Requested move 21 March 2015[edit]

Deerfoot (runner) → Deerfoot – The location "Deerfoot" currently redirects to Deerfoot Trail, a freeway in Calgary, which was apparently named after the runner. I would have thought therefore that per long term significance, and the fact that the current redirect target is not actually called "Deerfoot" itself (it's called "Deerfoot Trail"), the runner should be at the main page location, with a simple hatnote to the freeway. The only counterargument would be if the freeway is frequently and commonly known by the shorthand "Deerfoot" moniker, in which case it would also be a contender. Probably deer foot should redirect to deerfoot if the move goes ahead, it's just a slight variant on the theme, with no other potential targets. The feet of deer is not a notable topic AFAIK, unless there's a culture that has them as a culinary delicacy or something...? To me it seems unlikely anyone would be searching for deer feet on Wikipedia, so we can probably ignore that usage. Relisting Comment: I was going to close this as moved, but came across this: API-KAI-EES (meaning “scabby dried meat” and sometimes translated as “bad dried meat,” also known as Deerfoot) and Weird Calgary Facts: How Deerfoot Trail Got its Name. It appears there are 2 Deerfoot runners--one Seneca (with WP article) and one Blackfoot (no article, but clearly references to support one). The Deerfoot trail and Deerfoot Mall take their names from the Blackfoot runner not the Seneca runner. An ngram of "Deerfoot","Deerfoot trail" is a dead heat. It is questionable as to whether Deerfoot the Seneca runner is primary. --Mike Cline (talk) 16:14, 29 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Good catch. I'd still go with the current move, and if and when the article is created on the other runner (and it seems fairly important as there's a lot of disinformation about and we are currently part of it!) then address the primary meaning issue that will arise then.
