Notability??

[edit]

Is there a claim to notability in this article? or is it just a random article about a journalist? --Werdna648 04:14, 29 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You seriously don't think that an author of two bestselling books, one of which is a biography of the most influential journalist in the history of Canadian television, is notable? That's a bit...odd. Bearcat 05:19, 1 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]
At the time, it didn't have in there that they were canadian bestsellers. It looked like a writer just trying to get publicity -Werdna648 06:55, 7 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

In any case this article has very little sources. Without these, much of the content will be deleted. If someone can source this, please do.Bless sins (talk) 18:31, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, She's not a senator yet... not until the ceremony. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 159.33.10.92 (talk) 20:35, 28 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I may be splitting hairs here, but I doubt you're appointed as a Conservative or a Liberal although affiliation may be noted, which is the edit I'll make on the page. I took a look at the Government's page and it didn't indicate anything close to that wording. 216.191.84.151 (talk) 13:50, 30 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Lead sentence

[edit]

I tweaked this since "former Canadian.." seemed awkward. Should she be considered a politician as well as author and journalist? No idea. --Tom (talk) 15:03, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • In Canada, Senators aren't elected, so they aren't usually referred to as "politicians". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.88.11.118 (talk) 16:11, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
    • Threeafterthree, could you consider using diffs, to ease the burden for later contributors trying to figure out what changes you are talking about?
    • As for whether she is, or isn't, a "politician"... the idea that only individuals who have been elected are politicians -- does anyone think this assertion is defensible? So, Ross Perot, for example, who spent millions of dollars to run for President, and, even though he didn't win, got every other candidate to take deficit-fighting seriously, was not a Politician? Really?

Just like members of the House of Commons, Conservative Senators have weekly caucus meetings, to hammer out the position they will take on the bills before them. Sheesh.

Backroom guys, paid by the party, to do polling, develop policy, court donors, IMO they too are politicians. IMO, backroom guys, who aren't paid by the party, who do the same thing, are also politicians.

As for WP:POLITICIAN... I think it is in the best interests of the project to apply it to OFFICEHOLDERs, including appointees. A decade or so ago a US President made 3,000 appointments, Cabinet Secretaries, and the heads of sub-cabinet positions. Geo Swan (talk) 20:21, 12 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Matthew Frum

[edit]

Why no mention of her brother, Matthew? Reference is made to her brother David, but not to Matthew. Yes, I know he is adopted, that has no bearing on whether to mention Matthew or not.

She also did not mention Matthew in her Senate acceptance speech; it would be interesting to determine why not, and note the reason in this article. Responses along the line of: "that's personal" are responded to with: "then why did she mention David in her speech?"

David is actually a notable public figure in his own right, who would have an article of his own even if Linda didn't. Matthew isn't, so the only thing we could even really say about him at all without overstepping the bounds of WP:BLP is that he exists. Wikipedia doesn't exist to be a repository of famous people's family trivia; there's no value in rattling off the names of relatives who aren't notable people in their own rights. Bearcat (talk) 05:22, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The adopted son Matthew is an "aboriginal" and has had several brushes with the law. He may have done prison time. Status is everything to people like the Frums, so they're probably just embarrassed to mention him.38.115.185.3 (talk) 21:31, 28 June 2012 (UTC)Chicagoan[reply]
[edit]

The link to "Senator Frum's web page" at the bottom of the article gets a grapic 404 "page missing" (with a rather annoying "Do you ever feel like you're in the wrong place?" theme.

Sorry, I don't know how to fix this, or I would have.
