji-woo. The first correct answer earns seven Running Balls, and decreases by one each question. After seven questions, the lottery takes place and the member chosen receives a star. Members travel to the final mission venue (Busan-Gyeongnam Horse Racing Park), and must find and earn stars hidden in the building. The members must earn a star by performing a mission, then be eliminated by Choi Ji-woo, thus successfully fooling her. If she eliminates a member without a star, the Fool Choi Ji-woo mission will be revealed, and Choi Ji-woo will win.[60]

Notes
- ^ Lee Kwang-soo and Song Ji-hyo were recruited as spies by the Chasing Team, but were to be eliminated as well.
- ^ The correct computer eliminates one of the Chasing Team members and gives one of the four hints. The hints are all directed to the Turtle Ship, and once it is found, the entire Chasing Team will be eliminated.
- ^ Each person will be given a number. The number is based on the order they wake up in (2–12), while numbers 13–16 are to be found (IU was given the number 1). Once they have been eliminated, any extra numbers they have will be given to the team that took his or her name tag.
- ^ To eliminate the Mission Team, only Song Ji-hyo's name tag needed to be removed.
- ^ To find out who Charlie is, a cell phone number is placed behind each of the angels' name tags. Once all the numbers are collected and dialed, Charlie's identity will be revealed.
- ^ The mission before (Dry Sauna Room 3 Set Race) determined the type of name tags the members received (regular, with wings, huge wings).
- ^ The Chasing Team could be eliminated by tearing their name tag, or by completing the spy mission.
- ^ The package each person has is given to whoever that eliminated them.
- ^ Two Mission Team members have the self-destruct name tag, "Bang!", behind their nametag. The person that eliminates the member with the "Bang!" tag is eliminated as well.
- ^ a b Kim Jong-kook and Lee Kwang-soo are attached with a paper handcuff, acting as one person. Once the handcuff is broken, both of them will be eliminated.
- ^ The third race mission took place because the score was tied.
- ^ The mission before (Running Man Championships) determined the type of name tags the members received (regular, big, huge).
- ^ When a team member holding the team baton is eliminated, the entire team is eliminated.
- ^ Hints are hidden under the name tags; different types of name tags are used as punishment/reward.
- ^ When the "Genie's Lamp" is found, a "genie" could be summoned for an hour and can only eliminate one member in which the genie agreed to.
- ^ The final mission has no winners since the temperature in the location decreases, causing the fishes unable to be caught.
- ^ Members will be re-imprisoned if their name tag is sprayed; members will be sent to jail if they get caught by the guards.
- ^ With a total of four rounds, each round, the member with the most votes becomes the target to be eliminated. In the final round, the remaining members must eliminate each other.
- ^ The first couple to arrive receives a Reflection band.
- ^ Zombies except Gary cannot take off name tags (which turns the human into a zombie).
- ^ A zombie will be eliminated when their name tag is sprayed with a special solution.
- ^ The last placing team of the three missions before this race select a briefcase that contains one of their team member's name tag. These name tags can be found at the final venue and once found and taken off by the beast, that person will be remotely eliminated.
- ^ The Mission Team and Chasing Team swap roles every fifteen minutes until all members of the opposing team are eliminated.
- ^ Members can buy one extra name tag for ₩100,000 once.
- ^ Lee Kwang-soo has seven name tags that cannot be just taken off. The Mission Team (Supporting Characters) must find death scripts and act out scenes to be able to take one of Lee Kwang-soo's name tags. Gong Hyo-jin cannot be eliminated until Lee Kwang-soo is.
- ^ Magic water bottles can be found that are to be used to create items in the witch's house. These items may be to their advantange or disadvantage.
- ^ Each member chose a number, and a target is designated starting from the number nine, down to one. Once the target is eliminated, the next number down became the designated target. If the target eliminates a member, he/she will receive that member's number, causing the next number in line to become the target.
- ^ Two keys are required to open the treasure chest. Each team has one key hidden behind a team members name tag.
- ^ The members enter in the order of 1 to 12. The time interval for each entrance is five minutes. The other members could view the race through CCTVs.
- ^ Teams were divided into Red and Blue Team. After each mission, the winning team can switch out who they believe is X-man in their team.
- ^ The agents need to find the internal enemies within them and eliminate them, then prevent the safe explosion within the allotted time. The villains need to eliminate all agents, and prevent the safe explosion as well.
- ^ Members must be eliminated after earning a star to win. If a member without a star is eliminated, Choi Ji-woo will win.
