Controversial Tackle
[edit]Does this topic really require an entire sub-heading? Essien is not the first player to make a controversial challenge and nor will he be the last. It deserves a couple of lines in the main body of text at best. Given the wording of the original piece, I assume it was inserted by a Liverpool fan and seems to be far too detailed in relation to the rest of the article. If it does stay, then may I suggest a similar piece be inserted into the Didi Hamman article for his two-footed lunge on Damien Francis last season? ;-)SteveO
- There was no response to my question, so I've edited the piece. If anyone disagrees, we can discuss it here. SteveO 15:17, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
- Hey, I've initially edited the whole article (long time ago) and added the section about the tackle. However, it only consisted of "dry" facts and wasn't written in an against-Essien matter since I'm a Chelsea fan :) Surely it's worth mentioning it though, just like it is at the moment.Lars 08:38, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
- Okay that's fair enough then. Sorry to be presumptive. It does deserve a mention, I just didn't think it needed the amount of coverage it had. Cheers. SteveO 01:27, 18 March 2006 (UTC)
Picture
[edit]The current one is a bit blurry, and it'd be nice to get a better picture for the article. Miles Blues 02:40, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
I think it would be better if there was a picture of him in either his Chelsea or Ghana kit as it would reflect his current situation. Showing him in the Lyon kit might confuse some. --alexdeangelis86 21:13, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah... there's no point having the picture of him from Lyon up. I think my friend took a picture of Essien at a game a year or two ago, let me see if I can find it. Miles Blues 01:46, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
- It's the old shirt, but it's a picture of him on Chelsea, nonetheless. Miles Blues 02:03, 31 July 2007 (UTC)
Personal life section removal
[edit]There was one paragraph in it, about a drunk driving charge Essien ended up being cleared of. That does not describe Essien's personal life, so I removed the section. Miles Blues 01:46, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
Links Section
[edit]I cleaned up the links section, since there was a lot of unnecessary links there. A couple links just had career stats, so I left ESPN (which has stats and a profile), but removed the others that just listed stats (the same numbers as at ESPN). I removed a link to a fan forum. Also, 2 videos from the same site had broken links, so I removed those. Miles Blues 21:13, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
Transfer Saga?
[edit]The article makes reference to ending one of the longest transfer sagas in recent histroy, but yet no mention of any details of this are used in the article —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.150.163.169 (talk) 12:42, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
Country Honors
[edit]I have been trying add Essien's awards but it keep getting deleted. Its starting to get annoying. Who keeps deleting this and why?
Essien with the Ghana U-20 team won silver at the 2001 Youth World Cup Essien with Ghana won bronze at the 2008 African Cup of Nations & Essien with Ghana won silver at the 2010 African Cup of Nations Kobby 354 (talk) 14:50, 3 April 2010 (UTC)
- The facts are not in dispute, but it has become common practice to only include gold medals in the Honours section. Sorry dude. – PeeJay 02:40, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
Never African Footballer of the Year
[edit]Essien has never been named African Footballer of the year, but the article says he won two years in a row??? Rickwodz (talk) 13:24, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Infobox stats
[edit]Hi,
Could somebody correct the appearances/goals in the infobox. Surely he hasn't scored 80 goals in 50 internationals?!!—User:MDCollins (talk) 23:03, 12 February 2011 (UTC)
- Never mind, it was a more recent edit than I thought. I've undone it.—User:MDCollins (talk) 23:06, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Michaël Essien
[edit]Sometimes his name is written like this "Michaël Essien", so I added it as an extra and useful information. I'm not sure but I thing he received this French name because he acquired French citizenship, during his five-year stint in France. ΔΗΜΗΤΡΗΣ Κ (talk) 19:53, 27 November 2017 (UTC)
