T'Pol
[edit]The Internet Archive might have the page in its database, if people prefer a promotional image though I won't upload a screen capture. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 17:51, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- I hope you're not getting the wrong idea about me, I'm pro-fair use and will do the best I can if it means we can keep images we need to make articles better. T'Pol's article at startrek.com actually has a cropped version of the image if that's any good. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 17:59, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Hi, 23skidoo. I'm afraid we can't use this image, then. Please, read my comments in User_talk:MatthewFenton#Comments on image. Best regards, --Abu badali (talk) 18:44, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Personally I've no doubt it is a promo image and that it's valid fair use (and I have actually been trying to get it kept) - there seems to be a lack of assuming good faith towards uploaders these days, I'd hate to see you leave Wiki over this though. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 19:36, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Also, the only way to keep our fair use images is to work together to save them, people don't realise they want to eradicate all fair use, thus we must combat this by not allowing them to. An example is at Kristen Bell, someone wished to replace this with a very smudged low quality grainy picture (since deleted from commons), I combated this by uploading this and moving the image into the Career section. Thus it complied with the FUC, the fair use policers lost, also recently "concluded" is List of Heroes episodes, the fair use police lost there as well. thanks/Fenton, Matthew Lexic Dark 52278 Alpha 771 19:45, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit]Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the general protocol is that you are only responsible for relinking double redirects. Otherwise, page links will get moved by interested users. Generally, if less than 10 or 12 links are involved I do the moves as a courtesy. In this case, there are more than double that many. I may get around to moving them, but it is not my responsibility as I understand it. TonyTheTiger 19:55, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Pierce Brosnan as Simon Templar?
[edit]Hi there,
I noticed you're a frequent contributer to the Simon Templar article so I figured you're probably the best person to ask my query. I noticed it mentioned that Brosnan was rumoured to play Templar during the mid-80s. Was there any reputable coverage on this or has it always been a rumour? If the former, is there any online source that could be used as a reference. I'm currently working on the Brosnan article and for now, I've mentioned the rumour but I think I'll remove it if there's no source to be given. Thanks. :-) -- Britishagent 00:00, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for your speedy reply! Do you think it would be OK if I put that Entertainment Tonight reported it, even if there's no online source to link to? -- Britishagent 00:30, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. I just copypasted from the URL of the page. I should have known better, but I was feeling frustrated at the number of cases where I'll look at a link and find that it either points to a dab or, worse, points to the wrong link. This dead link could have been a good one if the writer had taken a minute to check for options. Grr...
Anyhow, thanks for the reminder.
Regards,

Helping out with the Unassessed Wikipedia Biographies
[edit]Seeing that you are an active member of the WikiBiography Project, I was wondering if you would help lend a hand in helping us clear out the amount of unassessed articles tagged with {{WPBiography}}. Many of them are of stub and start class, but a few are of B or A caliber. Getting a simple assessment rating can help us start moving many of these biographies to a higher quality article. Thank you! --Ozgod 20:05, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

RE: USMC film list
[edit]You have commented on the AFD discussion for List of films featuring United States Marines, the discussion can be viewed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of films featuring United States Marines.
Following support for my suggestion, I have done a userspace rewrite of the article at User:Saberwyn/Films featuring the United States Marine Corps, with the rewritten article in the top half and the current article with annotations as to their inclusion or non-inclusion in the rewritten list.
I would like to request that you review the rewritten article, and if you think it is appropriate, amend your stance at the AFD discussion. -- saberwyn 11:58, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
The Saint changes
[edit]Yes, I saw that about an hour ago and was about to intervene when I decided that you would do a better job of it. It seemed very strange to me, but mostly childish enthusiasm, I suppose, not vandalism. But *wrong*. So I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for this stuff and I'll revert as necessary.... Are you still reading any Don Hamilton? Hayford Peirce 04:34, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Fumetti -- old Life Mag. Saint sequence
[edit]I didn't know the word "fumetti" until I saw you using it. That jogged my memory to back when I was in prep school 1956-59 -- our wonderful school library had a complete collection of Life Magazines (on open shelves, yet! [Those were the great old days!]) In a 1941 issue, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the mystery story, they had a fumetti with Charteris playing the Saint in the Palm Springs story. Even at age 14 or 15 I couldn't swallow the notion of the Saint being a Eurasian gentleman, no matter how debonair or handsome, hehe. Are there any of these pix available in some way that they could be stuck into Wikipedia at some point? Hayford Peirce 04:44, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Huntin' and fishin'
[edit]I remember years ago seeing a collection of Hamilton's stuff on this and I sneered at it. Now I regret not having bought it -- I'm sure that he could have made it very interesting even to someone like me who basically has no interest in it at all. As someone has written, Robert A. Heinlein could have made even his laundry list compelling reading. Hayford Peirce 04:47, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Saint box at Val Kilmer article
[edit]I just saw that your elaborate box at the bottom of the Saint articles that lists all the books etc. has been appended to the bottom of the Val Kilmer article. I assume by the same editor who stuck in the Kilmer pix here and there. You know far more about this than I, but I assume that this should probably be deleted as its relevance to the actor strikes me as very minor.... Hayford Peirce 18:47, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Claire
[edit]Sorry, but I've removed your recent edit to Claire Bennet. It's not something we can verify, plus the type of wound isn't really comparable to a stake through the head. (The bullet isn't necessarily an obstacle to healing - people have recovered from shootings while still carrying part or all of the bullet inside their body.) --Ckatzchatspy 20:29, 28 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well, you're certainly free to restore it if you wish. However, the first half could use some rewording to avoid the "would seem to" and the second half (" but her body ejects the bullet through her mouth rather than through the actual wound location") shouldn't be there. (We have no knowledge of what the bullet wound is like inside - whether it ended up in her throat, or lung, if there's an internal "exit" to the wound, or anything like that.) --Ckatzchatspy 21:10, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

