Shrubs?
[edit]There are no shrubs between the stands and the field, but perhaps at one time there were. Allowing for that possibility, I'll not remove this now. 69.29.207.109 (talk) 04:04, 30 October 2009 (UTC)
OK, this as been up long enough, in my opinion, so I am going to remove this statement. If indeed there were shrubs at one time, someone can put that back in, along with the date they were removed. 69.29.207.109 (talk) 19:45, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Lights
[edit]The article said that the first game under permanent lights are North Texas and Memphis. There can be only one.Go Mizzou 02:09, 14 November 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Esb5415 (talk • contribs)
Current remodeling project
[edit]This is written as being in the future, but as of now the first stage is more or less complete. The west press box has been remodeled, and the "M" hill and north concourse has been redone, except perhaps for some minor touch up work. Work continues on the new seating for the east side, which is scheduled to be completed for next year. Question is: do we want to update this on a bit by bit, or wait until fully done? Also, the seating capacity for this year is reduced to so e 67,000 and change, but will change as work proceeds. How should we handle that.
And finally, the statement about potential problems in filling out the south stands sounds a bit odd, as there is considerable talk from official sources about doing this. I am not sure if this expansion is firmly in the works, or just a possible future expansion, but it sure sounds to me that any problems caused by the water table are solvable. Proposed move
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. The result of the move request was: Not moved. A few people are on the fence, but generally the prevailing opinion is that the current name meets WP:NATURAL better than the proposed title. (non-admin closure) — Amakuru (talk) 12:50, 12 December 2013 (UTC)
Faurot Field → Memorial Stadium (University of Missouri) – It would seem to me that the stadium is more notable than the playing surface itself. --Relisted. — Amakuru (talk) 14:02, 4 December 2013 (UTC) Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 22:46, 26 November 2013 (UTC)
- Hey Marcus, man this is a toughy. I have no strong opinion and would be happy to see the page at either namespace. That said... The naming conventions hold that the most common or dominate english language usage should dictate the namespace. In Columbia at least it is most common to refer to Faurot Field instead of Memorial Stadium but I have heard both. The kicker is most people use the two terms interchangeable. I suspect the usage of Faurot is more common because of the number of Memorial Stadiums in the nation (Kansas and illinois come to mind). So, I guess what Im saying is that the stadium is more notable than the playing surface. However, popular usage, though incorrect, is to refer to the stadium as Faurot Field. Grey Wanderer (talk) 22:49, 27 November 2013 (UTC)
- That about sums it up. I don't think either is ideal but if one is more common, then that should be the title. Happy Thanksgiving! Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 12:21, 28 November 2013 (UTC)
- Popular usage in conversations may usually be to refer to the stadium as Faurot Field, but I've heard many refer to it as Memorial Stadium as well. Since there's really no way to prove what people are generally using in conversations, don't we need to fall back to what's commonly used in published media? It looks like the Columbia Missourian and the Columbia Daily Tribune, along with many other news sources are referring to the stadium as Memorial Stadium. We have to have some kind of facts to make a COMMONNAME determination, and right now I just don't see much evidence to support Faurot Field over Memorial Stadium. - In my experience, colleges will often have separate naming rights for the field and the stadium, or the floor and the stadium, probably just to make more money (ok, I see in this case it was a memorial thing). That doesn't really help us make a COMMONNAME determination, however. Grey Wanderer may be on to something; Nebraska's is the first Google hit for "memorial stadium" -wikipedia, and there are a ton of others. So I wouldn't be opposed to the move given the right evidence, but in absence of it, I'd tend towards WP:NATURAL and the status quo. --BDD (talk) 17:48, 29 November 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose, common name is Faurot Field as Grey Wanderer pointed out. ONR (talk) 00:36, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose. In addition to COMMONNAME issues raised, WP:NCDAB states that a natural disambiguation title (like "Faurot Field") is generally preferable to a parenthetical disambiguation one (like Memorial Stadium (University of Missouri) ). Zzyzx11 (talk) 05:02, 5 December 2013 (UTC)
- Mild oppose as per WP:NATURAL Red Slash 05:41, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

End Zone Design
[edit]Right now the article mentions the change in the end zone design that took place in 2012, where MIZZOU replaced MISSOURI in the diamonds. I think it would be beneficial in the article to notes the other times when the end zone design was changed. From my recollection, the MISSOURI diamond design was introduced when the Omitruf was put down in 1995. From the mid-80s through the 1994 season, there were no diamonds in the end zones. There were just gold block letters that spelled out MIZZOU at one end and TIGERS at the other. I think the diamonds were previously there from the 1973 season until sometime in the mid-1980s; however, the diamonds originally spelled out MIZZOU at one end and TIGERS at the other. This is all based on what I remember and looking through some of my old photos. Does anyone have any idea where we could actually find some of this information in a verifiable form so the correct seasons and design changes could be incorporated into the article? BlueGold73 (talk) 13:39, 2 December 2013 (UTC)
- There's no info on this on the official website. I suspect what someone would have to do is root through the back issues of the Trib and look for either discussion on re-doing the end zone and other markings or photos showing end zones. The latter might be tricky: if you were to find a photo showing a certain end zone marking in say 1969, it wouldn't be definite from that alone that such markings dating from that year, unless there was a specific marking or you had photos from a year earlier showing a different marking.
There might be someone around Columbia long enough, but whether such personal recollections are reliable is another question. And there is the possibility that, when the field was grass and had to be markd for each game, that end zone marking just might have varied from game to game. Something more fancy for a big game or a TV game, less fancy for the season opener against Podunk State. Wschart (talk). — Preceding undated comment added 21:06, 2 July 2014 (UTC)
