PredecessorSEAT Leon ST

The SEAT Leon X-PERIENCE is a 4-wheel drive estate car produced by SEAT, a Spanish automobile manufacturer and member of the Volkswagen Group. It is the latest addition to the SEAT Leon family, SEAT’s range of sporty hatchbacks. The first model will be released by SEAT in autumn 2014 at the Paris Motor Show.

Design

The newest member of the Leon family follows the basic design language established by the rest of the range, but adds design and technology features that give the vehicle an all-road capacity. The car has the same exterior shape, but stands around 15 millimetres higher than the basic SEAT Leon ST.[1]

In the interior, the X-PERIENCE comes with different trims and a variety of new materials, including the options of brown Alcantara with orange stitching or black leather. The luggage compartment has a carrying capacity of 587 litres with passengers, but can be extended to up to 1,470 litres by folding the rear-seat backrests.[2]

Engines

The first-generation Leon X-PERIENCE comes with a selection of petrol and diesel engines. The top engine is the 2.0 TDI with 135 / 184 HP, capable of an acceleration time of 7.1 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and a top speed of 224 km/h and a combined fuel consumption of 4.9 litres and CO2 emissions of 129 grams per kilometre. The 2.0 TDI engine with 110 kW / 150 HP has a fuel consumption figure of 4.9 litres (CO2: 129 g/km)[3]

The petrol engine is the latest-generation 1.8 TSI with 132 kW / 180 HP with a fuel consumption of 6.6 litres/100 km (CO2: 152 g/km).[3]

All first-generation models feature Start/Stop and energy recuperation systems.[3]

Technology

Technology options in the Leon X-PERIENCE include full-LED headlights and adaptive cruise control with city emergency braking function. Adaptive cruise control maintains the set speed, as well as the pre-determined distance to the vehicle in front, automatically braking and accelerating as required in moving traffic. The speed can be set within a range of 30 to 160 km/h. The ACC radar system works with the manual transmission and DSG. In vehicles equipped with DSG, the system can slow down to a standstill behind a stopping vehicle.[4]

Performance

The Drive Profile enables the driver to vary the characteristics of the power steering, throttle control and the DSG transmission in three modes – eco, comfort and sport. There is also an individual setting. In addition, this technology incorporates a sound actuator close to the engine to provide a more refined engine tone.[4]

Safety

The X-PERIENCE comes with Driving Assistance systems, including Front Assist, which monitors the traffic situation in front of your vehicle, High Beam Assist, which automatically dips your headlights for oncoming traffic and Lane Assist, a technology that helps drivers to avoid drifting out of their lanes. The Tiredness Recognition System detects tiredness and uses an alert notification to advise the driver when to take a break.[4]

The car’s braking technology features four-wheel EDS (electronic differential locks on both axles) and XDS (expanded electronic differential lock), the ESC electronic stability programme and the multi-collision brake.[5]

Also included is Hill-Hold Control, a safety technology that prevents the car from rolling backwards on a steep incline when the brake is released.[4]

Infotainment Systems

The SEAT Leon X-PERIENCE is equipped with the SEAT Navi System High operating system, which enables control of entertainment and communication, as well as other vehicle functions, via a touch-sensitive screen in the cockpit.[6]

The optional SEAT Sound System with 135-watt output and ten speakers features an additional centre speaker integrated in the dashboard and a subwoofer in the trunk.[6]
