(Congressional staff members related an incident in 2001, in which they recalled the freshman Representative Melissa Hart of Pennsylvania, who is white, admonishing Representative Julia Carson, who is black, that the elevator they were riding on was members-only. Ms. Carson, of Indiana, proceeded to introduce herself to her new colleague, offense taken.) [1] --Neutralitytalk 06:05, 5 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

10th district -> 7th district

[edit]

An anonymous editor changed the succession from Andrew Jacobs, Jr. to John T. Myers. While it is true that Myers was the last previous person to represent the district called the 7th, it is not the same district. Indiana lost a seat in 2002, and the districts were re-numbered. Carson succeeded Jacobs as the 10th district rep in 1996, and the district boundaries were re-drawn, with the new 7th being substantially the same as the old 10th. The district known as the 7th prior to 2002 was in a different part of the state and had no common territory with the new 7th. --rogerd 10:44, 26 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to renew my objection here. The article now lists Brian Kerns as her predecessor. Kern's 7th and Carson's 7th did not have a single constituent in common. She was originally elected to the 10th, which was represented by Jacobs, which became the 7th upon redistricting. Jacobs was here predecessor. --rogerd (talk) 13:46, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've asked on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject U.S. Congress, this is a general question that applies everywhere. —Random832 15:26, 18 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

special election for her replacement

[edit]

I think that we shouldn't list the details about the candidates for the special election. There are several candidates and such detail would only duplicate the contents of the Indiana's 7th congressional district special election, 2008 article, which is linked here. --rogerd (talk) 17:53, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't there be mention of her refusal to debate her opponents, and her alcoholism? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.52.118.118 (talk) 07:11, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Class rated B

This article was rated B because its notability is easily verifable through the sources applied. It maintains a NPOV and follows the MoS. The article has pictures, an infobox, and short tables related to the article that are easy to read. Section Life and political career needs to be expanded and divided into an Early life section which to create needs significant more information. The article needs more in line citations for references.

Importance rated low

Birth place in Louisville, more significant to Indiana.
