...or Byzantine church?

[edit]

According to Salman Abu Sitta's, "Mapping my return", this was a well-known Byzantine church, before 1948. He visited in the 1990s, and found the stones for the menorah-area were different from the rest of the mosaic; they were just superficially coloured.

I wonder: was there anything published about this structure, before 1948? Huldra (talk) 23:03, 28 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Given the synagogue was only rediscovered in 1957 when a road was being dug up, I think he may be confusing it with another site. The Hebrew article mentions there is a former Byzantine church close by (near Kissufim) with a mosaic from the same period, plus another church in nearby Shallal (which is referenced in this article) which had been discovered in 1917 (and so would have been known before 1948).
