@Tagishsimon:
Hi! I generally label things as an honor killing period (full stop). The chief detective inspector of the Greater Manchester Policehere labeled this particular crime an honor killing, with the BBC using the label in the title of its article about Al-Khatib's sentencing. The prosecutors indirectly said it was an honor killing too. Therefore the article should state it is an honor killing uncritically. Please see below:
Now there are a few things to keep in mind:
1. It is ok to not describe an act uncritically as an honor killing if post-conviction sources disagree on whether it is an honor killing, especially if the prosecutor never alleged it as such.
2. My understanding is that the majority of mainstream media sources describe honor killing as a distinct phenomenon. There may be a minority view that honor killings are not a distinct phenomenon, but as per Jimbo's quote at WP:NPOV articles should present majority views.
3. If the criminal defendant says that it is not an honor killing, but the prosecutor says it was an honor killing, the article shall say it is an honor killing if the court convicts the defendant (in accordance with Wikipedia:BLPCrime). In thus case the main defendant was convicted of murder, and so his allegations are deemed wrong unless his conviction is overturned.
I realise that Rania has been refereed to as Syrian in some outlets, maybe because she came to the UK directly from a refugee camp in Syria or maybe she was born in a refugee camp there - but it's my understanding that she was actually ethnically Palestinian. I'm hesitant to change the article though, as I'm not sure that my sources are good enough. I'll pop the sources here for comment.
