Fair use rationale for Image:Llyud.jpg

[edit]

Image:Llyud.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This is a horrible article.

[edit]

It really is terrible. Read the Vayne and Venat sections. They suck out loud. (Momus (talk) 20:21, 18 November 2007 (UTC))[reply]

If you think it's that bad, be bold and try to improve it. Otherwise, stop trolling and vandalizing articles. PiccoloNamek (talk) 20:53, 18 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The upper half is very good for an article of this type. The bottom half could use references, although, even without them, it's fairly well written. I don't see how it could be considered horrible. Gamer Junkie 15:40, 21 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use images

[edit]

For a rationale on why we cannot use multiple fair-use images, see User:Durin/Fair_use_overuse_explanation. I don't agree with it at all, but rules are rules and we have to follow them. PiccoloNamek (talk) 01:17, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Plus there seems to be a favoritism, as only Vaan, Penelo, Ashe and Balthier's pic is placed. What about Fran and Basch? But that's not the point. There is a discussion already on this. Revert it back. — Blue 01:19, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
More ridiculous bureaucracy? Way to crap up the article. Gamer Junkie T / C 05:05, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Talk about the influence

[edit]

This article is very in-universe, except for maybe the first section. It is very much written like a game guide too. I thought we could draw more attention to where the characters are influenced. Take a look at some obvious influence drawn in the series, especially, as stated in the game article, from Star Wars:

Image:HanSolo.jpg
There's some obvious influence here...
Image:Balthier.jpg
...notice?

It was interesting how the fact that FFXII is somehow inspired by Star Wars in an uncanny way, but it would be good to point this out in the characters somehow. It looks pretty much that Vaan could well be a typical Luke Skywalker...but I guess that's a bit of WP:OR.

Anyways, it would be good if we could get some source to state the inspirations/influences for the charaacters. It's too prominent to overlook, but without the adequate referencing, it may be dismissed as OR. ætərnal ðrAعon 01:27, 8 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First, I love both series, so I'm not being negative out of hate. Luke was a farmboy pilot, Vaan in an orphaned street urchin, I fail to see the connection aside from the "ruby in the rough" thing. I also don't see it for Balthir and Han. Your acting like the ideas of a daring rogue pilot or low born rised high were created in the 70s, ignoring the centuries of English and other pirates and privateers, like Sir Francis Drake or all of the plebs who rose to serve better and higher than the Roman patricians. Or my favourite, Zhou Tai who rose from his lowly birth to a General in the Kingdom of Wu. Or [insert Dickens reference here]. Hardly new. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.137.207.191 (talk) 04:28, 22 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Rife with mispronunciations

[edit]

"They also criticized the voice acting as uneven and rife with mispronunciations." (review quoted as n.48):

The only specific example that review gives of mispronunciation ("marquis") is the reviewer's mistake, not the game's. The way the article summarises the review gives the impression (IMO) that this is a legitimate criticism - intentionally? Larsa's a dude?

[edit]

Are you sure? 74.192.157.176 (talk) 01:12, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, Larsa actually develops a close more-than-just-friends relationship with Penelo, whose heterosexuality is only moderately debatable. He is referenced as a boy throughout the story, but your incredulty is understood. My surprise came when I read Reddas' age. 33!? I was thinking around 45 at least!

Citation problems

[edit]

Some citation problems. First, is there a source for the sentence stating everything related to the Rosenburg twins' mother? I can't seem to spot one and I think it would need one. And citation number 11 is a raw url. I would fix it myself, but it's not loading properly so I can't fill it out correctly.

And kind of unrelated to the article, but why is Aki Ross in the Final Fantasy characters template? Itzjustdrama? 04:30, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

After the fact research, this says citation number 11's link has been dead since April 16, 2008. Itzjustdrama? 04:56, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed, but apparently someone still have problems with this article. Can we know why this article is tagged with OR, and point out which of the statements are OR, or do we have to suffer with a tag addressing a vague issue until it loses the GA? — Blue 14:53, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I will have to go through and mark all the specific examples later, but a couple things that stuck out when I first glanced over the article:
  1. in Fran's section, a sentence talking about how she's wiser than the rest of the party and how that is "fitting" for her character
  2. in Vayne's section, "he undertakes his noblest goal—freeing humanity from the slavery of the gods—and commits his ultimate act of villainy—toppling kingdoms, building massive warships, and leveling entire cities in nethecite testing experiments—in order to achieve his goal"—language like "noblest goal" and "ultimate act of evil" not really desirable, it might not exactly be OR but it definitely should be removed. Same with stuff like "Despite this monstrosity's incredible destructive power, a furious battle with the team eventually forced his mechanical body to break apart"—overly descriptive and written from an obvious in-universe perspective. The article really shouldn't be talking about things like how powerful a boss is.
The OR tag might not be exactly the right tag, but there is definitely a need for cleanup—mainly OR and in-universe perspective. If you want to remove the OR tag and replace it with gen cleanup or in-universe or something like that until the article has been cleaned up, that's fine. —Politizertalk • contribs ) 15:07, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I've started going through and removing some problem sentences or tagging others in the Playable Characters section. —Politizertalk • contribs ) 17:39, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Removing minor characters

