Mohammed bin Salman Project for Developing Historical Mosques[1] Arabic: مشروع محمد بن سلمان لتطوير المساجد التاريخية, It was announced in 2018, with the support and guidance of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense. His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz attaches great importance to this project, as mosques have Historicity has a great place in the Islamic religion, in addition to being one of the most important features of the urban cultural heritage, and for the originality of the urban cultural heritage. Its architectural character, and the historical, cultural and social depth of the mosques included in the program.

The project contributes to highlighting the cultural dimension of the Kingdom on which the Saudi Vision 2030 focuses, by preserving the original urban characteristics and using them in developing the design of modern mosques.[2]

About project[edit]

The project includes the rehabilitation and restoration of 130 historical mosques in various regions of the Kingdom. The first phase of it, which included the rehabilitation of 30 mosques at a total cost of more than 50 Million SAR, was completed by Saudi companies specialized in heritage buildings, and under the supervision of Saudi engineers to verify the preservation of the building. The authentic urban identity of each mosque since its foundation.
