Accent
[edit]Should the e be an é? --evrik 18:15, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
No: in fact, the accent should not be there at all. Cosme de Torres is a Spanish person, but Torrès is how you spell his name in Portuguese. The grave accent reminds you to pronounce the "e" fully, which would not happen automatically in Portuguese, but it does happen automatically in Spanish. Note that the Spanish-language page also has no accent. I am also requesting that the page be moved for this reason. Patrick Schwemmer (talk) 02:20, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: Move. We have consensus that the subject's name generally appears without the accent. Cúchullain t/c 15:00, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
Cosme de Torrès → Cosme de Torres – Cosme de Torres is a Spanish person, but Torrès is how you spell his name in Portuguese. The grave accent reminds you to pronounce the "e" fully, which would not happen automatically in Portuguese, but it does happen automatically in Spanish. Note that the Spanish-language page also has no accent. Patrick Schwemmer (talk) 02:24, 17 February 2017 (UTC)

- Support - does not really sound controversial. The page was moved in 2006, which seems a reasonable reason to use a requested move. Pinging Evrik, who originally moved the page and edited last December. TigraanClick here to contact me 16:47, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
- Support. Based on a quick search it appears that the unaccented version is more frequently used in a variety of sources. BlackcurrantTea (talk) 06:14, 25 February 2017 (UTC)
