Downtown Brooklyn traffic patterns
[edit][28] has some useful information. --NE2 15:26, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
New trackage on Livingston Street, opened 1907:
- 3rd Avenue: Third Avenue Line
- Flatbush Avenue: Flatbush Avenue Line
- Bergen Street or Atlantic Avenue: St. Johns Place Line
- Remaining on Fulton Street between Borough Hall and Flatbush Avenue
- 7th Avenue: Seventh Avenue Line (later moved to Livingston)
- Fulton Street: Fulton Street Line, Gates Avenue Line, Putnam Avenue Line (Putnam later moved to Livingston via Lafayette Avenue - opened when?; Gates later moved to Willoughby Street)
- DeKalb Avenue: DeKalb Avenue Line (later moved to Willoughby Street)
So eventually only the Fulton Street Line was on Fulton Street there.
New streetcar platforms at Sands Street, opened 1908; can be seen on Image:Brooklyn Bridge rail approaches 1936.jpg with the connection to Fulton Street underneath the elevated connection:
- Court Street: Court Street Line (combined with Myrtle Avenue Line), Union Street Line (rerouted to Hamilton Ferry)
- Flatbush Avenue: Flatbush Avenue Line (cut back to Borough Hall)
- Fulton Street: Fulton Street Line (rerouted to Fulton Ferry), Gates Avenue Line (cut back to Borough Hall), Putnam Avenue Line (cut back to Borough Hall)
- Myrtle Avenue: Myrtle Avenue Line (combined with Court Street Line)
Later all these lines, as well as the following, were cut back to Borough Hall:
- Atlantic Avenue: St. Johns Place Line
- Myrtle Avenue: Greenpoint Line
The Erie Basin Line came off the bridge onto Adams Street, using Willoughby Street to reach Court Street.
The following continued to run to or use the bridge:
- Court Street: Erie Basin Line (Adams Street)
- Smith Street: Smith Street Line (Jay Street), Smith Street and Coney Island Avenue Line (Jay Street)
- 3rd Avenue: Third Avenue Line (Jay Street/Adams Street)
- 7th Avenue: Seventh Avenue Line (Jay Street)
- DeKalb Avenue: DeKalb Avenue Line (Jay Street/Adams Street)
- Park Avenue: Park Avenue Line (Jay Street/Washington Street?)
- Flushing Avenue: Flushing Avenue Line (Sands Street), Graham Avenue Line (Sands Street), McDonald and Vanderbilt Avenues Line (Sands Street)

[29] and [30] confirms the double track in Gold north of DeKalb, which I haven't seen evidence of elsewhere except for the BAHN layout. It supposedly also connected to Fulton; it was used by DeKalb Avenue Line cars as well as apparently the Greene and Gates Avenue Line branching off from Fulton. In conjunction with the Livingston Street and Lafayette Avenue trackage, this took all cars but those of the Fulton Street Line off Fulton between Boerum and Gold. Also note [31], which shows three tracks on DeKalb just east of Fleet; I don't understand this, unless the southernmost track was one of the Fulton tracks. --NE2 16:39, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
[32] (1938) shows how the Putnam Avenue Line and St. Johns Place Line cars turned around at Washington and Tillary - via a loop (?) under the end of the elevated structure. In 1931 the tracks continued north on Washington; these were once used to take some lines to the bridge (see Talk:Brooklyn Bridge trolleys#Routings to the bridge), but only the DeKalb Avenue Line used the tracks there by 1916, and was rerouted via Gold, Willoughby, and Jay. --NE2 17:24, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
