Requested move 4 April 2018[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved as requested as a reversion to the stable title; please note that in such cases this can be done through a request at WP:RMTR. If a further move discussion is necessary, please proceed with that before making any subsequent moves. Dekimasuよ! 07:57, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mount Macdonald (Canada)Mount Macdonald – Page was at Mount Macdonald before being moved to create a dab page. I do not think the dab page is necessary, as it is a partial title match - the other mountain is called Mount McDonald. Any possible confusion can be resolved with hatnotes. Some facts and probably conclusions[edit]

Indeed, "a further move discussion is necessary".

Some facts.

I wrote a disambig Mount Macdonald. Only essential part of disambig, briefly, was as next:

One can see a log Mount Macdonald (Canada) and a log Mount Macdonald:

Some questions, about probably conclusions and demands

@Ymblanter: I need a competent decision.

Sorry, I have too little experience in enwiki's rules and practice, but in Ukrainian Wikipedia such activities are considering as destructive with conclusions

P.S. The term "hatnote" or "hat note" is absent in my vocabularies and in Google translate. It seems incorrect, I know only notes.

Well, contested moves need to be discussed, as simple as that. WP:RM might be the best way to proceed. There is nothing even remotely close to vandalism in the above edits.--Ymblanter (talk) 11:30, 6 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am happy to restore the history of the disambiguation page. However, it should be understood that there was only one title match on the disambiguation page at the time it was overwritten, per WP:D. Mount Macdonald (Antarctica) had yet to be created, and was a redlink with no link to any other article mentioning it; at the time of the deletion, it had already been removed by another editor. As seen above, the other link was a "see also" partial match that could be covered in a hatnote. Of course I would have moved the dab to Mount Macdonald (disambiguation) if there was reason to retain it at the time. Further, references should not be used on disambiguation pages. I am happy, too: there was no deliberate vandalism or falsification. But I do not understand something: only bot doesn't know WP:5P5, and fulfils the rules without thinking. On the contrary, by Descartes, "cogito ergo sum", a man exists when he thinks. IMHO, there was no necessity in any action / link in this chain, diff 1, ... and so on. Sorry. — Yuriy Dzyаdyk (tc), 18:29, 6 April 2018 (UTC).[reply]
Hi all, from my original move request, I only saw that there was a mountain named "Mount Macdonald" and a mountain named "Mount McDonald", so it appeared that those could have been resolved using hatnotes, and the disambiguation page was unnecessary. I actually was not sure why Dekimasu closed the RM so fast, but I suppose I was okay with it. I would not call my actions vandalism, as I only wished to serve up discussion on the page naming.
