The loss to Lucia Abdelgalim

[edit]

There has been some disagreement over Panchan Rina's most recent loss, so it might be prudent for members of the kickboxing task force and any other martial arts contributors on here, to discuss whether this fight should or shouldn't be included on her wikipedia record.

The sources cited under the "Arrest and comeback" section (1, 2) claim this fight shouldn't be considered as "official", as "...it was not held in a ring". The opinions of these two authors seems slightly strange to me however. If a fight taking place in a ring is the qualifier for what should be added to official records, any fight taking place in a cage or any other setting should be disqualified as well. As a matter of fact, writers at two other local news outlets (1, 2, 3) both note the contest as taking place under "kickboxing rules", as well as the fight being Panchan Rina's "first loss". Knockout Kickboxing, with whom she is currently contracted, have noted the fight as loss as well (Knockout Profile).

@Xfansd, @ShadessKB, @PhanKS1505, @Khonda8, I'd be grateful if you'd offer your opinions on this topic as well.

I was simply following what the only cited sources at the time stated, which is that it would not be counted. Someone has now cited a Tweet Rina made today where she (in addition to noting it was not in a ring) asks for it to be counted. So it seems to still be a current/developing thing.
This specific fight was put on by Ganryujima, which is an MMA promotion. So I concluded the reason sources like the ones you listed note it was "kickboxing rules" was simply to clarify that it was not an MMA match. I can't claim to be versed in how Japanese kickboxing operates. Are there not governing bodies that have to sanction fights? If so, did the MMA promotion have the fight properly sanctioned by a kickboxing governing body? Given the gimmicky nature of the whole event (green screen, people in costumes, including the referee), I don't think it's hard to see why people would doubt the legitimacy of the match. But with Rina and Knockout now counting it as a loss, then I have no problem with it being counted here too, while still noting how reliable publications stated otherwise. Any further developments in the future must also be noted and taken into consideration here tho. Xfansd (talk) 22:00, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also want to note that while the event was broadcast on May 3, 2024, it was not live as this source (1) says the match was to actually take place in April for later broadcast. Should this affect the date listed for the match in the record table? Xfansd (talk) 23:27, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The date of the contest seems fine to me. As for a kickboxing governing body, each major promotion is more or less self governed. There isn't any sanctioning body they necessarily have to adhere to. GameRCrom (talk) 19:34, 17 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
