Merge

[edit]

I have boldly merged Verma into Varma. The former article acknowledged "Varma" as being an alternate version, and the latter article has far more content and no worse sourcing. There is no point in us having two articles that are effectively duplicating content/sources/explanations etc. That said, Varma needs some work, just as Verma did - sources & decent copyediting would be a good thing, and finding a way to reduce the repetitive use of "kshatriya" would be an absolute bonus. - Sitush (talk) 21:18, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed there is another page Varman (surname). I think this page should be merged with that. Please comment. Sudarshanhs (talk) 12:01, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The merge was probably a bad idea. The name sources are very different, and it results in confusion. Varma (fenno-scandic) should be separate from Verma (indian) although both should cross reference to be sure. In any case, things are now quite a mess... it would have been better to have discussed it first in the Talk section rather than inducing upheaval. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.242.196.123 (talk) 10:17, 16 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Parashar Grahe Sutra

[edit]

What is the Parashar Grahe Sutra? I have tried Googling it and can find nothing but mirrors etc. The context of its use suggests an old text, perhaps from Sangam literature, but we need something on which to hang a citation. - Sitush (talk) 21:45, 16 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Oh I think you are referring to parAshara-gruhya-sUtra (पराशरगृह्यसूत्रम् in Devanagari). It is a rulebook of social laws pertaining during sometime in pre-medieval India. Why do you ask? Sudarshanhs (talk) 11:39, 24 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Page move: Electric Boogaloo

Requested move 13 November 2019

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. There seems to be agreement that the (unrelated) surname and given name should not be covered in the same article, and that re-creation of the given name article may be appropriate. (non-admin closure) Colin M (talk) 22:18, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Varma (surname)Varma (name) – So Varma (given name) was deleted again, this time without discussion. The problem here is that Varma (name) was a good title, but then some Verschlimmbesserwisser went and moved it to exclude the first name and then delete the article about the first name. So, logically, the best course of action is to return to the status quo ante bellum where both topics inhabit the same article. vuo (talk) 00:58, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I just noticed it was salted as well, that should be undone ASAP as there is no justification for that. —Xezbeth (talk) 07:13, 13 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ordinarily when an article gets recreated after an afd its expected that the article comes back in a vastly different state, but that didn't happen here so I assumed that this case was one of the 9/10 cases where either IDHT or NOTHERE apply and salted so that the creator would give up. Apparently though this is that 1/10 which actually has merit. I'll unsalt the article, but I'd advise that the afd be addressed through a proper venue as there is a wuestion of procedure here as it relates to the csd-G4 tag. @TomStar81: - Thanks - may I have the deleted content? Ingratis (talk) 14:52, 15 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Particular Caste Group

[edit]

If anyone wants to associate Verma to a particular caste group or a precise location, kindly discuss here before doing this. YaarVerma (talk) 15:21, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

We don't cite such sources, especially in caste & related articles! Please avoid any original research; read WP:OR! Thanks. Ekdalian (talk) 17:35, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
