On 11 January 2007 JSW Steel had announced plans to construct a 10 million tonne steel plant in Salboni.[11] Construction costs were estimated to be around 35,000 crore(5,3 million dollars).[12] The plant was to be built on an 4300 acre plot of which 4000 acres were barren government land, 300 acres were bought from locals and 134 acres of the land was purposed for a cement plant. Unable to secure iron ore linkage, local villagers became disillusioned with the construction plans, as the projected economic boost failed to materialize.[13][14] In 2014 SJW Steel announced that it would be returning 300 acres of land back to their original owners.[15] After statements by the government that it would take back it's land if it were left unutilised, JSW Steel announced in early 2016 that they were to build a cement plant and a power plant, and are looking to expand their plans where possible.[16]
