2003–2005: Later Years
[edit]There are parts of this section which don't make sense. It's impossible to correct as the original intentions of the author(s) can't be known. Proofread and copyediting recommended. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.227.114.140 (talk) 19:47, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

I have done the first two albums and managed to blend in the Special Edition information - which interestingly had half been done anyway. Kevinalewis 15:36, 6 December 2005 (UTC)
I have done the next two albums (up to "In Blue") and managed to blend in the Special Edition information - which was far less in this case done anyway. Kevinalewis 11:52, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Actually I have already done a basic job on the latest 2 so only "The Best Of The Corrs" and "VH1 Presents: The Corrs, Live In Dublin" are still to do

Height
[edit]My father has personally seen the Corrs and can guarantee that Jim Corr is at least 2 inches shorter than Andrea

The Future?
[edit]The future of The Corrs is currently unknown. No shit, really?
Sorry for that reaction, however this doesn't suit an encyclopedic article. I'm afraid I don't know enough about them to edit this myself, but this looks like it needs cleaning up Sargant 20:19, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, the statement is unencyclopedic. I believe this biography was based from The Corrs Online's extensive biography of the band. The article is comprehensive albeit featurized so as to highlight on the band. If this is the case, then it should be cited as a reference.
- Besides, this page needs more updating. More events have happened recently. The section about their future should be deleted, the contents should be included in the history section. I also suggest adding a trivia section.

Just tidied up the award of the MBE to the members of the band, and changed the year to 2005. This is a revert, but the timesonline article says 2005, and so does the 'The corrs online' fan website. 193.132.127.68 16:37, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Folk Rock?
[edit]Would someone care to have a go at explaing what elements of "rock" are to be found in this most twee of pop bands? Or even "folk" for that matter, apart from a number of weak folkey cover versions they have recorded. The Corrs are not remotely folk rock and cannot be compared to the likes of Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Fairport Convention, Nick Drake nor any others I can think of in this genre. The Corrs are more akin to Daniel O'Donnell than the above. O'Donnell has covered folk songs and rock 'n' roll classics during his time: is he folk rock too, then? They are a pop group, pure and simple. Nothing wrong with that. Guv2006 14:29, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Um, you haven't heard their new album have you? Songs in Gaelic? Tin Whistle? Irish Drum? Fiddle Playing? Incorporating traditional irish melodies into their previous album tracks and as encore to other tracks? Their *first* track, on the back of the cd reads: "Erin Shore [Traditional Instrumental]". "Paddy McCarthy" on 'Talk On Corners'? They started more traditional on their first album, gradually moved further away with each album up to 'Borrowed Heaven', then they went in completely the opposite direction and did a purely traditional album 'Home'. Keep your personal music preferences out of it. If you're that desperate, they're folk pop/rock. NB. I'm not as angry as i sound =). --IceflamePhoenix 10:56, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
I don't think the term "Folk Rock" is entirely exclusive to the United States. Broaden your definitions of the term. Remember, they aren't from the U.S.! Happy listening! Tarkin —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.140.134.249 (talk) 22:19, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
Singles Chart Info
[edit]It is not clear what a blank entry in the singles chart table represents. Does it mean that (a) the single was not released in that country, or (b) the single was released but it did not chart, or (c) the compiler of this table did not have the information? --86.9.25.205 10:41, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
Caroline's drums credit
[edit]Would 81.34.147.69 please care to say why he has removed Caroline's drums credit. Is it because she is playing drums a lot less less since becoming a mum? Or is it because she was (allegedly) replaced by session drummers on the first 2 albums? She is credited as drummer on all Corrs albums (plus many of the singles) apart from the most recent one - Home. She can be seen playing on DVDs such as Live at the Albert Hall and Landsdown Road. I went to 2 of their concerts (1999 & 2001) and Caroline played drums throughout (obviously apart from the acoustic numbers). It is only recently that she has not been playing. But surely an encyclopedia article about a band should reflect their entire career rather than being weighted towards their latest release. Please explain. --Kev 10:08, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
I have reinstated the drums credit. --Kev 19:13, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
It's been deleted again. WHY? --Kev 16:13, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
The credits for the Corrs' first album list three drummers in addition to Caroline; the second album lists four. This does suggest that on a substantial number of tracks either she does not play, or her playing is augmented by others. Tsuguya (talk) 09:58, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Vandalism - please revert

