[edit]

The result of the move request was: Move to Jigsaw (Saw franchise). Jafeluv (talk) 19:15, 26 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jigsaw (Saw)Jigsaw (Saw character) – as a less ambiguous disambiguator. Jigsaw (disambiguation) lists many meanings, of which the 2 most important are listed separately at the top of the page: jigsaw (power tool) and jigsaw puzzle. The current disambiguator "Saw" is equally applicable to the power tool (a type of saw), with only the capitalisation to distinguish it.
In Wikipedia convention, it is quite appropriate to capitalise this use of "Saw", since it refers to the Saw (franchise) ... but our article on the power tool saw is the primary topic for that term. It is unreasonable to expect our readers to understand the intention that the word "Saw" loses its primary meaning when capitalised in a disambiguator, particularly when the page on the tool uses the same capitalised title.
Note previous move discussion in December 2010, when the article was moved from "Jigsaw Killer". I considered "Jigsaw (killer)" as an alternative name, but that seems to be ambiguous with Jigsaw (Marvel Comics). --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 09:38, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If there are other characters called Jigsaw and Saws called Jigsaw, wouldn't Jigsaw (Saw franchise) be the more appropriate and complete disambiguation? Darkwarriorblake (talk) 12:11, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It might indeed. I would be happy to support that alternative. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 22:19, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

GA review – see WP:WIAGA for criteria

  1. Is it reasonably well written?
    A. Prose quality:
    B. MoS compliance for lead, layout, words to watch, fiction, and lists:
The lead should be expanded to three paragraphs. The In other media section needs to be combined with the fictional character biography (which coincidentally also needs to be trimmed down). The concept and creation section needs to be expanded.
  2. Is it factually accurate and verifiable?
    A. References to sources:
Some of these citations are fansites and should be removed.
    B. Citation of reliable sources where necessary:
    C. No original research:
    No original research so far.
  3. Is it broad in its coverage?
    A. Major aspects:
    B. Focused:
  4. Is it neutral?
    Fair representation without bias:
  5. Is it stable?
    No edit wars, etc:
  6. Does it contain images to illustrate the topic?
    A. Images are tagged with their copyright status, and valid fair use rationales are provided for non-free content:
    B. Images are provided where possible and appropriate, with suitable captions:
  7. Overall:
    Pass or Fail:
This article is on hold for now.

I will also check and see what aspects we need to work on. Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 21:22, 11 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 7 July 2018

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: Moved to Jigsaw (Saw character), there's a consensus to move the page, so the question is which title to move to of the 2 proposed in the discussion. Both options are precise, but the conciseness argument leads to (Saw character) winning over (Saw franchise character). (non-admin closure) IffyChat -- 11:31, 17 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jigsaw (Saw franchise)Jigsaw (Saw franchise character)WP:PRECISE, ambiguous disambiguation is a bad idea. Multiple topics in this franchise called "Jigsaw", there also being Jigsaw (2017 film). This should redirect to the franchise article Saw (franchise). -- 65.94.42.168 (talk) 10:15, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is a contested technical request (permalink). — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 10:23, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment the WP:Article titles Wikipedia wide policy requires this article be renamed. It fails titles should be precise enough to unambiguously define the topical scope of the article . This clearly does not as the 2017 film is also in the Saw franchise, so the character's article name is ambiguous. -- 65.94.42.168 (talk) 10:47, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment "Jigsaw (character)" cannot be used as it is also ambiguous, there being multiple characters named Jigsaw with articles (two comic book characters also carry this name), and it is also the stagename of a pro-wrestler. Thus the simplest title to use becomes Jigsaw (Saw franchise character) -- 65.94.42.168 (talk) 10:47, 7 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Length of fictional character biography

[edit]

The fictional character biography in this article seems excessively long and detailed to me. It basically describes Jigsaw's actions in every single Saw movie, which takes up a lot of space because he is frequently central to the (complex and sprawling) plot. My proposal is that we limit the character biography to Jigsaw's backstory and general in-universe modus operandi as a fictional serial killer. If a Wikipedia reader is curious to know the specifics of what Jigsaw gets up to in any given Saw movie, the page for the film itself probably already contains that information. Is this proposal reasonable, or am I totally off-base here? OroborosCackling (talk) 02:57, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Importance of having all apprentices listed?

[edit]

I think it’s very Fandom-esque to have all the apprentices listed per, WP:NOTFANDOM NotAMoleMan (talk) 15:55, 26 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
