Google Doodle 2020-05-19
[edit]I was wondering why today there's all of a sudden a surge in edit activity on the Nicholas Winton page. Answer: Winton is the subject of today's Google Doodle. --Roger Hui (talk) 20:15, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- Yes indeed. It seems the 1216th anniversary of the death of Alcuin was politely overlooked. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:17, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
Sidebar photo date
[edit]The photo in the sidebar of Mr. Winton is described of being him in Prague in October 10 2016. Yet the article is consistent in placing his death in 2015. Unless Mr. Winton has become a vampire one of these dates is clearly in error. 2600:8801:1280:3719:E95C:48A7:A335:CDF1 (talk) 20:02, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
That's Life
[edit]There's a better link for the program here, on the bbc https://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/nicholas_winton_on_thats_life/zbmxhbk
The events in the video don't quite match up with the article text. The video seems to come from two different episodes: Halfway through, the host has a total outfit change, the audience members sitting next to him have changed, and the video also has a date appear in the corner when the second clip starts.
Finally, and perhaps most obviously: the host mentions "We asked other people to get in touch", which doesn't really make sense if it's the first time the story was told.
It makes more sense with two episodes: On the first, he was invited on and reunited with three people they'd managed to trace. Then, in a following episode, they mention "We asked other people to get in touch, so, if your live was saved, please stand up." There isn't a second call for grandchildren or children to stand up, as mentioned in the article. Instead, the host asks everyone to return to their seats. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.101.133.16 (talk) 07:46, 28 January 2023 (UTC)
- I have altered the text, which was clearly incorrect. There are two different That's Life programmes involved: Winton is wearing different clothes and sitting next to different people. As noted above, Rantzen talks about having asked people to get in touch. The video that has allowed the conflation of the two events is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqqbM1B-mPY Stronach (talk) 09:55, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
Religion
[edit]I noticed that winton's listed in "English Atheist". As far as i see, no source on the wikipedia page mentions he's at all an atheist. At most is a now defunct page of him supposedly being disillusioned with religion, which does not at all imply atheism. Should this be removed? 2601:987:200:F470:50F5:3ED8:61D5:FA22 (talk) 19:24, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not sure why he has the Category:English atheists as there is nothing to support that claim in the article. All we have is: "
They also converted to Christianity, and Winton was baptised.[1]
So I suggest the Category is removed. Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 19:59, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
