[edit]Added this list of coal-fired power stations in South Africa. Flagman (talk) 11:37, 25 September 2009 (UTC)
Discussion from the category page
[edit]How about Kriel Power Station and Matla Power Station, both near the town of Kriel (west of Bethal, east of ogies, northwest of Secunda) Both must be about the same size as Duvha? Indeed not a compleet list!!
- Arnot (near Middelburg, Mpumalanga)
- Camdon (near Ermelo, Mpumalanga)
- Grootvlei (near Balfour, Mpumalanga)
- Hendrina (near Middelburg, Mpumalanga)
- Kendal (near Witbank, Mpumalanga)
- Komati (between Bethal and Middelburg, Mpumalanga)
- Kriel (between Kriel and Ogies, Mpumalanga)
- Lethabo (between Sasolburg and Vereeniging, Free State)
- Majuba (between Volksrust and Amersfoort, Mpumalanga)
- Matimba (close to Ellisras, )
- Matla (between Kriel and Secunda, Mpumalanga)
- Tutuka (between Bethal and Standerton, Mpumalanga)

Moved article
[edit]Hello. I have moved the article from List of coal-fired power stations in South Africa to the current title. This would increase the chances of this article being expanded. Feel free to let me know if the move was wrong. Regards. Rehman(+) 12:36, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
Size Limit
[edit]Established a limit on the size of power facility that can be listed of 1 MW capacity. To prevent the list being flooded by small solar, micro and pico hydro.
Can link to separate pages lists if more complete hydro or solar etc. are established. As it is we could be flooded with hydro and solar just bigger than 1MW. See reference: [1]
Should the limit be raised to 4 MW or more?
- Hello, Andynct. I think a minimum is fine to avoid too long of a list. A 100 MW minimum was established at List of run-of-the-river hydroelectric power stations for the same reason. In the future, please sign --~~~~ your posts and you can start a new discussion by clicking "New section" next to "Read" and "Edit" at the top. This will also ensure that new discussions go to the bottom.--NortyNort (Holla) 00:07, 7 April 2015 (UTC)

Featured list candidate
[edit]I believe this list is close to featured list quality. It conforms to most of the criteria and compares well with other featured lists. Assistance is requested to expand the prose under each section and find the couple of missing commission dates. --NJR_ZA (talk) 04:57, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Some citations are needed as well. Under the hydroelectric stations, you don't have to list the dams under the pumped storage scheme. The main part of it, for the list's purpose, is the power station, not the dams. --NortyNort (Holla) 08:50, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback and thanks for adding all the dams to WP:Dams.
- The dams listed in the Hydroelectric section are not part of pumped storage schemes, but standalone stations located on those dams. Most of these generators are to small to warrent an article of their own and their history is directly tied to that of the dam. The dams associated woth pumped storage schemes are not listed. --NJR_ZA (talk) 10:36, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- I was referring to the dams on the A, B and C notes, such as Driekloof Dam. I should have been more clear, my apologies.--NortyNort (Holla) 11:50, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, yes, you are correct. No need for them to be there. Have removed it. --NJR_ZA (talk) 12:18, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, when I was rummaging the dam articles, I didn't see any others that were hydroelectric. It may be because most were stubs but farming appeared to be the big goal for the projects.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:04, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
- I am about to log off but here is a good general reference for power plants in case you didn't know about it. I didn't see the site used in the article. They usually don't cover every plant in every country, but is a good repository for scrubbing lists. I only looked at hydro and saw the Palmiet PSP there. Also, this site (that link goes directly to Africa) is awesome as well, especially with providing detailed information. Maybe they can help fill some reference gaps. Ill be back tomorrow and help out.--NortyNort (Holla) 13:19, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Gas fired at Coega
[edit]I have a vague recollection that there was going to be a gas fired power station at Coega industrial hub. Not sure it is is or will be connected to the coutry grid though. Idyllic press (talk) 13:59, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
Error of scale.
[edit]I tried to get this across via edit, but looking at the process, I didn't feel technically competent. There is an error of scale in the figures in the article, concerning both power generated and installed capacity, of a factor of 1000. I suspect it is due to a difference in notation. It is usual in some countries, perhaps most, to use a comma instead of the Anglophone (at least) decimal point. So, the figure shown for solar power generated in S.AF. (not sure which year) of something like 240,800 GWhs for the year is fantastic. Germany, which has had, throughout 2013, more than 30 GW of installed PV, is on track to generate from that about 29 TWhs (=29,000 GWhs). O.K., S.Af. has higher insolation than Germany, but eight times Germany's output? I don't think so. And on that point, Germany is universally acknowledged to have the highest - if not for long - level of installed solar generation capacity of any country, currently at around 36 GW. Roughly adding up the figures for S.Af's regions yields a total in the mid-forty GWs. I doubt that that, if a fact, could have slipped under the radar of all the renewables watchers worldwide. Therefore, I suggest that, respectively, 241 GWhs/yr and about 45 MWs of installed capacity are likely the intended numbers; although then the ratio of generation to capacity would appear higher than probable. If one watt in Germany yields about 900 watt hours/year, you would expect more from the same watt in Sth. Af., but not 5000. Anyway, the figures as they stand are impossible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mishasibirsk (talk • contribs) 18:55, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
[edit]Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request its removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

List for Solar PV power, AC vs DC, and Ref-column
[edit]Hi there, just noticed this edit and following one about the Letsatsi and Lesedi solar park.
- Capacity was changed from watt-peak to MWAC, ie. from 75 to 64. I recommend to use watt-peak and not AC figures in the the "installed capacity" column. This is not for me to decide, but on wikipedia, MWp (aka MWDC) is commonly used. Either way, the column header should display which metric is used. Here's some background about AC vs DC.
- I also recommend not to go overboard with details about the power plants in the list's ref-column. There are articles for each of those solar farms, you know... Cluttering lists with excessive information is just bad, and gets worse if nobody cleans it up.
That's it. Cheers, -- Rfassbind -talk 20:47, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
- This is a list of power stations, not just solar PV power stations. I think what's important is what each power station delivers to the grid which is MW and which would be AC. All the other power stations are listed as such and that's what they are contracted for. I think all power stations should be listed with the same metric and not have a special metric for just solar PV. To my mind MWp is interesting but irrelevant.
- The Department of energy confirms the MW delivered to the grid.[1]
