Nationality!
[edit]Question: Sen's nationality can not be Bangladeshi. It must be either be Indian or more correctly British Indian. --Tito Dutta ✉ 12:29, 22 June 2012 (UTC)
- Exactly, back then there was no country as Bangladesh. Its clear, I don't think we need a discussion. -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 17:30, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- It can't be British Indian. British Indians are citizens of UK from India. What you think ? -- ɑηsuмaη ʈ ᶏ ɭ Ϟ 18:25, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- this discussion has popped up a few times in the past. Technically, he was a subject of British India. If he had a passport, it would carry the name "British India" and "Indian empire".
- however, we are not just talking technicality here. In Wikipedia we follow already established conventions, and do not create convention. So, as ansunan has pointed out, in today's language, British Indian means Indians living in UK, by convention. So, Surjya Sen's nationality, if Ut is mentioned in the article, should be Indian, as that is the convention followed by historians in the real world. Similar conversation took place in the talk page of Rabindranath Tagore recently. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 18:34, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

Copyvio issues!
[edit]I can see a copyvio investigation is currently going on. It was tagged on 2 November. After that someone removed the template multiple times (inappropriately?) and again the copyvio template has been restored. This is an important article, currently, after the release of the film Chittagong (film) we expect to get lots of traffic in this article. Can someone complete the investigation quickly or if needed I can do a complete clean start in this article! --Tito Dutta (talk) 08:42, 18 November 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, this is a copyright problem and has been since 2005, when it was first created. While the article has been expanded since then, it remains a derivative work of that source, including some remaining copy-pasted material. If you are able to do a complete clean start, that would be ideal. Please just place it here. Let me know when you're done, and I'll get this one back into publication as soon as possible! Thank you! --Moonriddengirl (talk) 11:17, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- On it right now! --Tito Dutta (talk) 11:24, 19 November 2012 (UTC) A.Az434 5:54, 27 October 2019 (GMT) ::The birthdate information is confusing because, on by Cambridge Edition History Book, it is written March 22 1894, on the search engine the same, but on this page, it is written 18 October 1893.

Edit warring by Za-ari-masen
[edit]What @Fylindfotberserk: edited is the best version here. If there was no such thing as “Indian”, why would there be British India? Why was “India” recognized as Founding member of the Olympics, League of Nations, or UN? 2600:1001:B012:2F78:9E6:8068:F07C:1676 (talk) 13:10, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
- The term "Indian" only refers to the citizens of Republic of India in modern context, calling him Indian would only be misleading as Surya Sen died well before Republic of India came into being. If you trust Flyindfotberserk why not let him edit this article, why are you edit warring here? Za-ari-masen (talk) 13:41, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
- The onus is on you. When an editor makes a well sourced change, you should come to talk and discuss before engaging in edit warring. Let Fylindfotberserk have their say. 174.225.7.86 (talk) 14:12, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
- You Za-ari-masen are partially blocked user. What you are doing now should result in a complete topic ban for you. 174.225.7.86 (talk) 14:14, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
- As per WP:ETHNICITY, only Nationality should be mentioned in the lead. And "Indian" as a "nation" existed back then. Consider checking GA status article Mahatma Gandhi. No mention of his Gujarati ethnicity in the lead. - Fylindfotberserk (talk) 14:38, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