Recent edits
[edit]I felt it necessary to add Ireland back in to the intro, as an Irish rock band doesn't necessarily have to come from Ireland. I also removed the albums and singles, as they should be on the linked discography page, and cleaned up the trivia a bit. MSJapan 02:14, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit]Could you add: http://www.thecorrs-site.piczo.com ? It's a great fan page with lots of pictures of their career, since their beginings! It also has info, discography, lyrics, etc. Thanks
Fan sites does not count as a reliable source nor a "external site" for more information because they generally tend to be biased. So no. - Omghgomg 08:51, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Album Sales
[edit]I really, really doubt they've sold so many albums. Not one of the records is correct. How did Talk on Corners sold so many albums in 1 year? Last time I heard it had sold about 8 million copies. And I remember Borrowed Heaven didn't do well at all... so where does all those sales come from? Irish Scott 14:27, 31 May 2007(UTC)

GA nomination on hold
[edit]- The URL option in the infobox should simply have the website's URL (http://www.thecorrswebsite.com/), it shouldn't be formatted as it currently is (The Corrs' Official Website).
- Done I've shortened it to www.thecorrswebsite.com/
- Instruments aren't noted for groups in the infobox.
- Done
- Individual years (such as 1990) shouldn't be wikilinked (infobox).
- Done
- Ref 1 needs publisher, accessdate, the full works. {{cite web}} is recommended. Same for refs 2 and 3.
- Done
- "The Corrs are currently on hiatus because Sharon, Jim, and Caroline are raising their children and Andrea is currently pursuing a solo career.[7][8]" - Overuse of "currently", try changing to "The Corrs are currently on hiatus, as Sharon Jim, and Caroline are rasising families, while Andrea is pursuing a solo career."
- Done
- "which played songs by ABBA and The Eagles in local pubs[11] where they would often bring along their children.[12]" - Some sort of punctuation is needed before ref 11, or else move it to the end of the sentence.
- I have rephrased this sentence, so please check it if it flows well.
- "Their career took off in 1991 when they auditioned for the film The Commitments." - Link to 1991 in music isn't necessary.
- Done
- "The band enjoyed success in Ireland until 1994, when the band became known internationally" - 1994 link not necessary.
- Done
- Wikilink for gig?
- Done Okay
- "After an appearance at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, [20] The Corrs joined Celine Dion's worldwide Falling into You Tour as a supporting act.[21][22]" - There shouldn't be a space between the comma and ref 20. Same later on with ref 26.
- Done
- "Eventually, the album reached platinum status in the United Kingdom[24]" - Ref needs to be on top of some punctuation, eg a comma. Same later with ref 29.
- Why??
- Ref 21 needs publisher, accessdate, etc.
- Done
- Don't need a 1997 in music or 1998 in music (or indeed any others) wlink.
- I didn't check for this, but I think I've removed all instances of these wikilinks when I edited through the whole article.
- "The artists that participated were: Jon Bon Jovi, Natalie Cole, Pino Daniele, Céline Dion, Florent Pagny, Eros Ramazzotti, Spice Girls, Vanessa L. Williams, Stevie Wonder, Trisha Yearwood and Zucchero.[31]" - I don' see how this better explains the Corrs article, I'd remove it.
