Willpattu Deforestation

Resettlement in the Kallaru forest had commenced in 2011 and 2012 under Northern Spring (Uthuru Wasanthaya) project under Minister Rishad Bathiudeen has strongly affected the forest area.[1] However Rishad Bathiudeen denied the allegations.[2] On 3 August 2018 the Court of Appeal dismissed an affidavit presented by Bathiudeen relating to the resettlement of Muslim IDPs in Wilpattu Forest Reserve.[3] The Court of Appeal ordered that the case be taken up for trial on 12 November 2018.