- Well, I just looked through the Wikipedia:Attribution page and, not knowing what it looked like, say, 6 months ago, I gotta say that it sounds reasonable to me, at least just off the top of my head. Are there passages in there that are *radically* different from what appeared before? Ones that will cause half the Wikipedia articles to disappear entirely if these new standards are applied? Just asking, because I dunno. If say, zealous editors now come along and say: "You have to document that Pancho Gonzales was actually a tennis player, and we have to have sources for his date of birth and death," then that means every sentence in every article will have to have a footnote on it. Say it ain't so, Joe.... Hayford Peirce 16:21, 5 March 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, I did indeed mean to leave it here, since this was the first time I heard about it and I figured that you would know a lot more about it than I do. The question seems to be, now that I've looked into it a little more, a dispute between "truth" and "accuracy", which, of course, are two different things. Although there may well be other issues involved also. As you said, on my page, if this becomes much more onerous, then I'm outta here also. Let's hope that the zealots can be restrained. Hayford Peirce 16:45, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

23skidoo locks AJ wiki page from all non-admin edits
[edit]I have locked the page from all non-admin edits until a consensus has been reached. Once again I invite Lilkunta and any other interested parties to please discuss the issues here. Requested changes can be made by admins until such time as this article is unlocked. This decision was reached when I saw that Lilkunta had reinstated several of the edits without any apparent attempt to seek consensus, as he was requested to do by me on the user's talk page. 23skidoo 20:06, 19 March 2007 (UTC) You posted to me after you locked the page so you did not give me a chance. Did you also tell this message to EnemyOfTheState? I feel s/he acts as if he owns the page. The history shows he repeatedly changes what others add, as if s/he only knows what should be added.Lilkunta
Pax's birthday is UNKNOWN! Take the info off.
[edit]Pax's DOB has not been released. Change the info. EnemyOfTheState added this erroneous info as part of his continued domination of this AJ wiki page. The ref all say Nov 03, that is all we know at this time. I think this is good 4/as the last 2 paragraphs of that section:
- On March 15,2007, Jolie adopted a three-year-old boy from Vietnam. Pax Thien Jolie was born in November 2003 as Pham Quang Sang and abandoned at birth at a local hospital [1]. His new name means "peaceful sky" in two languages: Pax means "peace" in Latin and Thien is Vietnamese for "sky"[2]. She collected the boy from the Tam Binh orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City [3].
- Jolie told Vietnam's Ho Chi Minh City Law newspaper: "I will stay at home to help Pax adjust to his new life. I have four children and caring for them is the most important thing for me at the moment. I'm very proud and happy to be their mother." [4] [5].Lilkunta
Repeated edits/Enemyofstate DOMINATION of this AJ wiki page.
[edit]I feel EnemyOfTheState, s/he acts as if he owns the page. The history shows he repeatedly changes what others add, as if s/he only knows what should be added.
S/he repeatedly added incorrect info (pax's DOB). I checked both the ref and they say Nov 03, his day of birth is not given. Please check that and correct it. I corrected it & s/he changed it back.
S/he repeatedly deleted AJ's GG awards.S/he said th years are wrong. I triple checked the years and returned the GG award info, but still s/he deleted the info. Please check this.
Replies
[edit]- Please post any requests for changes to the AJ article to the AJ talk page rather than to my talk page. I'm not the only admin watching it, so they could make changes on a more timely basis. I'll check that DOB issue with Pax and handle it accordingly. In reply to another message you posted, yes I did notify Enemy of the State that I had locked the article and have also requested he discuss changes on the talk page, although it should be noted that he was in fact already doing so, so it was more a formality that I notified him about it. In addition, it appears you might be inserting comments/replies into older postings by Enemy of the State and others. I recommend against that as the usual Wikipedia format is to start a new paragraph at the bottom of the thread to discuss replies (as I am doing now). The format you're using runs the risk of simply not being read nor paid attention to (although your use of a different color does help). 23skidoo 16:50, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
Good afternoon,I did post on the AJ disc page. I didnt know you check it so I posted here also. I will post on AJ's page only since you check it.
1)O ok. Both links/refs say Nov 03 so I dont know where s/he got Nov 29 from. Also, did what do you think of the revision to the final paragraph of the children section?
2)O ok. Do you think his numerous edits/rv of others changes are much? An example is how Sli723added AJ's GG noms which s/he kept taking(reverting) out. S/he pointed out incorrect dates and rv'd but was not willing to correct the dates.
3) I didnt want to start a new secion for each point, so I replied underneath. But you say it is okay to start a new section for each point s/he mentioned? Thanks

