This _is_ the discussion page for Roza Otunbayeva, what do you mean? Chris 03:06, 7 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling

[edit]

Otunbaeva or Otunbayeva? The article now uses both randomly, but a quick Google News search suggests that the -yeva form is about 10x more common. Jpatokal (talk) 00:59, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"-yeva" is correct: after a vowel, "e" becomes "ye" (see WP:RUS). I updated the article and made everything consistent. -- Hux (talk) 01:19, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Can we really list her as acting president yet? The overthrow hasn't even been authenticated. 98.229.88.151 (talk) 15:20, 8 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sentence is unclear - please fix

[edit]

The article contains this sentence: "She returned to her original post in 1994, remaining there for 3 years." But it is not clear what her "original post" was. Senior professor of philosophy? Second secretary?

Can someone who knows this information please fix this sentence so that it's clear?

fluent in english

[edit]

I just watched her interview on al jazeera, and i would dispute this. it was not fluent. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.86.74.52 (talk) 22:17, 9 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've known her for 15 years, and she is fluent. --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 12:57, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Chris have you watched that interview on al jazeera (you can search on youtube.com) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.72.199.19 (talk) 10:40, 21 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ethnicity

[edit]

Is Ms. Otunbayeva ethnically a Kyrgyz or an Uzbek? -- 58.147.52.243 (talk) 00:17, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kyrgyz, why do you ask? --Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 03:58, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Because of the ethnic overtones of the 2010 South Kyrgyzstan riots. I understand from what I have read that class structure is apparently more of an issue than ethnicity, and that Ms. Otunbayeva seems to be doing all in her power to bring the violence to a halt. -- 58.147.52.243 (talk) 07:11, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes to both. Kyrgyzstan has 16 ethnicities, few really care, but the divide between haves and have-nots is huge. When I lived there, Roza's pride was that the people themselves stopped the 1990s riots in a matter of weeks.--Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) (talk) 12:03, 16 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.

The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.

Please help us determine consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 17:14, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