- I've kept it. There is no article about the Pavarotti concert yet, so it's probably better to start an article on this, using this info.
- Refs 37 and 38 need publisher info etc. Same for ref 50.
- Done
- Second paragraph of "2000-2002: Mainstream success" section has several instances of refs without punctuation.
- Why? How it was phrased was perfect, listing country by country. Why must the refs be before commas, etc?
- "behind U2’s "The Best of 1980-1990" and Oasis' "Be Here Now".[44]" - Album titles should be in italics, not quotation marks.
- Done Yep!
- I think refs 46 and 47 should be switched around ;)
- Done Thanks!
- "such as the single "Would You Be Happier", "Make You Mine" and "Lifting Me".[51] " - plural, "singles"
- Done
- "The album did not chart high in Ireland " - change "high" to "highly" or "well"
- Done - changed to "highly"
- "The album returned to the folk rock genre with a slightly more heavier emphasis on guitars.[4]" remove the word "more"
- Done
- Ref 57 needs a comma or something (neither should 5 or 65 in the next paragraph), ref 63 shouldn't have a space between it and the full stop. Ref 82 should be after (not before) the full stop.
- What, what and what? Again, these refs are fine as they are without commas, they fit in well with the sentences they are in.
- "Home had very little success outside Ireland and only managed to reach silver status in the UK.[69]" - Remove "managed to", change "reach" to "reached"
- Reworded it to "and was certified silver in the United Kingdom".
- Ref placement in "2006-present: Children and a solo career" section has issues with spaces, punctuation etc.
- Umm..... no comment.
- Second paragraph of that section, dealing with Andrea's releases, is in too much depth - the song's article, as well as (maybe) her article, can cover that.
- Strongly agreed. It should belong to its article, "Shame on You (to Keep My Love from Me)", it can be expanded there.
- "The Corrs released another compilation album, The Works. The album consists of three CD's which feature previously-released songs. It performed worse than its predecessor, failing to chart at all." - Source/Ref?
- Done - I copied the refs used in The Corrs discography.
- Ref 79 is no longer relevant, as the page updates weekly.
- Removed.
- See Also link to "List of celebrities who have been awarded the Order of the British Empire" isn't necessary, there's a category covering that.
- Done
- Is there a relevant portal that can be linked to in the see also section, using {{portal}}. Eg. Music of Ireland/Folk Music Portal?
- No.
A few general comments not necessary for this GA review;
- A musical style section would be necessary before going for FA.
- The philanthropy section should be expanded with more content on each of the concerts. See, for example, Powderfinger, an otherwise very similar article (featured).
- A short paragraph describing their award wins (for the "Awards" section) would help, again see Powderfinger#Awards.
- The Awards page needs some improving as well! Maybe this could be a future project of mine. RaNdOm26 (talk) 12:29, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
- The band members are presented in a different order when comparing the infobox to the lead, and to the template. Standardising this would be good. Again, compare Powderfinger and {{Powderfinger}}.