[edit]

It seems to me like this article lists a lot more characters than are really notable. For example, there are characters in the Minor Characters section who only appear at one small point in the game (Jules and Mrjn, for example) and have no effect on the main plotline of the story (ie, they are only very localized plot devices—for example, Jules as a role in just the part of the game where you have to get across the bridge from Old Archades, and other than that he doesn't matter), and thus I don't think there's much reason to keep them in the article. There are also characters included under Other Characters who I don't think should be there (such as Reks, who as far as I can remember never appears in the game, and isn't even very plot-critical...he's part of Vaan's personality, but doesn't really make a difference for the plot; also, King Dalmasca, who is dead before the game proper ever starts and doesn't really exercise any effect on the plot). —Politizertalk • contribs ) 17:21, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Basch / Penelo missing?

[edit]

I was browsing along and thought I'd look up my favorite character, Basch, when was reminded of the game and his page is.. missing? Delete this if for some reason they were pulled to fix some errors but it seems that the main cast is being omitted somehow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.120.162.178 (talk) 11:20, 2 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment

GA Sweeps: Delisted

[edit]

As part of the WikiProject Good Articles, we're doing sweeps to go over all of the current GAs and see if they still meet the GA criteria. I believe the article currently has multiple issues that need to be addressed, and as a result, I have delisted the article. The article has been tagged with needing additional references and original research tags since October 2008. Although several references are listed, there are no inline citations for a large number of the characters listed which is required under the criteria. A large number of the citations are also from the game itself, with few outside sources. Add additional citations from a variety of sources to provide a balanced representation of the information present. Perhaps sources can be pulled from the main articles linked to within the article. Look to books, magazines, newspaper articles, other websites, etc. Normally the article would be placed on hold, but due to the length of the tags placed on the article and amount of work required, I am delisting it now. Although the article has been delisted, the article can be return to GA status by addressing the above points. Once sources are added and cleanup is done, I recommend renominating the article at WP:GAN. If you disagree with this assessment, a community consensus can be reached at WP:GAR. If you need assistance with any of these issues, please contact me on my talk page and I'll do my best to help you out. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 05:11, 17 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Revenant Wings

[edit]

Those profiles are still important as they are part of the main game's storyline.Fractyl (talk) 17:47, 14 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think there is a misunderstanding on the topic. This article is about FFXII the PS2 game. There is no value judgement on the importance of RW; it's just that this article is about the PS2 game rather than the FFXII subseries. Megata Sanshiro (talk) 11:28, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I suggest renaming the article "Characters of the Final Fantasy XII series" to include RW material. While it's no value judgment on the project's part, it does seem to reflect that notion on others, as seen from Fractyl's opinion. Although, we could risk its GA status. — Blue 02:46, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm cool with that. I suggest that we revert back to the version where Fractyl had the RW characters in, and let him/help him finish citing it to the game script. At that point I'll try to find some reception on the characters, and if there's enough info in total to support the additions, we'll rename the article to match. I doubt there's any GA concerns; I only got the article to GA a month ago, no one's going to try to delist it in the middle of a renovation. --PresN 03:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I have no problem with that but the article is just too FFXII-centric in the current and reverted versions IMO. The "Cast creation and influences" is so focused on FFXII, I don't think adding one or two short lines about RW in the intro and reception will work much. With something like the FFVII series it makes sense to talk about all the games since it's the same development team and art style, but here you'll have 90% of talk about FFXII and 10% of RW content and it will seem very distinct (again no judgment on my part but it's different artists, different art styles, different reception, etc.). I'm just not sure we have to treat RW in this article when the only connection is the story (not really the most important aspect for Wikipedia). Moreover, Vaan and Penelo's story continues in FFTA2 yet this will be left out, won't it? Megata Sanshiro (talk) 08:40, 18 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
