Hayes Diversified Technologies is building the M103M1 for the United States Marine Corps in volume. According to an article in the New York Times Feb. 24, '08, this is a heavily modified Kawasaki KLR650 with a five-speed gearbox and a top speed of more than 90 mph. It gets 96 mpg at a steady speed of 55 mph.

overhaul

[edit]

this page is in need of at least some (and ideally all) of the following:

1. updating to reflect changes in the development of newer models and the announcement/manufacture of diesel motorcycles since December 2006.*

2. a list of the known companies to have come and gone offering custom diesel builds/conversions** and the *many older attempts* at diesel motorcycles, whether production models, one-offs, prototypes, or popular custom builds ***

3. a list of some of the most widely used/copied diesel engines and their advantages/disadvantages ****

4. information on or references to NATO's desire to have all defense motor vehicles operate on a single fuel

5. reference to the Coconut Revolution of Bougainville Island and the use of coconut oil to run all motorized equipment, motorcycles included.

6. general editing for spelling, grammatical and typographical errors.

7. specs, availability and more general info on those models already included on the page.

8. SUBSTANTIATION OF AND/OR CITATION(S) FOR the 240+ mpg claim on older Royal Enfield diesel bikes

Track T-800 CDI

[edit]

In the text it states that the engine was developped "especially for the motorcycle" by Mercedes Benz. The engine was originally developed for the Smart ForTwo CDI car. It is still being developped and used in the Smart ForTwo CDI. I assume that Mercedes "helped" to modify the engine so it can be used in the bike, but to state that the engine was esspecialy developed for the bike goes a litle far.

Speed Triple diesel conversion

[edit]

The bike on the image does not looking like Triumph Speed Triple based. Frame and gearbox looks like BMW-styled or something like that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.169.200.11 (talk) 11:37, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good spot, thanks --Biker Biker (talk) 12:09, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing ever suggested that it was a Triumph Speed Triple, merely that its constructor named it that. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:58, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It did, the image caption linked to the Triumph Speed Triple. --Biker Biker (talk) 22:02, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's WP's problem though, not the photographer's. Andy Dingley (talk) 23:16, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