honor or honour?
[edit]The first time this word was added was here, as honor. But perhaps as we're dealing with an Irish band it should be spelt as honour - i.e. British (or Irish) English. To talk about an honorary MBE seemed strange to me. Edgepedia (talk) 09:07, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Something seriously wrong with hyperlink to "rebel heart"
[edit]I believe I am vindicated after all because I found a serious glitch. I am replacing my previous messages with the current one: my previous message implied there was not sufficient emphasis on some of the wonderful instrumental pieces like "Rebel heart". That lack of attention has allowed an error to fall through the cracks: the hyperlink to "rebel heart" by the Corrs within the wikipedia section In Blue actually points to an album by the American country singer Dan Seals which is also called "Rebel heart". There has been a confusion of these two VERY different pieces of work. Someone has to fix this. Where is the wikipedia link to the actual piece "rebel heart" by the Corrs? Does it exist? If you have to write it, while you're at it, a few words concerning e.g. Sharon Corr's classical abilities with the violin and the general excellence of the Corrs talent (as I requested earlier) would be more than appropriate (ok, I admit it - I am fan - I love what they do).
- Response was too slow. I decided to be bold and fixed the hyperlink myself. You have to distinguish "Rebel Heart" the song from Dan Seals' album "Rebel Heart". I hope that the Google referencing will now fix itself. The actual description for the Corrs song is minimal but at least it's there.
- It took a while - I fixed the hyperlink in 4 different locations - and now a google search of "the Corrs rebel heart and wikipedia" now places the Corr's song "Rebel Heart" above the album by Dan Seals, as it should IMHO. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.107.239.233 (talk) 20:48, 25 October 2009 (UTC)
Fixed/Added hyperlink to song "What Can I do?"
[edit]To my surprise, even though there is a Wikipedia article on the Corrs song "What Can I Do?", neither this article nor any of the albums had hyperlinks to this song. I have fixed that. I also found out that the album chronology w.r.t. the albums i.e. the boxes on the right with the picture of the album were actually wrong in many cases. The Portuguese versions were better in this regard! Now, the English, French and Portuguese versions are in agreement (as they should be - after all, time is universal) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.33.24.252 (talk) 09:00, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Citation for the upcoming album
[edit]I provided a citation in which Sharon (not Andrea!) Corr stated that The Corrs "may do something next year". That means she doesn't make use of the word "album". However, in another and even more recent source written in French (http://www.gameblog.fr/blogs/igblog/p_20201_the-corrs-nouvel-album-en-2011) Jim Corr confirmed, that the band will start to compose for their new album soon - at least this is what the Google translation tells me, because I can not read French. Maybe someone can verify this and put it into the article? - GT-Schorsch (talk) 04:46, 17 December 2010 (UTC)
- Unfortutely your French link doesn't look very reliable; it's a blog and Wikipedia doesn't like blogs and even then it appears to be someone (who?) saying that Jim has said that the group has started to write new songs ... I've edited the article to reflect what Sharon said in the interview ... i.e. MAYBE something next year. Edgepedia (talk) 13:28, 17 December 2010 (UTC)

The prose is not very good and the article as a whole lacks a consistent flow. A thorough copy-edit would be beneficial. The article does not appear to have been updated for nearly a year. I believe that in its present state the article does not meet the GA criteria, so should be de-listed as there is a clear consensus to do so. Jezhotwells (talk) 19:58, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
- Citations to acharts.us should probably be replaced.
- What makes the following reliable sources?
- There are a ton of dead links.
- Citations to Amazon and IMDb should be removed. If all you need to cite is the track listing, use Allmusic.
- The infobox shouldn't have had the dates in it (i.e., how long they were signed to each label). I removed these.
Overall, it's obvious the article isn't being maintained (mainly the extreme linkrot, but also the ancient League of Copy Editors tag that was drive-by-tagged). Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 22:03, 12 September 2011 (UTC)
- I agree that the article is in poor shape, I notified the primary contributor, but they do have a semi-retired notice. Jezhotwells (talk) 00:16, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- I have also notified the projects. Jezhotwells (talk) 00:21, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- There are quite a few MOS issues (although not all of these need disqualify GA status) including those in: WP:Not #, WP:YEAR, Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Italics and WP:ORDINAL. More significant for GA status are the issues in WP:Title, the many deadlinks and handful of missing citations already mentioned above. The writing style is a bit of a problem as well and needs a copy edit. This is a bit more than I am prepared to dip in and fix quickly I am afraid.--SabreBD (talk) 09:48, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- I have also notified the projects. Jezhotwells (talk) 00:21, 13 September 2011 (UTC)
- If it was just the dead links they could be fixed up relatively easily, but too many of the references used are not reliable and finding replacements is a harder task. As no one seems to be interested in saving this I suggest delisting. AIRcorn (talk) 01:04, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
hiatus since 2006/recent years
[edit]Somehow the information from recent years seem to be missing, the group might be on hiatus since 2006 as far as the production of albums is concerned, they do however gave various concerts after 2006 (which can be found on youtube for instance).--Kmhkmh (talk) 01:41, 15 August 2014 (UTC)
