Fair use rationale for Image:Mechai.jpg
[edit]Image:Mechai.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

nobody in Thailand called condoms "mechais"
[edit]do you have a better reference source? —202.28.179.4 (talk) 11:48, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
- The term was popular some thirty years ago, according to various sources, including this mention:

- It is certainly mentioned in the biography by Thomas D'Agnes. Agricmarketing (talk) 20:19, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Australian?
[edit]Mechai is listed here as an "Australian person of Thai descent". He was educated in Australia, but does he actually have Australian citizenship?AuntFlo (talk) 03:29, 29 September 2010 (UTC)
- I came here to ask the same question. He is an Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia, so he cannot have Australian citizenship. I'm removing the offending category. -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 11:00, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
The Thai article for Mechai has him as being born in Australia? Do we have references to prove he was born in Bangkok? Neither article appears to have his birthplace referenced. He may have renounced his citizenship, it appears based on Order of Australia that he was born in Thailand, albeit do we have a source to confirm? [1]

New, related article being developed
[edit]We are two students at Mills College enrolled in a Politics of Developing Nations course. As a course requirement we are creating a new Wikipedia article related to developing nations. Our intended article will address the family planning program in Thailand. We were inspired by Thai leader Mechai Viravaidyma’s contributions to raise greater awareness of this program. In the Wikipedia article, we intend to concentrate on how this program has addressed poverty issues. Here are some of the topics we plan to explore:
- The reason for creating a family planning program within a developing nation
- What specific social conditions existed that demanded a family planning program
- An unbiased analysis of this program’s effectiveness
- Include independent data, reports and analysis to validate claims of success and program purpose
- How a multifaceted program was so successful in a developing country
- Where the initiative to develop this program stemmed from
- Expand and include more recent information
- How has the program progressed and how has it influenced today’s society in Thailand
- What (if any) sectors of the program may be expanded
- Whether there are populations that it has not been successful in reaching
- Whether this program could be a potential model for other developing nations to mirror
Themes/subtopics within the article:
- Poverty reduction (its relation to other subtopics)
- HIV/AIDS reduction
- Mortality rate
- Child mortality rate
- Entrepreneurship
- Religious support
- Political/military support
- Women’s rights/equality issues
- Education
- Community building
- Financial funding
- International support
- And others

Sources modified on Mechai Viravaidya
[edit]Hello fellow Wikipedians,
I have just attempted to maintain the sources on Mechai Viravaidya. I managed to add archive links to 1 source, out of the total 1 I modified, whiling tagging 0 as dead.
Please take a moment to review my changes to verify that the change is accurate and correct. If it isn't, please modify it accordingly and if necessary tag that source with {{cbignore}}
to keep Cyberbot from modifying it any further. Alternatively, you can also add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}}
