MtF to play an MtF in prime time

[edit]

Alexandra Billings was the first MtF to play an MtF in prime time. In episodes of "Karen Sisco" (2003), "ER" (2005), "Grey's Anatomy" (2006) and Nurses (2007), she played a male-to-female transsexual.

The above comment may be true but we need to verify it and contrast it with what the other ref states. Benjiboi 19:45, 13 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Indeed Billings landed several episodic roles, but I think Cayne is a groundbreaker in that she has landed a co-starring role in a major primetime show. Her name is listed in the opening credits alongside the co-stars every episode, whether she makes an appearance in that episode or not. ~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sarabelllum1976 (talkcontribs) 18:32, 4 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
For the record, the sources clarify that Cayne's is the first recurring role, and I've made sure the article reflects that.— TAnthonyTalk 11:42, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Him/Her

[edit]

I'm not sure if there is a style precedent set for this, but when I overhauled the article I used masculine pronouns/possessives to talk about McDaniel pre-transformation, and feminine after, when she is called Cayne. Everything was changed to feminine here. I don't have an objection per se, I'm just not sure what makes the most sense. Thoughts? — TAnthonyTalk 04:15, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Policy is to use the pronouns preferred by the person - within reason. That is we use "he" or "she" whichever makes sense to their gender identity. If they use "hir" or some other non-traditional pronoun we explain that preference in the article but stick to he and she. -- Banjeboi 03:30, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think she is one of the few transgender females that does not mind that the public knows the prior gender and name. I have only met her a few times and cannot say I know her personally. But she is not like Calpernia at all. Calpernia does not divulge her history and finds it offensive if you ask about it. Many transgender persons find it offensive and harmful to overlay another gender onto them when they worked hard to get to the gender they feel is their true self. I am guessing that it does not affect Candis at the moment as she is enjoying a successful career and seems very happy in her skin/gender. Removal of Given Name

[edit]

Is there any valid reason to use the given name Brendan McDanniel in this article? It's not sourced in either instance, and it's not particularly relevant to an entry about Candis Cayne, who doesn't widely advertise her given name, or identify with it. So…? 75.27.42.188 (talk) 08:40, 11 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Isn't someone's birth name relevant to their biography? She used her old name professionally until she transitioned, for example in To Wong Foo..., so it seems eminently relevant. Someone had added that her birth name was "Brendan Cayne" which is clearly wrong, so that does need amending. Sah10406 (talk) 07:29, 17 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