Modesty Blaise
[edit]Hello,
I've added "Plot summaries" for the first two books in the series. Is my writing style acceptable?
If so, would it be OK for me to completely replace the plot summary currently posted for "I, Lucifer"? To my mind it does not really reflect the main theme of the book, and doesn't even mention our leading protagonists.
Rennie —The preceding unsigned comment was added by RenniePet (talk • contribs) 22:15, 7 April 2007 (UTC).
I've now replaced the plot summary for I, Lucifer.
Would it be a good idea to replace some of the book cover pictures? The paperback book covers are often very garish and imply things that are not correct for the Modesty books. I could replace the pictures with pictures of the original hardcover editions.
--RenniePet 10:50, 8 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi. I've now replaced the cover pictures for Sabre-Tooth, I, Lucifer, A Taste for Death and The Impossible Virgin.
(And I've re-replaced the first three, because my first efforts were too dark. You're welcome to criticize the pictures, esp. the colors, as I'm partially color-blind and maybe the pictures I upload have wrong colors - if so I'll get someone to help me with them.)
I'll get around to the others in a day or two.
As for the first book, would it be an acceptable compromise to put the first edition cover picture on the page about the book, and keep the American hardcover picture on the general page about Modesty Blaise?
--RenniePet 19:04, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
Hi again. I've now replaced the cover pictures for The Silver Mistress, Last Day in Limbo, Dragon's Claw and The Xanadu Talisman.
--RenniePet 10:21, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
All done (almost? maybe?). Please see what I've written on the Talk:Modesty Blaise page. Note that I've replaced your pictures for The Night of Morningstar, Dead Man's Handle and Cobra Trap. --RenniePet 21:17, 17 April 2007 (UTC)
Forgot to mention that the reason why I deleted the comment about the cover paperback edition of Dead Man's Handle being unique in feature a comic-strip style Modesty is that I think it is the same drawing as from the first editon hardcover editon, and that the style isn't all that different from the way Modesty is drawn on the covers of the preceeding 3-4 hardcover first editions. --RenniePet 21:29, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

I think something has changed in the Wikipedia system
[edit]I think something has changed in the Wikipedia system
- I think something has changed in the Wikipedia system, however, because on my talk page where you had the colored font, suddenly the formatting became all messed up (particularly the subheads) and it was only fixed when I removed the color change. It wasn't doing it before when you left messages and we were discussing things re:Angelina Jolie; it's only started in the last few days and I checked other people's additions to my talk page since your previous message and they didn't have any coding that should have messed things up. So my first impression was that Wiki changed the coding somehow. I noticed the color was also removed from the Angelina Jolie talk page but I've been offline for a few days so I don't know if a similar mess-up was occuring there. Please leave a test message on my talk page; I'm curious to see if it is in fact your coding that's doing it or if maybe it was something else. I don't see any problems on your talk page here with your use of the color so this is a bit of a puzzle. 23skidoo 01:02, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Evening 24skidoo, I knew & said something changed in wiki! But all the admins/editors just called me wrong, kept changing my page, & a whole bunch of other bull. I was told it was bc I didnt close my colour with </font> but I've never closed with </font> & the posts after mine werent green. Pls look at my archive bc it too turned green.
What do u think caused the change?

