Good article nomination on hold

[edit]

This article's Good Article promotion has been put on hold. During review, some issues were discovered that can be resolved without a major re-write. This is how the article, as of July 20, 2007, compares against the six good article criteria:

1. Well written?: The lead needs to summarise the reception section too.
2. Factually accurate?: More refs would be nice, but it's mostly good. checkY
3. Broad in coverage?: Need something on development. This should be do-able in the 7 days you have for the on hold period, but if it isn't done the article will be failed. See some of the articles here for examples of this (I wrote Age of Mythology, so you can base off that to make me happy :D). The lead will also need to make mention of this.
4. Neutral point of view?: checkY
5. Article stability? Wow...this was created a day ago! checkY
6. Images?: checkY

Please address these matters soon and then leave a note here showing how they have been resolved. After 48 hours the article should be reviewed again. If these issues are not addressed within 7 days, the article may be failed without further notice. Thank you for your work so far. Giggy UCP 03:47, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, I expanded the lead, and added a bit of development information (Kouichi Hasegawa's announcement of the game) and moved the sentence about the actresses in the section. I've blended the development section with the promotion section since they're kind of in continuity with each other. I suppose more development info would be better, but it's difficult to find any since this game has never been released outside of Japan; and although I don't speak Japanese, there doesn't seem to be much in the Japanese Google either apart from the PlayStation Festival 2000 info. I'm afraid I searched everywhere I could, so you might want to conclude this nomination anytime before these 7 (or 5, now) remaining days. I really feel this can pass, but I'll accept the final decision either way. Kariteh 22:00, 21 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
All issues addressed. Passed! Congratulations :D Giggy UCP 22:33, 22 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"there are no lesbianism in the story"? This doesn't make sense. I would edit but I've never played this game, just got here from the front page. 81.106.196.126 15:19, 23 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Article title

[edit]

Why was the title changed from 0 to Ø? Official page and all other sources use 0. WP:MOSTM states that "Follow standard English text formatting and capitalization rules even if the trademark owner encourages special treatment". So as I see it article's name should be 0 Story. --Mika1h 09:56, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Except that normal formatting of Ø is not 0 (number), but O (letter), since a slashed zero does not extend beyond the walls. I was basing the move off of the the Japanese article. Confusing, the developer's website (you have to navigate a little) refers to it both as O ストーリー (in the navbox) and 0 ストーリー (in the description), so there's no real answer to this. If something show why the Ø stands for "love" in the first place, then that would really help this process.--SeizureDog 10:50, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know if it's related but a score of zero in tennis is called "love", which doesn't come from the English word but from the French phrase "l'œuf" ("the egg", which is shaped like a "0"). Perhaps the Japanese mixed all these stuff and went from 0 to Ø for stylistic reasons (or Engrish... Franponais... whatever). Kariteh (talk) 09:33, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Seizure Dog is right, the current name uses a Norwegian letter, not a slashed zero. For the few people who would recognize 0 as meaning "love", we don't have a zero now, just a slashed O approximating a slashed 0. Unicode doesn't have a single character for a slashed zero, so it can only be made with overstrikes, not acceptable for an article name and not done correctly by all browsers. Better to approximate a slashed 0 with a 0, and better yet with "love". Gene Nygaard (talk) 13:41, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Phonetically the game name is pronounced ラブストーリー, that's "Ra-Bu Su-to-ri" - Written in katakana as these are Japanese loan words. Given the pronunciation of the game is "Love Story", I added a link to the article at the Love Story disambig page. I had added an other uses tag to this article but Kariteh removed it stating "there's no confusion possible." I'd like to open up for discussion whether or not other uses should appear on this article. It seems if someone knows the name of the game, they will likely type "Love Story" as opposed to a Zero with a slash through it - Story. Thanks! Requested move

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was move to Love Story (video game). There is a clear consensus to move the article somewhere, and that seems to be the most popular option. If any new evidence comes to light that would clearly show that one of the other suggestions is the WP:COMMONNAME, then the article should be moved there instead. Ø Story → [[?]] — The current title is not acceptable per guidelines like WP:TM, it's the same reason similar article (like I Heart Huckabees) were also moved. The official website uses "0 Story", so I am leaning towards that. The symbol is supposed to represent love (how, I don't know) which would make it "Love Story". If we use Love Story, it will have to be named "Love Story (video game)". — TJ Spyke 06:54, 31 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment

[edit]
This discussion is transcluded from Talk:Love Story (video game)/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the reassessment.

As part of Wikipedia:WikiProject Good articles' Project quality task force, all old good articles are being re-reviewed to ensure that they meet current good article criteria (as detailed at WP:WIAFA. In reviewing this article, I have found that it doesn't meet criteria.

  • The main issue is one of comprehensiveness; as this is a Japanese game, released in Japan, we need some reception from Japanese critics in order for the article to have a broad enough coverage of the topic. Two North American video game critic's opinions just do not cut it in this context.
  • There were other issues, but for the most part the prose is good and I removed excessive fair use images.

Since the issues are fairly localized and could be more easily addressed than larger issues of construction, I putting this article on hold for seven days, longer if good efforts are made towards finding sourcing. Please appraise me on my talk page or here of any developments. Thanks, Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 19:15, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I found a Dengeki review of a similar title, the FEAR. The reviewer discusses this game in one paragraph and makes some hard to follow comments about the game, like calling it revolutionary in one sentence and then regrettable the next. Maybe someone more fluent in Japanese can get more out of it. Aside from a few TGS announces, I didn't come across anything else.
Something else that seems to be missing in the article is that the plot is not discussed outside of the lead. (Guyinblack25 talk 20:42, 19 October 2009 (UTC))[reply]
Good catch... I was going to mention it if the other issues got addressed :P Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 20:53, 19 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As there hasn't been action on the above issues, I am delisting as it stands. Remember that you can renominate at WP:GAN at any time, but I would strongly recommend adding more local and English reviews. Direct any further comments to my talk page; I don't watchlist old reviews. Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs(talk) 18:50, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
