I'll begin the review for this article. Expect me to post the initial review some time in the next day or two. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 22:39, 3 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Arconning, I've written a review for this article and posted it below. There are a lot of issues throughout the article's writing, and I suggest working with the text more closely before nominating any articles in the future. It's important that the nominator is familiar with the details of the article and that most of the problems are already fixed before nominating it. This article currently does not meet the standards expected of a good article, and I'm going to close the review. You may renominate it at any time once you believe that it meets the good article criteria, but I strongly recommend reading the review below and fixing the issues before nominating it again. If you have any questions about the good article process, they can be answered at Wikipedia talk:Good article nominations. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 16:15, 4 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Well-written
  • Avoid making small paragraphs with just one or two sentences. Try to combine these to make longer paragraphs.
  • Several punctuation issues throughout the article, such as commas where there should be periods or no punctuation where there should be a comma.
  • In the body, uses of "is" should be changed to "was" if it's something that happened in the past.
  • The body uses her first name a few times. This only needs to be there the first time when her full name is given in "Early life and education". After that, it should just be her last name.
  • The word "however" is used a bit too often.
  • in computer science in the same school – Might be better to say "at the same school".
  • her cousin Catalino Diaz who is also – "who was also"
  • Elementary students not enrolled in UZ were able to train under the program by Institute of Human Kinetics director Elbert Atilano. – This is a little confusing as it's written.
  • She had to do part-time work; selling vegetables and fish and washing jeepneys to fund her transportation to a local gymnasium. – This sentence runs on a bit and doesn't need a semicolon.
  • Diaz first competition – Is this supposed to be possessive?
  • breaking the Philippine record that she herself set at the 2007 Southeast Asian Games – Why is this the first time this is mentioned?
  • her performance was praised and considered promising for her age – Praised and considered promising by whom? Just the sports commission chairman?
  • Come 2012 Olympics, – Grammar
  • as she recently snatched the gold medal – "snatched" is informal. Also, it should be "had recently" instead of "recently" so we know that it was recent back then as opposed to today.
  • The same mark is good for 4th place in the 2012 London Olympics. – What does this mean?
  • Diaz copped a gold medal – "copped" is informal.
  • and was welcomed as a Hero of the city – Why is Hero capitalized?
  • by lifting 127 kg in the Clean and Jerk – Why is this italicized in just this one instance?
  • Diaz's achievements at the 2020 Summer Olympics were remarkable – We don't call things "remarkable" on Wikipedia.
  • where they have been living in a house – This should be past tense: have -> had
  • Diaz also fought mental breakdown during her ordeal – "Mental breakdown" is very strong language, likely stronger than is needed here.
  • On May 20, 2022, Olympic champion Hidilyn Diaz – We don't need to call her "Olympic champion Hidilyn Diaz".
  • at St. Ignatius Church in the Philippine Military Academy grounds – Should it be "on" the grounds instead of "in" the grounds?
  • after she clinched the country's first Olympic gold medal – "clinched" is informal.
  • Diaz first met with Naranjo at the 2017 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games. – This should be in chronological order. It's currently the last sentence in the paragraph.
Verifiable with no original research
  • The table under major results doesn't technically need citations under the good article criteria. However, they are encouraged, and there is currently a discussion to raise the citation requirements, so it may be required in the very near future. I strongly recommend citing this section.
  • Are CandyMag and Inquirer Bandera reliable sources? I'm not familiar with them, but at a glance they look like tabloids or gossip magazines.
  • Two [citation needed] tags need to be resolved.
  • A bunch of uncited info under "2016 Summer Olympics"
  • This isn't necessary to reach GA, but I notice that some of the references are incomplete or that they aren't accessible. Some of them should probably have archive links added or be tagged as dead links.

Source spotchecks to ensure that content is accurate and that the text is not a copyright violation:

  • [15] Araullo (2021) – Good. Checked both uses.
  • [19] Lara (2021) – Good. The relevant part is in Filipino, but it appears to verify the cited info.
  • [36] Bracher (2016) – Good.
  • [47] Brito (2021) – This only supports that she was stranded in Malaysia due to COVID movement restrictions. I can't find anything else from the sentences that this citation follows.
  • [48] Coconuts Manila via Yahoo – I checked this one to see if it supports anything the previous one is missing. It seems to support most of it, though I don't see anything about Gao Kaiwen's opinion.
  • [64] Mangosing (2018) – Good.
  • [81] Ranada (2019) – Good.
Broad in its coverage

Mostly covers her life and her accomplishments in a reasonable amount of detail. Only one minor issue:

  • It aired a rerun on July 31, 2021 – A program airing as a rerun is not significant.
Neutral

Only a few minor wording issues, but I've mentioned those above.

Stable

No recent content disputes in the edit history or the talk page.