- I'm not sure if anything was changed or not. Your test message to me worked fine, without messing anything up in my headers or anything, so maybe it was just a glitch. I never saw the question you posted because it got buried by other messages left on my talk page - no I haven't seen Carrey's film yet, but I plan to eventually since it ties in with some of the writings of William S. Burroughs and Robert Anton Wilson, from whom i was inspired to use the 23skidoo nick. 23skidoo 03:01, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
O ok. What kind of glitch?
Did u look @ my archive bc it too turned green. What do u think caused it 2 all tuen green? _Lilkunta 03:14, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's what happened to my talk page, too before I removed the color and it fixed itself. As to why it's happening I really have no idea. The only suggestion I can make is perhaps leave a question at Wikipedia:Editor assistance and see if any technical-minded folks can either help you or refer you. If this is happening to other pages where you leave messages I recommend not using the color font until a solution can be worked out, save perhaps on pages such as this where it doesn't appear to be causing a problem. 23skidoo 14:13, 9 April 2007 (UTC)
Hello I added a note to the above article about improving my leads...Am I doing better? I have added a lot of content to Geography of Saskatchewan and Agriculture in Canada and the latter is trying to be nominated into becoming a GA which is kind of exciting... but the reviewer also says...same as you...to get my WP:LEAD paragraphs working...so I did practice on the aformentioned 2 or 3 neighborhoods as above in talk and on these two other articles...and showed my thinking on each article's talk pages...What do you think? You seem to have a lot more experience at this Wikipedia thing. Thank you for you help again.SriMesh|talk Julia 03:17, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

La Femme Nikita page move
[edit]Hi, 23... I left this message on the Nikita (TV series) discussion page, but I thought I'd raise the point here in case you're swamped with other things. I nominate that the page be moved back to La Femme Nikita (TV series) for several reasons:
- While the series was produced in Canada, it was a Canadian co-production funded primarily by Warner Bros., which is an American company. Both The X-Files was, and the new Battlestar Galactica is, filmed in Canada, but we consider them American television series since they were and are funded by American companies (20th Century Fox and Universal Studios, respectively).
- The series was aired first in the United States, not in Canada. According to IMDB [1], La Femme Nikita debuted in January of 1997 on USA Network, then debuted in Canada on CTV three months later. I personally remember the Canadian delay being a part of online discussions at that time, too.
- The series is known by its fans as "LFN", short for La Femme Nikita.
- The only DVDs available worldwide carry the name La Femme Nikita.
Thanks for your consideration. :-) --TARDIS 21:07, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Actor filmography templates for deletion
[edit]Hi, the issue has come up again and a more general decision in WP Films is about to be taken. Here is a link to the TfD: Wikipedia:Templates for deletion/Log/2007 April 11#Template:Matthew McConaughey and the general discussion will follow in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Films/List and navigation management. Someone noticed a "no delete" comment of yours in Template talk: Audrey Hepburn, which although has not been nominated, still falls under the restricion we are about to decide on. I commented on the template talk page as well. Hoverfish Talk 06:53, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

Your reversion
[edit]It was not "dead easy" as I could not find it. It is incorrect to revert on those conditions. I will think what I shall do about this. --Mattisse 19:20, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- Reverting is a behavior to be utilised only under extreme circumstances where vandalism is assured. You are a rude editor as a good editor does not appropriate the references of others without consultation with that editor first. But I cannot make you into a civil person. All I can do is hope I don't run into you again. And I will try not to start articles that will appeal to you. This has never happened to me before and I have over 18,000 mainspace edits and have started many hundred articles. --Mattisse 19:35, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
Wikiproject
[edit]Yeah, we talked about starting one a while back, but there was just too much work involved with starting one and you and I were practically the only consistently dedicated editors at the time. It's good, hopefully just to bring some order to it all. I threw in my 2 cents about the unofficial thing. I also vented a little about the state of images on Bond film articles. I don't watch those articles all that much, I've been staying to the literary side of things in my limited role here, but when I do see them, I just groan at how terrible looking the articles have become because of the overabundance of images, the quality of them, the ridiculousness of some - it's painful to look at. [edit]Thank you for coming up with a better subsection heading on the James Bond (films) section by replacing Film Mentionings with Film Title References. When I created the section, I couldn't think of a better name than Film Mentionings. Emperor001 22:21, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
